Reminds me of walking in Princes Street gardens in Edinburgh with my cousin I was about 9 eating ice lollies and watching the Scottish country dancers and no doubt making a nuisance of ourselves.happy carefree days.
Superb song . I was in love with a married woman and this was our song but she wouldn't break her family up . Moved on but still wonder what could have been.
This is such a wonderful, happy song, it lifts my spirits everytime I listen to it! I love the strings in the background.....fantastic, reminds me of my teenage years!
I'm 53 this month and can remember this on the radio when I was a kid, it used to lift me and still does today. Saw Iron Maiden in Notts last week, went to Download but I will always listen to quality in any style and this is quality.
Yes, I agree with you, this reminds me of my very happy teenage years. Just the song to lift your spirits, I can't think of anything else like it.........well, maybe Marvin Gaye and Tammi Tyrrell singing Ain't No Mountain High Enough. There's always something special about a favourite song when you were a teenager ......... dream, dream! Love this!
I am 37 in a few days, love heavy metal and hard rock, but I would have to truely say, they don't write songs like this any more. My absolute faverourite. A pure gem.
This was from a time when you could tell Englands seasons apart. Before man totally destroyed the worlds climates, and any hope of peace, with wars, greed and mass hatred. Which will once again bring about the demise of the human race. As they say history repeats itself. Sorry to be so heavy. But this song was from far better times than we live in today....
I have loved this song since the 70's something about it, the way its sung makes one feel glad to be alive. Did not hear it for years and now its popped up again. Great.
The year of Fumbled Memories and Fond Kisses at the Disco Express .Reminds me Of MEL Scholes..Thank you for everything...and the memories...superb vocal track
The year of Fumbled Memories and Fond Kisses at the Disco Express .Reminds me Of MEL Scholes..Thank you for everything...and the memories...superb vocal track
1969 ...oh fond memories of a girl I fell in love with as a boy of 14, the girl at the bus stop, for the whole year I would wait and catch the late afternoon bus just to see her get on the bus as I got off, she never knew I loved her, we never spoke except one day I got up the nerve to say hello. I never saw her again, I later learned she moved that week to another state. Oh Margaret, what ever happened to you???
In 1969 I was involved with the biggest charity walk OXFAM 69 and every time I reached wembley they sent me back to another check point. The day before I had a bike written off and nearly me. Great year with more ups and downs then all the Sixties put together. Beatles and other groups all splitting up. Great songs like these made it all worthwhile. And the girls wore those sexy clothes enough to stop traffic suddenly.
i remember driving with my then girlfriend when this song came on the car radio and thought ,what a day,i married her and divorced her 2 years later, re-married 2 kids and now im 61 years old. what happened. but i still love the music
The Happiest lovely song of all time and the Happiest on the Brilliant YouTube. Brings back great memories of summers spent at my late Grans house throughout those years. I love this song! Nice lyrics, loping rhythm and that glorious orchestra. Quite the opposite from his rather melancholy better-known track "Where Do You Go To My Lovely" (also a great one). I'm also rather fond of "I Am A Cathedral". But "Frozen Orange Juice" (which I hadn't heard until 1980-something) has become my favourite.
I took magic mushies once and thought I was a small fish...but that wasn't this song (it was Piper at the Gates of Dawn, for the record). Yeah, I love this song. I think it's right up there with the Beatles' best. actually.
this is my all time fave record . amazing voice , the lyrics are sublime . charliemctruth u are a genius. keep postin keep rockin my friend .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is amazing how some songs have the quality of encapsulating a time, a place a feeling-and like magic you can access this and return to the place you were-this is one of those songs, larger than the sum of its parts somehow?
Gad. I could listen to this song all day. Does anyone else get the feeling that after the orchestra kicks in, the whole song just scoops you up and carries you along? The imagery that this song creates is so strong. You can see a young couple enjoying the Spanish sunshine together. I only had an imaginery girlfriend in those days but the adoring look in her eyes as we climbed the hills of Madrid was captivating.
Possibly the greatest summer song ever wrote, from a guy who has been under-rated for far too long. For me he is a sheer genius. Brings back great memories of childhood summers spent with my late gran, who died a year ago this June....
This song and "Jean" by Oliver are the two songs that bring back 1969/70 for me. I can recall my exact feelings about school, life and love even the taste of life all those years ago just from hearing this. Oh the magic of music. Thanks for the post.
