Pentax is where it's at. Canon is great also. But Nikon? This camera is shit. Just get an entry level DSLR and take a photography class. You won't regret it
@lxstoian read up on Steve huff's review on the J1. Surprisingly, according to Steve, the J1 beats the Nex 7 at ISO1600 in RAW. I'm surprised how much this small sensor can do.
Note that Jessops are ALREADY offering a package worth £300 off anyone buying the new V1 - kind of proves that Nikon now understand that they have got the price WRONG ! Good luck Nikon selling many after the 1st rush - your gonna need it !
December 24 at 8:00 in the morning a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Johnson was found dead.Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked hid emails to see if she could figure out what happened.Turns out he was still signed into myspace. She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter. if you don't repost this to six videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight.Sorry don't want to die"
I think this camera is just absolutely amazing! The fact that it can use all of Nikons lense.... Omg that's just insane. The only thing is it's a little pricy.
I like SOME elements of the tech but the TINY sensor and the PRICE (£900 in the UK) is far far too high. I spoke with Nikon about this at a recent Calumet event - they said that pre orders had already exceeded production - I think this might be true - cause its new and the Japanese buy all new products, I think they should worry about 2012 when the rush has gone, Canon have gone ASP-C (please!) and the bandwagon of Sony, Panasonic and Olympus continues to steal more and more market share
Fuck you Olympus, why can't you make a V1? Thy haven't you ALREADY made one? That's it Olympus, one more year and my next system is Nikons V1 if you can't get your head out of your ass and fucking give Olympus users what they want.
second body here i come...i'll have my D3s and then i'll have this little beauty with all my lovely nikkor lenses!!XD can't wait to try the thing out...
I have to agree - Im now waiting to see what Canon (my other brand) will do. I understand that Nikons share price has been falling for months as their share of sales in Japan has been hit HARD by the 4:3 rivals (both Nikon & Canon) The V1 & J1 strike me as an unfinished COOLPIX project, a STOP GAP at best. Such a shame that (with Sony's help) Nikon DSLR range has come of age - without Sony Nikon introduce this rubbish...shame on you Nikon!
Again I have to agree - these V1 & J1 are so disappointing, I was looking forward to buying a mirrorless camera in 2012 and as a Nikon fan I would prefer it to be a Nikon - now best on the block is SONY.
SORRY NIKON YOUR TRYING TO SELL 110 FORMAT IN A WORLD OF 35MM
You must be joking!! I own BOTH Nikon & Canon and was looking forward to something BIG from Nikon for 2012. It seems that without Sony's help Nikon are lost at sea. Without Sony's help Nikon would still be using the same crap sensors that are in the d200 which were USELESS for low light, which is what I switched to Canon and now use BOTH. I plan to buy a mirrorless camera during 2012, I am so disappointed that it won't be a Nikon.....
Its natural for people not to accept change quickly, working in the software industry, I can tell you how hard it is to convince. I'm afraid none of us has had the opportunity to test the v1 yet. So I guess its too premature to call it horrible. I call it proper engineering because I guess Nikon worked hard to make sensors more efficient than introducing a bigger sensor. With more than 90% of the pictures shared digitally one must feed the customer's priorities than his/ her ego.
Fair point - but as a Nikon owner I am disappointed that almost all of the rival brands are moving forward - all things considered a bigger sensor will ALWAYS perform better. Sony are wasting no time in going APSC within a NEX body. Nikon's top designer stated that Sony's new NEX weren't mass market (see DP Review) where has he been for the last 18 months? Does he feel that £900 for a V1 is mass market????
Being on the same boat as you are, I agree with you Sir, the price does not match the product. However I'm impressed with their approach to technology. please step back and remember what people thought of tablets when it was introduced, look around now, you'll find the same critiques considering it indispensable. When a manufacturer focuses on efficiency than glamour, I feel that they are dependable. What if a few things from V1 get transferred to the much awaited D3s replacement?
I think Nikon are very clever however IF this is the best they can do without Sony's help I think their heading for trouble. During the 1980's no one could believe that Canon with its AF would replace Nikon as THE pro brand. Its taken Nikon (with Sony's help) almost 30 years to catch up with Canon. I agree that their current range of DSLR's are excellent which is what the V1 & J1 are so disappointing. Sony are on Nikon's case and will not take prisoners! NEX cameras hold so much more promise.
@9190xxx Read it, can't see where you are coming from. Again, it is a camera aimed at soccer moms. What he said makes sense for that public. If you feel offended by his statement, I think you have unresolved issues.
The shot selector mode has got to be the biggest crock of shit that I have ever heard of. If you are so unintelligent that you can't select which photo THAT YOU TOOK you like the best, maybe you shouldn't be taking pictures; maybe you should be wearing a helmet. This camera is complete ass!
@belbro62 nex7 proved 24mp is way too much for an aps sensor, the photocites are too small and induce too much noise; the nex-5n has better image quality with only 16mp. Do the math, and you'll see 10mp in the v1 sensor area is closer to the nex-5n's pixel density than to the nex-7's, wich means better quality and less noise. sony will have to hold back the pixel cramminng race already, and nikon cant cram any more mp's in this sensor and spect to keep up the image quality. bad news.
'Today marks one of the most eagerly awaited debuts in recent photographic history. Nikon and Canon, the two standard bearers in professional photography, have up to this point kept themselves clear of the mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera craze that has swept up companies like Panasonic, Sony and Samsung, but no more.''

ugly mofo with tiny sensor, who needs this unprofessional C>R>A>P? boutique, but not for pics....
BigRooster747 3 months ago
its about as big than an olympus ep3
that has a much larger sensor(bokeh) and costs about the same.
why would you want the nikon v1?
and why is it looking so hideous ? (most nikons look good)
are those features like taking pictures on half pressed shutter really that important to people ?
But i guess they did their market research...

The V1 & J1 just don't make sense and are FAR too expensive.
Were back to the days of APS / 110/ 126 compared to 35mm
The manufactures tried to CON us then
Now Nikon seems to be trying to do it again
Expect these cameras to appear in life style magazines with high level product placement
Only a fool would buy these at almost £900 a pop
