Get yourself an old Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal distortion pedal. Turn all the knobs all the way up. Go thru the clean channel of your amp, or the distortion channel with just a tiny bit of gain.

Eh, there are actually some other ways to get the "Swedish Chainsaw" other than that "one pedal", lol. I will actually be doing a video before to long showing some alternative but still very effective methods for getting that sound.

@creepsomber This, though the exact settings will depend on amp, well the gain at least. On my amp on the clean especially, the HM-2s gain is quite fuzzy, but for some reason using the amp's gain channel not only brings out the actual tone of the pedal, it makes it sound almost like dismember/entombed/bloodbath/w­hichever Swedish band's sound

With an HM-2 though, you have to be sure its what you want cause well, its the least versatile thing ever, this and only this is what it sounds like.

It Isn't called Swedish death metal pedal, there's no such thing. On the other hand, the pedal is very hard to get your hands on. So i'm not going to mention which pedal it actually it is, and it sounds bestw ith a Gibson or a GOOD BC Rich, as most of Gibson and BC Rich are lousy crap quallity guitars nowadays

Actually...

Dismember caught a lot of shit from the Entombed guys for trying to "one-up" them in their guitar tone, haha. The HM-2 alone is how Entombed got their tone, along with a lot of other Swedish DM bands. Dismember however, went a little further. They took the HM-2 and maxed out all of the knobs EXCEPT the distortion knob. They then ran the pedal into either a Marshall or a Peavey 5150. You'll notice that Dismember's tone is a lot crazier than Entombed's. This is why, haha.

I have to say that is wrong about the pedal. I bought one and cranked it up on just pedal with the amp clean and truly it sounded like total shit! If the pedal works at all it is because of the amps distortion, not the pedals. Entombed supposedly used a peavy bandit to record with. I don't know how accurate that is but I would say the key is to not use the pedal's distortion it clips really bad when turned up. I never thought about using the amps distortion so I took the pedal back....fuck me.

Anyway Entombed recorded Left Hand Path with HM-2 and Marshall 5150 (a shitty economic combo). They could not use a Peavy 5150 because it was released in 1991 and Left Hand Path was released in 1990.

Afterwards they used a JCM900.
