I'm not quite sure how I found this song. I was born 25-30 years before it even came out. I will be using this song in my sociology class as the song that I would use to describe my life. Mysterious. Exciting. Provoking. Modern Classic.
Thanks for uploading this! I loved it as a young kid in the '60s---I saw the first trans-Atlantic broadcast relayed via TELSTAR I, and this song still make me think about a future that's better than what we've got now. Hope and impatience can both be very healthy emotions, used correctly...
I would like to make y'all aware that there is a new publication being issued which contains literally thousands of YouTube comments. It's called 'You Are A Tube!' compiled by Steven Fried PLC.
I found this song after I saw an episode of the British TV show '24 Hours in A&E', filmed at King's College Hospital in London. Roger was one of the patients on that day, complaining of chest pains. He went on at some length about his former fame, to the bemusement of hospital staff. He didn't come across very well; instead, he appeared extremely egotistic, arrogant and narcissistic. This song is cool, though.
@NiteShok I saw the episode just now and my heart went out to Roger who was looking at his mortality and his life's work, and his fame spurred him on to reliving the good times during his hospital stay. Is that egotistic to be proud of your achievements? I don't think so. What a gentlemen Roger was.
One of the best instrumental hits, my mom and dad turned me on to a variety of music ,through the 60s ,i can still remember this tune when i was two ..
Carl mate when this was no1 they built a pub in southampton calling it the telstar after the satellite and this, heinz burt died in southampton 6 months after the .... bulldozed the pub to make way for flats a few years ago.Heinz sadly died penniless of motor neurone disease i delivered to him as a postie a lovely guy

listened to this back in Daytona Beach on WMFJ the music back then was wonderful I miss my old hairdryer, sleepovers and big rollers and the purple eye shadow
@GIRLOFCELJE Ha ha,this song sounds like it brought back some nice memories for you,hey while i am here, thanks for adding my channel and i have subbed ya back, have a great coming year. Carl
The meaning of this music is: Hope. I was 5 years old when Telstar was launched, and I can remember the feeling of hope for the future most people had in 1962, especially represented by the space program. We stood on the threshold of a grand adventure. Some comments here talk about how satellites are being abused for evil now. We always stand at the crossroads of good and evil: which way will we take? I still love this piece; for me it represents the good humanity can do if we will.
1962 was the year I learned that they would fill our skies with hardware that would do God-only-knows-what. NOW WE KNOW - Just take a look at Google Earth and zoom at street level, see people, license plates, house numbers. Privacy laws don't matter. They said Telstar would carry communications, improve our lives. Look where the technology led: satellites control drones to make missile strikes anywhere in the world, killing innocents along with perps. Not much improvement of human life, huh?
@fishstory no no no no no no no no no! Google earth does NOT use satellites. If it did the images would be the blurry mess we get from Mars ever couple or so months. It uses and always has used images from taken from aircraft. But yes still a pretty scary song and a pretty scary truth.
@Pololej ????no no no no no no ? Google Earth is satellite imagery - go to the Google Earth Home Page and read the "Overview". If you compare imagery on Google Earth to the Terraserva and NASA satellite imagery, they are the same. The large surface survey areas could not be achieved with aircraft.
@fishstory Its Satellite imagery combined with ariel photographs. You get a good but not amazing picture from satellites, and you certainly do NOT get to see peoples faces or their license plates. It is simply untrue that it is due to the satellites being there you cant ACTUALLY SEE the peoples faces. What you are trying to ensue is that google is evil because google and only google has the express ability to view the pictures they took. Great, so what about photographers?
@islommer seriously lol, yeah i would imagine if you had your headphones on it could make you jump a bit,hey many thanks for your comment and for watching, you have a nice evening. Carl
@cattini007 I agree, and as I wrote earlier I'm not sure why, but I think it might have something to do with my knowing of Mr. Meeks lifestory that is somewhat similar to my own. It's probably just in my mind, but I hear a gravenes/gloomines behind the seemingly 'happy' tune. I'm from Denmark - please excuse any misspellings.
@islommer i know what you mean , i saw the film that depicted the rise and fall of the tornados , and joe was involved with the occult , which is and became very dangerous ... i am right in saying that am i ? i think he was involved in all that , anyway telstar was a huge hit for them , as was globetrotter their next hit single ...
Hi! I was born in Hungary in '56 I was little child, whin this music was on top. I listened to music by night on the first transistor radio with earphone. This music was my secret and mystic world. It's wery nice to hear them, and see the faces, who played them - to see music broadcast it was impossible in the 60's in Hungary. Greetings to every Tornados fan!!
@56Windman Thanks for your comment,i think a lot of people around the world use to have problems listening to music in the early 60's,here in England we had pirate radio ships broadcasting of the Essex coast my late parents used to listen to them before we had radio 1 here.Have a nice evening. Carl
@56Windman I knew several kids in school who were from Hungary and emigrated with their parents during the revolution/uprising in 1956 It would have been an interesting place to be. You were to young to remember it but it was a proud time for the Hungarian people, planting the seeds for the fall of communism in the 1980s.
When i was a kid, my older cousin had the 45, and i just had to "borrow" it. I don't think i ever gave it back. For trivia fans, The Tornados were the first British pop group to have a #1 hit in the USA, with this song...a year before The Beatles.
@ZoahLord The guitarist of this band was the father of Matthew Bellamy (Muse's frontman), and he made the beginning of Knights of Cydonia be a tribute to this song.
Don't know why this song makes me cry, but it reminds me of being a kid...about 7 or 8 years old, listening with my parents and siblings...happy family-type memories, safe and sound with no worries...just the future ahead of us. Thanks so much!
