  • the riff is......

the way the guitars are recorded in the studio version is just amazing... it's one of these songs where you can't really tell what they're playing, you don't think about chords, something that happens with most Pavement songs...it's like pure music, and weird notes put together.. pure music as something new and weird and exciting.

  • does somebody has the rest of this show?

  • @pmandrade89 looks to me like this is from Slow Century

  • This is my favorite Pavement song. It's fucking beautiful. I always sing along to it. haah

  • saw them play this at the Greek in Berkeley last summer (2010)for the reunion tour... love love love love love Pavement, love this song....They are possibly the most important Indie band ever!

  • i saw 'em last year in boston... unfortunately i was far back, but still... fucking Pavement!!!

  • the absolute coolest guitar nerd-hero ever ....

  • Is this a summer song for anyone else? or is it just me? ha

  • @KwlNerd Probably just you....Nice tune nonetheless

  • @KwlNerd that's so interesting. i always return to this song in the winter. it's perfect for gloomy days. you've just made me see it in a different light

  • @easyluckyfree7 It feels like one of those summer relaxing songs, reminds of sitting in a field doing sweet sweet nothing :)

  • @KwlNerd Don't know why but i consider it as a winter song (if it really exists)...

  • @KwlNerd Completely ! It's been a month I've been listening to this song over and over... Only happens in summer

  • @Heuh999 Has a great chill-out vibe to it. And the lyrics just describe my summers.

  • 3:12 - 4:06 is amazing

  • I need louder speakers.

  • man. If I ever do anything that cool...

  • This is fucking amazing. Pavement are undoubtedly one of the greatest bands ever.

  • Pavements been around since 1989 fools! give em props they deserve. very influential band! they have and continue to give 110%

  • when is this?

  • @modestdarkness could be the dumbest thing ever said on youtube

  • @modestdarkness modest mouse sucks

  • @JustinStarbuck modest mouse is actually great. especially their older stuff. but it's your opinion

  • @modestdarkness Yea, playing gigs when Isaac was still shitting in diapers.

  • @cannabisabuser Agreed. Pavement was already pretty big when Modest Mouse was just starting Im pretty sure

  • @modestdarkness Modest mouse was rally fuckin good in the 90's but these guys were making music first. and their style isnt really the same

  • yeee sounded just as good live 9/18/10 in Boston. great concert

  • ya--why not listen to the vid from the 9/18/10 boston show! Agganis arena acoustics accepting--awesome.

  • Look at malkmus kick ass on the guitar.

  • DAMN!!! This song is FRESH!!!!

  • I can't wait to see them at pitchfork, wow.

  • There's no better principle than just not giving a fuck and playing what comes out. Pavement are true American heroes.

  • this is good, but the version on the slow century dvd is better.

  • @firedownbelow958 This IS the version from the Slow Century DVD.

  • such a beautiful song. may 21, 2010 prague. cant wait to see them live

  • prague and vienna as well!

  • one of their greatest songs...

  • March 1, 2010, Auckland, New Zealand - I can barely contain myself!!!!!

  • awesome, man. Extremely jealous, but Pavement was always very close to New Zealand and Australia. They idolized alot of your great bands. I guess it's only fitting that they open over there. Have a great one....and try to get some good footage ;-)

  • Agree.... vehemently

  • @lapdogwilly1 I second that ruling.

  • @lapdogwilly1 : Definitely ...

  • @lapdogwilly1 Man it just might be... other than Grounded I would strongly argue "In the Mouth of a Desert", "Rattled by the Rush", "Elevate Me Later", & "Stop Breathin"

  • @pogi7 Greenlander!

  • @sartori69 I just heard it for the first time now... wow! Another good Pavement song, tnx

  • @lapdogwilly1 everyone.

  • @lapdogwilly1 I've yet to find a better track.. although I'd say Elevate Me Later probably ties it.

  • J.E GILBERT IS THAT YOU

  • Awesome. Hope I get to see them again. Amazing song, one of my faves. Was this video recorded in Chicago?

  • This song is so good

  • THE wonderful album.

  • Sensational! I want them to get back together, I was too young to see them first time round!

  • me toooo!

  • The BEST! LOVE IT

  • i met stephen a little over a year ago at a jicks show in indy. to behonest i thought he was extremely nice. we spent more than 45 mins talking. i sure that towards the end of pavement the stress level was high. that may have effected alot of how he acted towards spiral. being in a band that lond can be difficult. specially when the members are moving in different direction.

you can check out a video from the jicks show on my page.

  • Hmm. After watching the DVD, and learning about all the drama between SM and Spiral, I can't help but be reminded of it when watching vids like this, or even listening to songs. I mean, SM comes across as a real douche, and I haven't heard good things about him online either. It seems like Scott was always getting shafted by him. BUT, I must say the double guitar in this live version is fucking killer!

  • You can't blame SM he has the talent!

  • Stephen himself has admitted that he acted like a dickhead at the end of Pavement, he even called himself the skinny prima donna. He was very frustrated because he was the only one growing as a musician. The others are just not as good as he is and it was weighing his creativity down. He was even pissed on occasions when the others would fuck up, but then again he fucked up regularly himself, and still does. He just wanted to play with better musicians to raise his game. And he did and does.

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe, maybe not. As good as his new band is, his new music still isnt up to the same level as the first four proper Pavement albums at all in my opinion. Still enjoyable of course.

  • Good point, pavement albums are better than his solo stuff.

  • this performance toppled me! fuck, i wish i was there.

  • Best Song Ever!!!

  • easily one of my most favorite pavement songs...

  • absolutely incredible

  • Excellent, such a great video, thx 4 posting this!

  • increíble,impresionante,

    incalificable,asombrosa,

    cancion

    always dream with PAVEMENT.

  • Pavement will forever be amazing.

One of my favourite bands for sure.

Seeing videos like this only make me want a re-union tour more and more.

  • That lead guitarist always reminds me of Lee Renaldo from Sonic Youth from some reason: always dodging the main attention yet so kick A!

  • Anyone know what date this show took place?

I wanna see if they have a boot of this hehe :).

  • Pretty positive this entire show is on Pavement: Slow Century DVD.

  • Sweet. Thanks man.

  • That last part was mind blowing.

Backwards is all I have to say!

  • I can't wait until they re-release Brighten The Corners!

  • I will be first in line for it :)

  • Amazing!

  • PLEASE, PLEA, BOYS ARE DYING ON THESE STREETS.

This song blew me away the first time i heard it. And it still does.

  • good but...pavement destroys explosions

  • Yeah, pavement definitely blows them out of the water.

  • fucking amazing

  • stephen malkmus has the greatest way of executing a riff. who needs pete townshend?

  • There is still something very alive about even seeing a youtube of these guys playing their guitars and singing. Man I love these dudes.

  • "he spoke of latent causes, sterile gauzes and the bedside morale..."

    awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ooohhhhh yeah, i don't got many "Favorites" but man ohhhh man this is on this 4-eva....eva.evavava.

  • Wowee Zowee remains my favorite Pavement record. It may not be as consistent as CRCR, but come on...Grounded, Rattled By The Rush, Black Out, Father To A Sister Of Thought...I could keep going on and on. Pavement's masterpiece.

  • I agree. WZ = an absolute monster, but I'd argue their most consistent too. I adore every track except for Western Homes.

  • Ich könnte dieses Lied hoch- und runterspielen. Toll! :-) Great!

  • Malkmus is GENIUS

  • That was just so damn awesome. Sooooo good. Sooooooooooo good.
