  • Oreste Kirkop was an average tenor at best, very lightweight

  • Hi, That would be nice, mayb you'll discover that you've got a voice and sing like your uncle Oreste, Great man, he won't be forgotten..R.I.P. Oreste...

  • ahhh my great uncle oreste and his brother (my grandpapa') showed me how to play the piano and sing when I was 3 and now I wish I could continue there generations... that would be sooo cool :) R.I.P uncle Oreste!

  • Weak voice!

  • He would've gone to further places if it was'nt that, he retired at a young age of 38 in 1960 and never worked since then...

  • it is very unfortunate and difficult not to compare lanza and kirkop. they were around approximately at the same time and were tenors. although lanza is the best of them all until now, i must say kirkop comes second and way ahead of the likes of pavarotti, domingo etc. for whatever it is worth.

  • I know this dude's nephew, Peter Cutajar.

  • @JainasMyBITCH that my cousin ^^

  • I am so proud with all Maltese that made a name worldwide. Obviously Oreste Kirkop is one of them.

  • Its Great to see a Motion picture Maltese Star that made from such a small island..

  • @maltazep Why are you proud, you obviously had no hand in making the film...

  • Hola viccharm;

¿Tienes la película "The Vagabond King" que quieras compartirla con nosotros, para verla completa?

Desde luego hay pasarla en varias partes, para que pase.

Gracias por la atención que le prestas a la presente petición..

  • Thanks...

  • Perfect!!! Thank that share! Vili

  • Oreste Kirkop a Maltese tenor from Malta ,wish I can find the mp3 of this song

  • Yes his voice was of a light tenor, but very pleasant and technically very good.

  • Thanks for your comments, I've been told that he sounds much better on his later recordings...

  • Nice technique. It was a light voice and lacked Lanza's passion but really enjoyable to listen to.

  • well, to oreste's defense hehe, he is a light tenor whereas lanza isn't really, so even sound wise, not interpetation wise, lanza would automatically sound more dramatic and passionate. But Oreste made this song portraying a delicate and soft love of sorts, don't know if im making myself understood lol

  • I liked this movie and Oreste's singing and was always wondering where he came from: was he Spanish or Italian perhaps? Then I learned he was from Malta, fantastic.

I remember he had superb high notes, better than Lanza's, though of course, Lanza had a richer voice.

    Hollywood then was just magical!

  • You've hit the nail dead on...

  • hehe x cc hu joseph caleja, the original pride of malta. but we are so culturaly stupid in this country that no one gives him the fame he deserves!

  • If we want Malta to stand out in 3D on the worlds map, we need to push all our talented folks in this country..

  • hehe if only! RICHEST COUNTRY CULTURAL WISE and no one gives a crap. ehh.....

  • Agree all the wayyyy!!!

  • I agree with you perfectly. 10th May 2008 was the 10th anniversary of Oreste's death. Ten years is an important anniiversay. but nothing was done to commemomerate Oreste...nothing at all!!! And that is a real shame...

  • Nice. Kirkop had a nice voice, he was no Lanza but who was? :) Lanza would have done well with this film but this sounds good to me :)

    Thanks for posting

  • Thanks very much for you interest in Oreste, as you said its a pity that he had to retire so early in his career..I cannot think of anyone else that has taken Mario's or Oreste's place....

  • You have already posted that requested song clip from the film. Great! Many thanks to you. It is wonderful again to be able to hear that song performed by Oreste.

  • Thank you for your courteous and positive response.

Do you happen to have Oreste singing 'This same heart' which he sang also in this film? It is a lovely song and Oreste sang it very well indeed, with a particularly beautiful diminuendo. He was fine tenor who enjoyed a distinguished career in opera, and it is a great pity that a heart problem caused his early retirement. It is also a pity that both Paramount films of The vagabond King are not yet available on DVD.

  • Thanks for your viewing and comments ... amended to Paramount

  • It was a Paramount, not MGM, film, and Lanza was otherwise engaged at the time of its making.

Lanza already had been well taught, as his many fine recordings prove.

However, the song is nicely enough sung here, and that is what counts after all.
