Why is there hubris in certainly knowing there is no god, but there's no hubris in saying there's no such thing as a monster living under your bed? Agnostics don't seem to understand that god is a psychological construct. One you would fully expect a human mind to invent. The idea that god is a 50/50 chance of being real is one that comes from being trapped in the human psychology. There may be god like entities in the universe, but there was no prime mover who was not made originally.

Ironically, even Hitchens himself would not have dared to write a story with such obvious irony for fear that it would seem pedestrian and too predictable for his enemies. the interviewer seems to hold the common misconception that atheism is a more hubristic, less humble alternative to agnosticism. atheists know at least as well as agnostics do that an unfalsifiable hypothesis can't be falsified. the difference is that atheists realize just how improbable such a hypothesis is when there is a complete dearth of evidence to support it.

@SlippPeace I think you have a false view of what evolution is. Evolution by natural selection is one of the most effective 'design' algorithms in nature. It isn't based on chance, but by this algorithm. Through reproduction (a new set of DNA) and random genetic mutations, evolution throws out the ineffective, useless genetics and applies the useful parts that help an organism survive. And for future reference, I would consider DNA to be a much more complicated system than the brain.

Why is there hubris in certainly knowing there is no god, but there's no hubris in saying there's no such thing as a monster living under your bed? Agnostics don't seem to understand that god is a psychological construct. One you would fully expect a human mind to invent. The idea that god is a 50/50 chance of being real is one that comes from being trapped in the human psychology. There may be god like entities in the universe, but there was no prime mover who was not made originally.

Ironically, even Hitchens himself would not have dared to write a story with such obvious irony for fear that it would seem pedestrian and too predictable for his enemies. There is still more, I suspect, that will unfold as to this melodramatic yet inevitable turn of fortune for this man, but it serves as a cautionary tale that should be heeded by the atheists, and even to me, as a believer, am left with a greater fear of God and reverence for His Holy Name.

If Hitchens did not deem it necessary to reiterate his political opinions, and personal views, then why would he dedicated his life to atheism? Christopher Hitchens did alright as a writer, and he did alright as a human being, apparently. I hope Hitchens lives another twenty-two years -- cause we'd undoubtedly be able to read new books written by him, on why god isn't so great. He may have chosen a capitalistic approach to success, but he did it with panache.

the interviewer seems to hold the common misconception that atheism is a more hubristic, less humble alternative to agnosticism. atheists know at least as well as agnostics do that an unfalsifiable hypothesis can't be falsified. the difference is that atheists realize just how improbable such a hypothesis is when there is a complete dearth of evidence to support it.

@SlippPeace I think you have a false view of what evolution is. Evolution by natural selection is one of the most effective 'design' algorithms in nature. It isn't based on chance, but by this algorithm. Through reproduction (a new set of DNA) and random genetic mutations, evolution throws out the ineffective, useless genetics and applies the useful parts that help an organism survive. And for future reference, I would consider DNA to be a much more complicated system than the brain.

Sugar is the driving force behind elevated levels of the so-called bad cholesterol, as well. Cancer's a disease of deficiency as is thirst & starvation. W/o water we die, no amount of praying can change that fact of course as the Lord provides, thru His bounty, those things we need to survive. Indeed, Scripture stresses the importance of consuming seeds: "Give us this day our daily bread," was written @ a time when bread contained whole, raw seeds--seeds abounding in cancer-killing Amygdalin.

Hitchens is a tower beacon of intellect. I am very, very,very upset about this. I just found out today and horrified at this news. Hitch is a genius and no matter what the outcome, he will and should be studied, listened to and read for decades to come and beyond.
