@AntonyJoseph well... Simply put, you swap it with a mate that will eat it. But most times you can stretch a 24hr Ratpack out to 3 days. :)

@aussiedigger852 That's what it says on the pack 24hr One Man. PR1M (Patrol Ration One Man) The CR1M (Combat Ration One Man) is slightly different, it uses wet packed food in place of freeze dried food. It depends on how hard you've been working. The more energy you burn, the more you need to eat.

@GhostVVarrior Yeah, but these are Aus Defence Force Issue so they are not available to civies. You can get a very similar pack called a Hungerbuster which is almost identical but for civillian use.

Im from the US so please excuse this question ! But what is vegemite ? Looking at this meal kit, it beats the US MRE all to hell ! Would like to own one to try all of the contents ! Are meals suck compared to yours and the brits ! Ive never seen anything like this,I really like the idea of the tubes! Now thats cool !

@ppspsd Hmmm...how do I describe vegimite? It's a savoury spread for toast, bread or crackers. It's really salty and strong tasting so most people who taste it for the first time don't like it. It's an acquired taste. Think of Soy Sauce as thick as Peanut Butter.

As for the Meals, the US MRE comes with wet packed food and a Heater Bag. The Aussie Patrol Ration meals are Freeze Dried so you need to add boiling water.You can eat them dry if needed but I wouldn't recommend it.

The Combat Ration comes with canned meals so no need to re-hydrate, just heat and eat.

this MRE looks really good but...then again there are so many sugary things included. and no heating pack. so IMHO i would choose the american MRE over this one - filling but less sugar-based items and provides hot food.

@jijahjiah I have to agree the American MRE's are great with the heaters and wet packed food. The Aussie MRE meals are Freeze Dried and need water to reconstitute but if needed they can be eaten dry. Some of the older Aussie MRE's used to come with a Hexamine stove for cooking. The Troops usually Field Strip these packs to reduce weight and size and the first things to go are the packs of sugar, the accessory pack and the Onion Potato Powder (Not one of my favourites).

These ration packs are not for public sale. There was a time when you could buy them, but that ceased due to food poisoning concerns several years ago. The Australian Government doesn't want to be liable for litigation from someone getting ill by eating an "uncontrolled" ration pack. (The batches the packs are grouped under are carefully monitiored for edibility and safety. If there is a problem a batch will be quarantined and recalled for rectification).

@mbcNOOFS Yes, this ration pack has 2 main meals and lots of sides. It is designed for one man for 24 hrs. Total energy contained in this pack is almost 14000 kilojoules so I don't recommend consuming the whole pack in 24hrs unless you are burning lots of energy. One of these lasted me 2 days.

that is a great MRE. We know our troops are well feed. My mates in the forces are trying to bring me back some MRE's to try since I can't find them anywhere. i'm doing a trade, they come to my restaurant where I work and i cook them free dinner for their MREs

Looks like a good ration that can keep you feed for a day or two. A few questions though, what was the item that looked like a green sponge, and what was in the cylindrical tube? I hope I can try one of these rations over here in the States, not getting anything up on Ebay. Good video overall, great qualtiy too, but maybe a little talking on each of the items next time?

Hi ComradeGeneralK, Thanks, yes these packs have more than enough food for 24hrs. the Green sponge is actually a Scouring sponge for cleaning your cooking kit and the cylindrical tube contains water proof matches. These MRE's are designed for the SASR (Special Air Service Regiment) and 3RAR (3rd Royal Australian Regiment) troops in the field and they contain very high energy food (about 14000 kilojoules) and beverages. I'm trying these packs for camping.

@auswolf350 These packs are not specifically designed for any unit. They are a general issue item for all elements of the ADF. Including the Navy and Air Force. The SASR tend to use the dehydrated pack more than the "wet" pack, but even the dehyd isn't a special SASR pack.
