  • 27.555 USB... LOL

  • Oh, how I miss the Cobra 148 GTL-DX I had x2 snakes between 1980 and 86 when I went 10-7.

The furthest I got was Falkland Island on the upper triple high 28Mhz homebase and somewhere in Indonesia, mobile on 12watts but only lasted for a short while before all the skip went dead. Me and my dad quickly drove home but the by the time I got the rig out and into the homebase slidemount all was over. I think that was 82. Falkland was around 83.

  • I had the 2nd highest GPA ½ wave 17footer in the area at near 80 feet, the guy who across the road who owned a TV shop and sold CB radios had the highest GPA ½ in the area. My friend tried to compete by strapping a 20 or 30 foot aluminium tube that we librated from a road works LOL onto his chimney! LOL It got blown down in the winter storm of 83 LOL and was hanging at 45º over the main road!

  • I later changed my ½ to three element beam and ¼ wave that was mounted above the beam. The ¼ wave was good for around the area but not good for long distance, that’s ware the beam comes in with 200watts and preformed great.

  • I later sold the beam or swapped it for high gain CLR2 that the owner fitted onto the mounting bracket. He should have removed the rotator! In the storm of 83 my high gain came undone only at the mounting bracket of the rotator and was hanging buy the coaxial cable and aiming into the main road below!

  • So me and my friend both had bad luck! LOL I think a few others in the area also had bad run in with the storm gales LOL.

but nothing as dangerous as me and my friend if those ants came undone they could have caused an accident! Sure glad to get that CLR2 off the roof. damn thing was at least 20 feet I think?

  • Arrrh the good old Cobra 148 gtl dx had mine hooked up to a sigma 4 (High in the air), Ham master 4200 & Bremi 210's (black 1s) . Also worked the 3 element Yagi beam.. The good old days. Nice 1 on your Cobra

  • I had this rig back in the 80's it was cool, it had Sideband and of course the secret black window channel, it cost me £200 back in 1982, well made and last for years, SWR was alwaya 1to 1

  • LOL. SWR has absolutley nothing to do with the radio!!

  • I had the same model Pyramid SWR Meter 20 some years ago.
