  • This man has the insight of Jesus when he portrays this character, he does it with such sadness but with great compassion in his heart.

God bless people like Rodney and Bruce Springsteen singing for the man on the street.

The ghost of Tom Joad is not unlike this sentiment.

Beautiful song and wonderful writing skill.

  • @ timeangel8: that's Will Kimbrough accompanying him.

  • This song and its' counterpart song "Wandering Boy" were my introduction to Rodney. I caught this concert on a local PBS channel on the tele where I live this past summer. I was completely awed by the deep meaning behind his words of these two songs which led to tears by the end. The instrumentals of both pieces are pure musical poetry. Does anyone have the complete footage of these two pieces including the story he tells before he starts to play and does anyone know who his accompanist is? Ty.

  • Saw him in Minneapolis, can't wait for him to come back!

  • Proud to claim him as a real Texan.

  • From what I understand this is based on someone he knew who ended up selling himself on the street just to survive. Pretty brave subject for a country song.

  • Rodney did this amazing album after taking five years off to raise his daughters. I saw him perform most of these songs on a taping of E-Town in 2001.Check out “I know love is all I need” An amazing song about our mortality.

  • carlabNYC you said it all 1 year ago. Thank you

  • great tune...and a fine performance...

  • Great song!

  • Haha..10.500 people watched this, and only 38 felt any reason to judge it....that's pretty awesome! (No offense meant to 37 of the 38)

  • I wept buckets the first time I heard this song...you are special RC

    thanks for sharing mkgappraisal

  • Thanks for posting these videos. Just beautiful. We're seeing him in March in Toronto - can't wait!

  • Rodney, I love and have always loved your music, your style, the feeling and heart when you sing...it's like it's just for me. Smile...don't I wish.

  • Thanks for sharing. It was a great show.

  • @mrcountrymusiclover1, You know, I think he's doing just fine and is probably a lot happier without high-profile commercial success insanity. He's well known and highly respected among his fellow-musicians. I love all his work; as you say, the most recent is so strong.

  • Rodney Crowell is one of the finest singer/songwriters around. This song is so humane and compassionate, sung simply; it needs nothing else.

  • @carlabNYC i agree totally, the most underrated singer-songwriter in nashville. He deserves more commercial success, But if people keep cutting his songs, I'd say it's a job well done. Love, Fate's right hand, The outsider and Houston kid, brilliant, brilliant albums.

  • One of the best American songwriters. Ever.

  • Beautiful lyrics.

  • a wonderful underrated singer songwriter ,i had the great good fortune to see him in England he is so good.

  • Will and Rodney... come back to Australia we loved having you

  • GENIUS!!!

  • Great stuff,cheers!

  • If this song doesent make you cry nothing will. Cheers for sharing
