I have a couple of questions. 1 do you need permits or license for this? 2 can you put a tutorial on how you made your home-built one? 3 were did you get parts for a project like this?
@lamborghinina 1 In the UK you can fly legally (but inadvisable) without any 'licence', most people learn to fly a hangglider from a hill or winch, then do a power conversion course when competent. 2 The homebuilt unit was adapted and improvised as I went along, the important bit is getting the balance right, that unit didn't handle well as there was too much weight at the rear. 3 At the time I worked as an aircraft structural technician so had access to material suppliers (and eBay!). Pete
hell i was scared walking up the rock let alone fly over it. that was awsome fella. if ya ever fly over toxteth dont worry about the RAF, its the well ard pigeons ya need to be lookin out for. well in mate
Really enjoyed watching your video here mate, I quite often visit North Wales (Not by air though :) ) I was just wondering... As there are lots of RAF training flights over North Wales do the pilots have any way of seeing you? (radar etc) It's just that you seem awfuly vulnerable when your as high up as you are here?
Hello John, sorry for the late reply. Snowdonia is an area of intense aerial activity. The Hawk aircraft don't have radar, hopefully they fly 'heads up' alot. LLanberis Valley isn't used by fast jets, it's a helicopter training area. If I hear a jet but can't see it, it can be disconcerting. Pete
There is alot of military air traffic around this area, Llanberis Valley is a helicopter low flying area. I've just gotta trust in the - "See and be seen" and "Big sky principle" :-)
My question is, did you design at yourself the construction with engine behind you? I´m hang glider pilot since long time( 18 years), have a good hang glider for this purposes (aeros discous). So I ´m very intereted in how did you make the construction with engine ?
Thanx for uploading such a great video... I live near laanberis, havent flown over my own countryside ofr years, loved the soundtrack too.
I need to learn an affordable form of flying like this. I was an air cadet for 7 years, i have flown gliders, and powered aircraft, but Id love to paraglide or hang glide.
Yeah, well in my country there is must to learn to fly with the normal hang glider and then with the powered hang glider. Here you can't learn to fly by yourself (like from the hill), you need a teacher to teach you. So, if I want to have permission to fly in the air, I need to go to "a gliding school", it costs like 1000€.
Here aren't so high hills, so we are using the winch or a vehicle to getting the glider in the air.. Yeah, I must to learn to fly first. :P
Most people recommend learning to fly a hangglider first, then adding power, that is the way I learnt. You can learn to fly by launching from a hill or being towed up by a winch. Pete
It is slightly harder to fly than a standard hang glider, the handling is degraded withthe addition of thrust and weight. I don't know what 'worth of it' means? A new power unit is about £3000 (British Pounds), used units can be bought from £500 upwards. Pete
£500 Shouldn't be so expensive for a powered hang glider. I mean with the "worth of it" that is it like better than normal hang glider, that should I pay the few thousand pounds more for the wasp engine. I hope that you caught what I mean.. So, is the wasp engine worth of it in the glider?
If I'd buy one, I'd buy used one, because I'm not the richest person.
I have been thinking to start this hobby in 2 years. Looks like awesome to fly. :)
Where about are you at the start of the journey? it looks rather like Llanrug with all them yello and green fields and the farmhouses surrounding them.
I started from a field between Llanrug and Bethel, I fly North after takeoff, then soon turn East and over my house at Cae Metta. Glad you liked the video. I was in the Glyntwrog on saturday 12th July getting slowly drunk on IPA and Hobgoblin! Pete
Good hang glider as well and it has been a reasonably good hobby for snowdonia recently. I also like brown ale or whatever ale too mate. There are lots of these gliders swarming all over Llanrug quite often as well
Hi im from Llanrug and i go to Glyntwrog pub quite often which is just down the road from where i live, and i speak Welsh. Cymru iechyd da!! Good video you sent there mate. Da iawn flyingLEEK!! cenin...
Not many days of calm wind, have done same trip many times in a microlight still amazed with the views and crib goch, dam good video, we must have a drink at the Glyntwrog one night
I fly from a field between Bethel and Llanrug, it's 400yds from my house. A complete setup of glider and power unit will cost £5K new or from £1K used. Thanks for the compliment :-)
Ta for that. Appreciate it. One other query: Do you have to be aware of any RAF activity and other flights in the vicinity and where would you get the information? I worked at the top of Snowdon ten years ago and it was only then I realised how bad air traffic is around there. Do you fly anywhere else? Connemara in Galway is awesome; for scale and absolutely empty skies.
Luckily there is very little controlled airspace that I cannot fly in, elsewhere it works on the 'See and Be Seen' and 'Big Sky' principles. Midweek flying is most congested but The Big Yellow Chopper could be in Snowdonia training or on a job almost anytime of day and night. I also fly near Abergele with the engine. Thanks for the interest, Pete, Cae Metta, Llanrug.
Wow :) I did't know that you can put motor to hang-glider. I was going to paragliding course next summer, but now i have to think again (paragliding or hang-gliding). This must be one of the greatest hobby in the world.
This video is GREAT! Have to watch all your videos :D
THANKS FOR THESE VIDEOS..!! and sorry my english :D
I need to have a glider shipped to Hawaii, but I"m worried that the poles will be bent, I've read some horror stories about new gliders arriving damaged, taking weeks for a new replacement!!! And I can't really afford to fly to a manufacturer or a dealer D:
It's a Wills Wing Eagle size 164 square feet. Great handling with power- see my 'Low Level Powered Hang Gliding' Video for a demo. Good luck getting a glider shipped, will insurance cover any damage caused? Pete
nice it seems like a blend of novice/advance wing. Also, you mossie is nice but I still think your homemade doodlebug configured harness is alot better! I prefer supine since I have a bad neck and back. If you don't mind, do you have like a Gallery with some close-up photos of your homebuilt harness? I think I'll try to make one, I'd like to put a vitorazzi powerplant one it though. hehe more power the better I believe.
does Swedish Aerosport Mosquito sell harnesses only the structure and the engine...without textile harness ?...sorry for my english...can you give me more informations on your harness (pictures)...thank you
This one is a Swedish Aerosport Mosquito with my own harness fitted. My other unit, the homebuilt one, uses a ROS125 paramotor engine in a 32mm alloy tube frame of my own design. Control cables and levers are bicycle spares, wheels are from a microscooter, support cables were made for me by a boat rigging yard. Send me a message with your email and I'll send a link to some online pictures. Thanks for the interest, Pete
Something I hope to be participating in quite soon. Has been a dream of mine as long as I can possibly remember to fly on my own in some way shape or form. Great video mate.
next? come to rio teh janeiro with your toy mate, you can rock around my house i fly here and everyone would just go nuts to see you take off from the beach of copacabana give me details on this thing where did you buy it? did you build it? would love to know more
Rio... hmmm... sounds expensive to get all my gear there. It would be an amazing place to fly though, I have seen a few videos and pictures of gliders flying from near Christ's statue.
Spectacular, that must be an amazing feeling. We have to walk it or use the train, and you just fly straight up there right from your back yard. Thats cool man. Love the last track the Barbers adaggio for strings. Very patriotic name also The Flying Leek.

So awesome hobby. :P
