The harmonics at 3:52.. i can never figure them out... great stuff man.
Also, barely any pinky is required when played Tool, unless you playing the aforementioned Vicarious or Stinkfist... I started off by just learning Tool but when I go to play mathcore like Dillinger or tech death metal or something, you just learn to use it... I'm sure, no I'm positive opiate can use his pinky finger to play non Tool songs just fine. Stupid ass.
@Whisp360 suck his cock more, haha. It's simple: it's ALWAYS good practice to use your pinky, nervmind giving the guy a free pass. I commented on that fact and met a whole world of butthurt - no skin of my nose, I'm a tighter, more well rounded player than he'll ever be *tips cap*
@Bodycage I just don't get why you are assuming that I never use the damn thing, and by that logic, assuming therefore that you are superior. I don't use it in this one song because I like the notes to be slides instead of pull offs, therefore I never use it ever? You don't see the missteps in logic there? THATS why you're getting shit for saying what you did. It didn't make any sense, and would've been pointless if it did.
Yeah man. That pinky on your right hand needs more use. Why don't you shove it up your pooper while you play Stinkfist? Show us how limitless your technique is.
You're an ass. Not one part of this song requires the use of a fucking pinky. But hey, if you think unnecessarily using your pinky makes you a much better player than I, by all means keep "shooting ants with shotguns".
You don't use your pinky finger on any of the other videos, either, so let's not confuse the issue. You must know that it's a very important attribute to becoming a much better player, you should definitely work on it. Being all defensive won't solve it.
Vicarious and H both require the use of a pinky, Vicarious especially, and on both I use my pinky when necessary. What YOU need to understand is that this isn't speed metal. I use the techniques required for the style, a much more important attribute to learn than just using your pinky for every other fuckin thing.
You barely ever use your pinky and it's not good technique, something which will hold you back when it comes to playing more complex stuff than tool covers. It's a bad habit you've got into and no amount of convincing yourself otherwise will change that. But hey, keep posting Tool vids for the fanboys to lap up.
Dude, seriously, think what you are bitching about. You are giving me shit for not using my pinky as much as YOU think is necessary. That is extremely fucking stupid. When I need it my pinky, it's there, and it hasn't failed me yet, so fucking cool your mentally retarded jets.
@moviescolin lol @ getting in the way. Funny thing is, you'll objectively be a worse player if you don't have full finger independence, but keep telling yourself that shit.
@Bodycage Choosing whether or not to use a finger to play a note will not make me a worse player. Telling another human being, however, that such a decision will make him/her a worse player, will objectively make you a worse human being.
Yeah I've had one for about a year now, I just wanted to know his opinion and how it compared to a LesPaul because when I was buying it that was my main concern -- I wanted the LP sound but didn't have the money for one
Its probably closer to the PRS/ESP Les Paul shaped guitars than the actual Gibson Les Paul since the bodies are slimmer and not as heavy. Each have different pickups too, so they are all pretty unique. All are good guitars though.
I like the new stuff but I think I liked ur older recording methods better, they sounded more natural, i think ur new vids sound too mixed with the actual track..just my opinion tho but good stuff man and i thought that silverburst looked diff haha
i'm just curious how are you able to get it so right all the time like what do you do just listen to tool and you just play or do you go through the song meticulously and tab it out or something and find out how to play from that.
Glad to see you back with a new silverburst, Opiate. Awesome job on this one. Flood is one of my favorites to play. The sound quality in this video is top notch.
Idk if you knew, but on 10,000 days, Joe baressi, the enigineer, used his Shure SM-57 and a Seinnheiser (sp) 421, as he says those are his 'deafult mics.' get a 421 :) get a kickass tone.
That was ill! Again, just like your Aenima video, I've been playing this one differently for years, but I think I like the way you play it better. There are some subtleties that I never noticed, which you picked up on.
I got it right over the cone. I'm micing my top left speaker on a slant cabinet, so the mic is a bit above and angled a bit downward so its right on it. It's also pretty much right on the grill cloth.
byyyyyyyyyyy the way, you weren't by chance playing with Lateralus at a bar called Tailgaters in Bolingbrook, IL last friday were you? Heard some buzz among my friends that there was a Tool cover band playing and I didn't get a chance to check it out. My gf was over that night and uhhh duty called. ;-)
No worries :) were playing again this Thursday at a place called Reggie's Rock House in Chicago. I think it's on the south side, but I'm not for positive. It probably wont sound as good though, fucking Tailgaters has got like $300,000 worth of sound and lights at that place.
psssh... so you got a vintage silverburst... whatever...
;-)
Niiiiiiice work. Really like the new recording method for these videos. Flood was the first Tool song I tried learning. Never really finished learning it though.... laziness.
should have done it this way since the beginning. what really needs to be done are some ace backing tracks. you don't see any good tool backing tracks anywhere.
Sweet tone bro!...the recording sounds amazing and I was wondering just recently if you had actually bought that old Silverburst you were talking about a while back. Congratulations on the new sound and guitar, they're both awesome! Oh...and did you end up keeping your newer LP Custom? and do you find the older one is better for Tool's tone? Just curious.
eww pick guard

What's with all the fucking pinky talk?! Bahahaha! Stop watching his pinky and listen to the TOOL cover! Sick cover, you rock. Sick tone as well.

And what the hell? Really? He has three other fingers that could reach a note perfectly fine. So what.

Kickass Silverburst, I wish I could get my hands on even an '03 reissue but alas no money. Great job though, keep it up!
PS: I'd like to know your opinion on the Ibanez Art 300, if you've sampled it anyway.

The ART300's pretty beast. Check out the reviews here on Youtube. I have one and through my amp I can get a pretty good Tool sound.
