  • "Shiren collapsed from hunger." 0:27

LOL, You have to keep your characters FED?

  • “Copying” is a bad word. The Mystery Dungeon franchises started with Torneko and Shiren and expanded everywhere (Chocobo, Pokemon etc.) But even the first games were based on PC roguelikes such as nethack, which in turn are based on rogue, the first “graphical” RPG game from 1980. (rogue and most roguelikes use ASCII letters to draw the map; they’re “graphical” in that the characters represent the layout of a map, instead of textual descriptions like earlier adventure games.)

  • That looks incredibly similar to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. Anyone know who was copying who with their first game?

  • @GammaFoxTBG

Long answer: Both are part of Chunsoft's "Mystery Dungeon" subseries that other media francises can use. The first one featured Torneko from Dragon Quest IV, and Shiren is Chunsoft's own stock character for their FnD games. There's also the Pokemon ones, which didn't arrive until a couple of years ago, and Chocobo ones.

    Short answer: Shiren came first.

Eleven years earlier, to be exact.

  • @GammaFoxTBG i zthink shiren came first, cause i do believe that pokemon dungeon first came out on gba, but i wouldn't use the term copying, same idea perhaps, but two different gamed...
