Has one of the American versions of "Match Game" (preferrably Gene Rayburn-hosted) been seen in the UK? Because I know that game shows like The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune--legends in the States--have had trouble with being on consistenely in the UK.
@spxmet, my opinion is that those two have thrived for so many years because they found the right host that gels to perfection with the show. Look at Bob Barker. 35 years nonstop doing TPIR. Nobody can duplicate that!
@LeotheUSALion That's because there will only ever be one Bob Barker, one Pat Sajak, Alex Trebek, etc. But I was wondering wass it really the host that did Blankety Blank in? Or was it the format itself that didn't go over too well? Thats why I asked if Gene Rayburn's Match Game did well over there.
I understand that Match Game didn't translate well to Britain. And, I think I can see why-the producers in England seemed to need to use a laugh track 'caus apparently the audience didn't gt the hosts humor.
@b223647 There was no laugh track. Blankety Blank was filmed in front of an audience and Les Dawson had them in stiches. Look for a joke he told on Blankety Blank called Blow Out The Candle.
@b223647 It was very popular here in the U.K,as was Les Dawson, certainly no canned laughter ever needed or used.Would have liked to see the American version.
Ampex196, I think I can tell what you did in the BBC! Are you an announcer or staff there? I think your channel is good too, as you have known I like your channel.
I know; since they named almost every international version of $ale of the Century "Temptation" (which failed miserably in 2007 in the US), why couldn't they call this "Match Game"? It's stupid to rename the show; look at Millionaire!
Down Under there was a show produced in the 60's called "The Match Game" which had nothing to do with the American version. I think it was either a Policy made by Mark Goodson who owned the rights to the series or it was a decision made by the different Countries TV Productions who decided what the name of the show would be.
They did indeed distribute the show to other countries. It was the staffers of the show in the UK to intentionally distinguish itself from the American show. But you people are right. Renaming a show is a hatious crime!

Thanks for posting this lovely bit of nostalgia.
It's sad indeed to reflect that now only two of the seven celebrities are still with us - I'm very privileged to have known three of them.
Pat Coombs was such a lovely lady - happy memories!
