It's interesting, Patooch, how we could omit a few words in a scripture to accommodate, or try to validate what we believe. The word speaks for itself. Acts 19:6 - "And when Paul had laid hands on them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. One cannot have the gift of prophesy unless they are first baptized with the Holy Ghost. It says that they spoke first in tongues and secondly the prophesied. Read it carefully. I'm not into demoniations or religion. I'm in the body of Chirst.
@ThePatooch According the Bible speaking in tongues as it relates to the gift is a sign to unbelievers. It's a sign to them that believe not; however, when a person receives the new birth, or is born again, speaking in other tongues just signifies that the person who is speaking received life. Just as a baby is born into the world, when it cries that signifies life, and when a newborn person in Christ speaks in other tongues, as the Spirit of God gives the utterance, that signifies life.
@ThePatooch Well, Patooch, when a person receives that baptism of the Holy Ghost and speaks in other tongues, it's not the gift of tongues, however. The gift of tongues, or diverse kinds of tongues as it is named in I Corinthians is a gift in which God, if He so chooses, will enable that person to speak in a foreign language in order to convey a message to a person whom God might be trying to reach. Sometimes there is an interpreter.
@ThePatooch I have no idea where you got that interpretation from - "they began to speak in a strange tongue, or altered tongue." God does not speak in unintelligible language. Sometimes you have to be careful about what sources you use to interpret the Bible.
@ThePatooch Read your bible carefully. There is a gift called diverse kinds of tongues (First Corinthians 12:10), which is actually the gift of tongues. I don't disagree with that notion that the gifts are for the common good of the body of Christ. You're way off base, as your mixing up scriptures. The "stammering lips" is in the Old Testament, which is really in reference to the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. That was a prophetic statement which was speaking of the future. It happened already.

I guess some of or most of the responders here did not listen to the teachings of this man, speaking in tongues is a load of hooey. I always thought that and he has confirmed it here. Stop fooling yourselves and believing this crap.
@totallygonegearhead LOL Satan has confirmed what you always wanted to believe and that is that "tongues is a load of hooey." You're a so called Christian in name only, but not by experience. Everyone who received the Holy Spirit during the early church, spoke in other tongues, or languages as the Spirit of God gave the utterance (the ability to speak). You grossly lack understanding. You and John McArthur.
I wholeheartedly know that speaking in other tongues, AS THE SPIRIT OF GOD GIVES THE UTTERANCE, is the true evidence of the indwelling of the Spiritl. However, there are people who are also taught by others how to speak. There are people who fabricate tongues themselves and deceive others. Then there are tongues of the devil who counterfeit tongues. Remember God is not mocked. He will eventually show who is of Him and who is not. Believe that!
@DSkeptic86 I do not agree with you. The true evidence of the indwelling of the holy spirit will be a Godly life that bears good friut and manifests the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Not speaking in gibberish and I have yet to see anyone speak in foreign language that they did not know before. I have seen alot of people speaking gibberish to each other though which makes no sense consdering they speak the same language anyway. Macarthur does a good job exposing the fraud in this though.
@sgentlemanjack112 You guys are CINOs (Christian In Name Only) without ever having received the baptism of the Holy Ghost which is essential. In Acts 2:4 and READ IT CAREFULLY it says "And they were all FILLED with the HOLY GHOST and began to SPEAK in other TONGUES, as the SPIRIT gave the utterance. When the Holy Ghost enters into an individual, He will speak out of that individual. As Jesus said, "He that believes in Me out of their belly shall flow rivers of living water. And this spake He
@ThePatooch There is not just one verse that supports what I said. There are many verses in the Book of Acts that validates the experience. You don't think it's essential because you've been taught that it's not essential. Did you ask Jesus for His opinion? Sorry, but the Ethiopian eunuch was not baptized in a "puddle" as you suppose. He was baptized in a river. It's was a traditional practice during the early church to baptize in the river Acts 8:38.
@ ThePatooch What's most sad about this so called theologian John Macarthur is that he has the never to call speaking in other tongues "jibberish or unintelligible speech". What nerves. Does God indeed speak unintelligibly when in fact He gives the utterrance, if indeed the person speaks under the inpiration of the Holy Spirit? John Macarthur, u indeed lack understanding. You are partially correct in that every person who speaks in tongues may not be speaking by the unction of the Holy Spirit
@ThePatooch The truth is that receiving the Holy Ghost is both an objective experience (Acts 2:5 - 8), which means when a person receives the H.S. the evidence can be heard. And, it is also a subjective experience in that the person who genuinely receives Him will know that a change had taken place within. Keep in mind as u read that the gift is the Holy Ghost and not the gift of tongues: Acts 2:1 - 4; Acts 10:44 - 48; Acts 11:15 - 18; Acts 19: 1 -7 and Acts 8:14 - 19 (It can be inferred).
@ThePatooch You're right Patooch, the baptism of the Holy Ghost is essential to all to be saved. Saved meaning saved from God's wrath which is to come upon the earth. If a man has not been baptized with the Holy Ghost, he/she is not even a Christian (Romans 8: 9 - 11). Patooch, I try not to focus on the tongue aspect, but we can't throw the baby out with the bath water. There must be evidence upon receiving the H.S. and tongues is only the being, the most fundamental knowledge of God..
@ThePatooch The "must" as it relates to speaking in tongues as being the evidence is an objective truth. It conforms to reality. The scriptures that I provided clearly shows that those who received the baptism of the Holy Ghost infallibly spoke in tongues. True when u say "by their fruits you should know them." But, one cannot produce genuine fruit aside from the regeneration that is being filled with the Spirit. The filling comes first and the fruits are a by product.
@ThePatooch Listen Patooch, I feel you man. I know that it's hard to accept the tongues as being the initial evidence. I've been there. Done that until the Lord opened the Scriptures to me and then filled me with the Holy Ghost on June 16, 1986. This thing is real man. Kid you not. The "bath water seems foul" as the leper thoght when the prophet Elisha told Naaman, the leper, to dip himself in the Jordan seven times. My conviction is tongues is a subsequent experience to the H.S.
@ThePatooch I know it's hard to accept as it was for me when I first heard it. Sounded foreign. It's very humbling to accept this truth, and again I say truth. You sund in tongues? Were they man made tongues, or were the tongues the result of the new birth? Patooch, u keep equating the experience on the Day of Pentecost with being the "gift" of tongues. The Holy Ghost was the gift (read it carefully) and tongues were the evidence that the 120 received the GIFT of the Holy Ghost.
@ThePatooch If that's you talking in tongues on this video, like you said, you can make up tongues. I don't like to condemn b/c I'm in no position to do so, but I can make a judgment. The tongues that you're speaking on this video are from your intellect. God's not giving you the utterance (And may these words meet me in judgment if I'm lying). I pointed out the difference between the gift of tongues and the evidence of tongues that accompany the New Birth.
@ThePatooch Moreover, if you were indeed baptized with the Holy Ghost, that baptism is for the common good of the individual. The gift of tongues is for the common good of others. Big difference. You don't seem to understand that everyone who receives the baptism of the Holy Ghost (not the gift of tongues as you suppose) automatically speak in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives the ability or utterance. I speak to the truth and may these words judge me.
@ThePatooch True, Patooch. I wholeheartedly agree with your statement. As I mentioned before in the Scritpures that "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." However, I find it hard to believe how anyone could deny, after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, that spekaing in other tongues is the initial evidence that one received the Christ's regeneration through His Spirit. It just doesn't add up. Tha't like denying Christ believe it or not.
@ThePatooch Where you in error is that you're using confusing the letter to the church of Corinthians with experience in the Book of Acts. The gift of tongues is bestowed upon people (if God gives them that gitf) after they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Patooch what you need is a paradigmn shift in your way of thinking. It's quite obvious that you're not open to new ideas as they relate to the Word. Think outside of the box and open your heart. There is only one Baptsim (experience).
@ThePatooch As pointed out in Eph 4:5, there is one Baptism (of the Holy Ghost). There are not two experiences. All other gifts are subsequent to receiving the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tonuges. You're confusing the gift of tongues with the initial outpouring of the Spirit. To answer your question as to why "some spoke in tongues (the gift) and some prophesied (interpreted)" The gift of tongues and prophesy were gifts prevelant in the early church.
@ThePatooch When Paul asked the question "Do all speak with tongues?" he was talking about the gift of tongues, which every believer does not possess. I speak in other tongues, but I don't have the gift of tongues which is the same as the gift of diverse kinds of tongues. Two different concepts. Alot of people make that error in linking the gift of tongues with the experience in Acts as though they're one and the same. Big mistake.
@ThePatooch As I mentioned previously, Patooch, that when a person receives the baptism of the Holy Ghost, he or she automatically speaks in other tongues. That is the token, or sign of the new birth. It's on the initial (or first) evidence that someone has been born again. After that we are to grow and go on to perfection (maturity). We are not given faith to believe. Faith should precede the new birth. Faith is the substance of things hoped for . . . . Patooch u were taught incorrectly.
@ThePatooch Patooch, read that chapter carefully and you will see that that scripture is in reference to the gift of tongues. Remember Paul started the epistle with "Follow after charity and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy". People were abusing the gift of speaking in diverse kinds of tongues as of today. lol. In a nut shell all Paul was saying is that all gifts regardless of what they are should be operatred in love. But, you cannot have the gift of tongues (cont)
@ThePatooch If I'm wrong the Bible is wrong because the Word of God supports what I said. Anytime a person receives something there is evidence as if I handed you a pen or a book. The evidence is that you have it. It's tangible. Receiving the Holy Spirit is both objective and subjective. Objective because one could audibly hear a person speak in other tongues. Subjective because the person who receives the Holy Spirlt knows that a change has taken place within.
@ThePatooch I am not in error. You are. That's what you have been taught and it's wrong. Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is an experience, which produces a relationlship with God. Patooch, you have no relationship if you hadn't been baptized with the Holy Ghost. You just have religion. That's all. It's real regardless of how the skeptics like yourself try to deny that speaking in tongues is real.
@ThePatooch You are in error. You have been indoctrinated in error. There is much evidence in the book of Acts to support that those who received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost spoke in "intelligible" tongues, or a language. It is quite obvious that John McArthur lacks the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and I will respectfully take him up on this issue.
u should learn first before u speak. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. Acts 2:4, 10:46, 19:6. They all spoke in tongues. YOU ARE A LIAR WHEN U SAY THEY ARE NOT SPEAKING TO ANYBODY. READ 1Corinthians 14:2 WE speak unto God. Just because people can't receive it, they put it down. But u will pay on judgment day for what u put down. The Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans all receive it the same way, even us today. Is God wrong. Why is he still giving it today?
@ThePatooch U are right! The gift of tongues is not for everyone, But the Holy Ghost that comes with tongues is for everyone. Acts 2:39, 5:31-32. When u buy a pair of shoes, u don't pay extra for the tongues, they come with the shoes. Just like the Holy Ghost, it comes with tongues. Not the gift of tongues in Corinthians. The Holy Ghost is not tongues. It's the spirit of Christ. Tongues is the initial evidence. Have u received it yet?
@ThePatooch I don't mean no harm, but what are u talking about? Gentiles, Acts 10;44. Acts 2:38, Acts 19:6. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. Now u can believe against it if u want to, but i received it n it's beautiful. Everybody can receive the Holy Ghost n it comes with tongues whether u believe it or not. Millions have already received it the same way, n still receiving it. I can't understand why people doubt so much, but say they love the Lord it's real
Don't get the book of Acts mixed up with the book of Corinthians. One shows how to be saved and the other tells u how to behave in the church. Paul wrote to the church, not the world. Read the beginning of the book. Paul said to forbid not to speak. U can believe what u want. I received that same power of the Holy Ghost they received. The Holy Ghost is not tongues, tongues is the initial signed that one has received it. READ. U going by a book that was written to people that already receive it.
@ThePatooch If u can't see that at least three times in Acts, when one received the Holy Ghost, they spoke with tongues, then something is wrong with u. The Jews, Gentiles n Samaritans all received it the same way. Don't get the book of Corinthians mixed up with Acts. The book of Corinthians is talking about the gifts of the spirit. Acts is talking about the initial sign when one has received the Holy Ghost. Paul was talking to people who already spoke in tongues. Obey Acts 2:38, God's plan.
The guy at 4:00 looks like the starwars kid. Sorry to make a joke but the people in these videos are really starting to freak me out. Something not right is going on in those places. It is not from God.
what I refer to is right from the Word of God not Macarthur. the greek word for tongue is GLOSSA meaning Language from a nation or people. this is why paul said that tongues are a sign to the un believer. very simple. modern pentecostal/charismatic so called teaching spins everything arround to justify their experiance.
HA JOHN " IT TOOK YOU 22 VIDEOS TO TRY TO BRAINWASH YOURSELF AND THOSE WHO DO NOT READ THE WORD FOR YOU TO TELL THEM THROW TONGUES OUT UNLESS YOU MEAN SPEAKING IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE OTHERWISE DO NOT DO WHAT PAUL SAYS SAID AND PRAY IN TONGUES ALONE BECAUSE IT IS UNFRUITFUL:DO NOT CHANGE WHAT THE WORD SAITH: IT IS GOD AND NOT god : gods language is gibberish to men like you for real: paul does not ever use perverted with the gift of tongues: you liar:edifing yourself is most important :paul did too
@frenchis19 IF TONGUES EDIFY THE SPEAKER BUT THE SPEAKER DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE IS SAYING " isnt that praying alone? : WE ARE READING THE SAME BOOK BUT YOU Are without the holy ghost! REALLY THAT SIMPLE! PAUL SPEAKING" i pray in tongues more then all of you !1corinth 14:18!!! verse 14 tells us we pray in tongues alone and our understanding is unfruitful!!! verse 15 you couldn't explain with how you interpret the word: but with the spirit , it is easily understood! this is to you pooch
greater is he who prophisies more than he who speaks in a tongue, UNLESS HE INTERPRETS, so the one who speaks in a tongue should be able to explain what he is saying. remeber only other people dont know what he is saying, so then ask someone what he or she just said the next time they have this conversation with God in a heavenly language. the only answer they have is that it made them feel good. this is not the message that Paul gave. what we see now is only chaos and confusion.
dream on ! you could never get the message this john is selling when you read 1corinths 1 : you could never get this message from it at all: show me where he got such a devilish message how and where when you read this chapter? you could not even twist pauls words and get johns message: IMPOSSIBLE? HE HAS TO GO OUTSIDE THE BIBLE TO TRY TO SELL HIS LIE HIMSELF: HE HAS TO ACTUALLY CHANGE PAULS WORDS TO GET HIS MESSAGE ACROSS: HE IS ASS ILL AS TODD BENTLY WHO DECEIVES SO MANY TOO: HE IS A LIAR
This guy lies. 1Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (Unto God, Not "a" God)
(continuing with response to Kronomikon regarding the fact that all who are saved are not going to have all of the gifts) So my main point is tongues IS for all believers according to Jesus and we , as in everything with God, get to use our own free will to accept that truth and believe and act on it or not.
OMG JUST BECAUSE you have the mic dont mean you know what your talking about in anyway shape or form IT SEEMS to me this guy has never IN ANYWAY EVER HEARD ANYONE REALLY SPEAK IN TONGUES OR HOW ABOUT THIS ONE WHERE IN THE BIBLE AFTER JESUS WENT TO HEAVEN DID ANYONE GET THE HOLY GHOST WITH OUT TONGUES ????
Jesus said that those sent by Him will also be bitten by venomous snakes and not be harmed (as Paul did), heal the sick (as the Apostles) and cast out demons (as the Apostles), and being immune to poison, but if that's meant for all believers, then all believers would be healing the sick, throwing out demons, raising the dead, etc. but do all speak tongues? do all heal? do all prophesy?
well of course it is! I'm trying to say that not everyone who's saved is going to have all the gifts, that's all... :)
yeah, I do believe in what James said and work to apply it to my life, but you know what? the cleansing of the Holy Spirit makes it possible both inside and out, and I myself don't feel like a victim on the inside anymore, in that now the "inward man" is happy :)
As a sister in Jesus I am so happy that you are experiencing the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit and the joy of the new creation in Christ that we believers are.2 Cor 5:17
My point was that Mk 16:17, 18 is for ALL believers -- but not all believers choose to believe and act on those verses (and most would never need to use their faith about the deadly poison or even casting out demons or picking up serpents).
Yeah! I've never had the joy of doing any of those gifts... :( I have prayed that God would heal, and it's happened. I've prayed for this and that and He's answered, but I haven't spoken in other languages or been bitten by a poisonous snake and lived etc.
I've prayed time and again about them, but I have not received them as such.
People Pass out and Jonas brothers concerts and Obama speeches. It's hysteria. A lot of times it's Mentalism at these large televangelist ralleys. I don't understand how Christians can reconcile that ridiculous behavior with the repeated instruction to be sober minded
@JesusCTK If you do a study on Hindu meditation you will find that the exact same thing happens, it is part of my university studies. They start by dancing to drums and repeating a mantra that empties the mind of thought in order to open up to avatara, meaning descent or incarnation of a deity. They believe this practice allows contact with a deity as part of puja. At the peak of the experience they will babble and shake with no control as they have given themselves over, its not of God.
@JesusCTK I found this clip, it gives a good example of how the two practices manifest the same reaction. I believe regardless of the belief system both groups of petitioners are turning themselves over to the same power, the fallen sons of God. God tells us to love him with all heart soul and "mind". If we turn over our mind to empty nothingness we are not doing as God instructs. here is the clip, it is apparent to me they are the same thing.
@JesusCTK these people are wacky but speaking in tongues is real and it is for today and it is of God i use to be an interdependent fundamental baptist then i was filled with the Holy Ghost no i don't swing my arms everywhere and shake all over the ground no no no.......
but when i do pray in tongues most of the time i just kneel somewhere in the bed room and pray in tongues and yes sometimes i raise my hands and sometimes i just pace the bed room and pray in English and in tongues and if I'm at the table praying then I'll just bury my head in my arms and pray in tongues you see loads of people think it's scary and yes these people are in these clips have gone crazy but not everyone who speaks in tongues is like this that's all i really wanted to point out
@JesusCTK Beloved, most of pentacostals etc, 1: Go after this practice wilfully & consciencely because they want to experience something in do so in good faith but have been misled. 2:Others follow this practice because they were baited by the "experience" of being possessed by a spirit. Both are wrong and speaking in tongue as per the above clips is demonic and there is no call for it nor excuse for it.
what is wtih that preacher kneeing those ppl in the stomach? smh so stupid

DSkeptic86 9 months ago

Don't get the book of Acts mixed up with the book of Corinthians. One shows how to be saved and the other tells u how to behave in the church. Paul wrote to the church, not the world. Read the beginning of the book. Paul said to forbid not to speak. U can believe what u want. I received that same power of the Holy Ghost they received. The Holy Ghost is not tongues, tongues is the initial signed that one has received it. READ. U going by a book that was written to people that already receive it.

The Jews, Gentiles n Samaritans all received it the same way. Don't get the book of Corinthians mixed up with Acts. The book of Corinthians is talking about the gifts of the spirit. greater is he who prophisies more than he who speaks in a tongue, UNLESS HE INTERPRETS, so the one who speaks in a tongue should be able to explain what he is saying. remeber only other people dont know what he is saying, so then ask someone what he or she just said the next time they have this conversation with God in a heavenly language. the only answer they have is that it made them feel good. this is not the message that Paul gave. what we see now is only chaos and confusion.

(continuing with response to Kronomikon regarding the fact that all who are saved are not going to have all of the gifts) So my main point is tongues IS for all believers according to Jesus and we , as in everything with God, get to use our own free will to accept that truth and believe and act on it or not.

Jesus said that those sent by Him will also be bitten by venomous snakes and not be harmed (as Paul did), heal the sick (as the Apostles) and cast out demons (as the Apostles), and being immune to poison, but if that's meant for all believers, then all believers would be healing the sick, throwing out demons, raising the dead, etc. but do all speak tongues? do all heal? do all prophesy?
so to say all must speak tongues is ridiculous
krononomikon 2 years ago
Salvation is for everyone !!!
Is everyone saved? Why not?
Because they need to choose to believe the Word of God on salvation and then act upon that word (faith without action is dead James 1:22)
faithahora 2 years ago
well of course it is! I'm trying to say that not everyone who's saved is going to have all the gifts, that's all... :)
yeah, I do believe in what James said and work to apply it to my life, but you know what? the cleansing of the Holy Spirit makes it possible both inside and out, and I myself don't feel like a victim on the inside anymore, in that now the "inward man" is happy :)
krononomikon 2 years ago
but of course yeah we're going to have to use the knowledge and the grace we're given in order to give God what is God's and be a good steward :)
krononomikon 2 years ago
Hey, krononomikon,
As a sister in Jesus I am so happy that you are experiencing the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit and the joy of the new creation in Christ that we believers are.2 Cor 5:17
My point was that Mk 16:17, 18 is for ALL believers -- but not all believers choose to believe and act on those verses (and most would never need to use their faith about the deadly poison or even casting out demons or picking up serpents).
faithahora 2 years ago

Here4Yeshua 1 year ago
@JesusCTK I found this clip, it gives a good example of how the two practices manifest the same reaction. I believe regardless of the belief system both groups of petitioners are turning themselves over to the same power, the fallen sons of God. God tells us to love him with all heart soul and "mind". If we turn over our mind to empty nothingness we are not doing as God instructs. here is the clip, it is apparent to me they are the same thing.
