  • This rendition sounds manufactured instead of authentically understood. Obviously Lola is a considerable talent, but she hasn't gotten to the point where she deserves to play in the Stern Auditorium. I hate to say this, but since classical music has fallen on hard times, financially speaking, they are having model-pianists like this play, regardless of whether they sound professional.

  • As much as I love Rachmaninoff, i can bring myself to like this sonata. Horowitz, richter, wiesenberg, sux for me i guess

  • Ok...I think this woman could turn me straight!! She must be a straight man's DREAM!! Such beauty and such talent!! There's nothing like seeing a woman play the piano...with emotion!

  • Awesomely PERFECT! I teach like you play, using a European piano course.

  • If God played piano...Lola would be his teacher.

  • I love seeing the emotion match the sound.. lovely and beautiful

  • I absolutely love watching you play as much as I enjoy listening.. It seems that the feeling of music is lost anymore .. but, you express it so well. :) thanks for the inspiration

  • No sheet music. WOW <3

  • Bravoooo . It's wonderful .

Are you Girl or Jin .?

  • 4:39 is, was, and always will be my favorite part~

  • shes hot to be a piano player

  • With virtuoso players like you, I seriously wonder why America doesn't appreciate its great musicians. I really don't get it. You're so incredible.

  • 4:24 OMG *O*

  • I dont know if she makimg scean or she really really REALLY into this , but eather way , its grate . :)

  • @MsLitko wth?

  • @MrJackanthony whats the problem ?

  • @MsLitko Making scean? I can only assume you mean she's 'making a scene' And that doesn't make sense now does it? Trust me, she's REALLY into this

  • @MsLitko :)

  • @MrJackanthony Im so sorry your honor , next time ill write it in more than 2 sec .. :)

  • @Belamus You must be deaf, you poor fellow. I have to say you truly are missing out.

  • This is such an emotionally moving piece, played with deep intensity. Thank you for posting!

  • vulgarity of the highest order. when some (ignorant) people say that rachmaninoff is a schmaltzy composer, they are obviously basing their views on performances like this one. one only needs to compare the nobility in rachmaninoff's own readings of his works to see how utterly tasteless ms. astanova's performance really is.

  • @Belamus

    Get over yourself.

  • @Belamus Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I've heard Rach's firsthand version, and I'll listen to Ms. Astanova's with pleasure.

It's a wonder that you and your ego can both fit through the doorway.

  • @Belamus just a few things: I'll be honest, I've never heard of rachmaninoff or astanova until like 5 miniutes ago... but I've heard my fair share of both awesome and shitty music and to describe this as tasteless and vulgar makes no since to me... I won't say this is the best song i've ever heard or anything, but that was pretty kick ass if you ask me...

  • Her energy and tension are wondrous to behold. I would guess Miss Astanova is emotionally charged by this music. Hence the physical response and the impressive performance. Thank you for this posting

  • From 3:05-4:30 I feel like you're ripping my soul out and splitting my heart into a million pieces.

  • thats fucking hot

  • Anyone notice that she plays from memory?

  • @49kasey thats the only I can play...lol

the question is anybody notice her hand looks like she about to softly pimp smack the piano at certain points of the song

  • @lopytube Pimp smack??? Like a ho? LOL!!! She's really intense and intent and absolutely wonderful.

  • Will you marry me?

  • Will you marry me?

  • you look like kim kardashian in this video

  • Enough with the unnecessary gestures. Just make music. The rest just seems fake.

  • @pianist4jk what difference does it make?

  • future talent

  • I think it's amazing just how she plays. I have a bit of the feeling that it not only plays on the piano, but that it plays on the piano while she plays on the piano. I hope you know what I mean. and I sometimes have the feeling that the klaiver with an aversion plays as they would have had to learn piano ... but that may indeed be all illusion ;-)

  • You are GREAT PIANIST !!!!

    I love You LOLA

  • Ms. Lola Astanova..,,I grew up with this wonderful piece as my father played it a great number of times pianist Ozan Marsh (Google)- He played another 1st version of the Sonata, I would like to share his performance with you if you have time.. Ozanne@usa.com

    Wonderful Playing!

  • So passionate! This is so much more than just an interpretation!! You are amazing!

  • you are incredible!!!!

  • @88alan8800

apparently you were looking and not listening, things were still reverberating, sooo not about the hair...

  • @YouPrizm actually....a performance is not just about listening, in a live performance, what the audience SEES has quite an impact on what they hear/how they listen. Anyways, it is a minor detail but a detail nevertheless. Im sure the audience would be fixated on another part of her anatomy!

  • @88alan8800

her performance is obviously visual, but nonetheless, the break was so internal she might have had her eyes closed as well; no hair touching was involved, it is obvious all the movement is purely emotional, and emphasized visually to reassure all the points are well made, seems like to herself and the Great Stein as well. Her composure on this screen is ABSOLUTE to my eyes.

  • Where's.. my... LOLA?! ;)

  • This movement is just heavenly! I wish more people would listen to it.

Lola your playing is out of this world!!! Thank you!!!

  • beautiful!!

  • You my dear have looks and talent. An evening in just sitting there listening to you play the piano by the fire would be a dream. Take care prekrasnyĭ

  • amazing. music is definitely in your heart. never stop playing

  • What passion restrained, like a love kept secret and silent.

  • wow, i never thought of this song that way, but every hand movement and dynamic really portrays the hesitation. i can really see it now! great pianists wouldnt be great unless they had great listeners too! thanks for the insight! :)

    GO LOLA!

The adagio of 2nd movements have never been my favorite til I heard this.
