  • Thats what happens when you hire annie lennox as a backing dancer.

  • ten storey crock of crap more like.......fnarr fnarr fnarr fnarr,,,,,, jesus wept! LMFAO x1000

  • there's some things i want to see at a rock show. shite vocals and a dancing bird is not one of those things. that wasn't a concert. that was an epitaph.

  • ohhh nooo, oh this is awful :'(

THE DOWNFALL OF SUCH A TRULY ICONIC BAND!

  • Karaoke gone bad. Read about this '96. NME or Melody Maker. Brown was on the front?

  • O.M.G!

  • This was a travesty of a final show and not how a band like the Stone Roses should be remembered.

  • a dancing girl??? really??? what a fucking shame! its sad to watch

  • They didn't go out with a bang, but a whimper. Sad in more than one way. Alas, if they hadn't split, who knows how it would have gone? They might have just become a boring MOR dad rock band who were seen as "that band with the good first album". Their legacy lives on.

I still hope that I'll live to see Brown, Squire, Mani and Reni onstage together again someday. One Love.

  • @devtherevLS You will =] x

  • I was there, 17 years old and with stars in my eyes about seeing Stone Roses. Frankly this is the worst concert I have ever seen, even through my rose colored teenage glasses (And I've been to hundreds of concerts since then). The guitarist was technically good, but it was a bit like throwing someone from Iron Maiden on stage to play with the Smiths. He was doing hammer ons and pull offs during the Waterfall intro?! Everyone in the crowd was cringing and shaking their heads.

  • You laugh at Ian Brown at your peril, you fickle fucker(or are you a fuckle ficker?)

  • whoever is doing the background vocals should be put up against a wall and shot

  • this is horrible to watch

    what a shame

  • Okay

Ian sucks, but who the fuck is backing vocal? Because he sounds as bad as me

  • 'lets hear you sing it'

    Just no.

  • @kingshahine. it depends what kind of cake. i love a bit of cheesecake me, wouldnt really fancy a cherry on it and im sure itd still be a cake!

I know what ya mean tho, one of the last bands where each member was as vital as the other.

  • Brown is an appalling vocalist, period! You don't expect every singer to have a voice like Marvin Gaye, but the ability to carry at least one note would be appreciated - And he can't even do that. To be honest I don't like the Stone Roses. Not because of there music, but because of the legacy they left behind of creating a none stop conveyor belt of 'mad fer it' shite from Manchester. Those Fuckwits from Burnage especially.

  • bahahaa!

  • This is a rare example of a performance that really IS as bad as people make out...a performance so bad it finished them for good. A great shame.

  • I'm a guitarist, and the main thing that draws me towards a band apart from a good tune is the guitaring.

But i've got to say it was Alan Wren who made the groove in this band, a simple 5 piece drum kit sounded like nothing on earth.

Check out Waterfall on live on OSM

    Drumtastic

  • totally agree, love john squires and hes definately a quality guitarist and musicalist but wrenys abilties sometimes get overlooked in this band, he was very simply superb.

  • @toryglenlad1234

the band acknowledge that. he was the most talented musician in a technical sense than any of them. and could play the guitar and bass just almost as good as he could play drums

  • or just a 3 piece, which 90% of his best stuff was done on. Made it sound like a different instrument at times.

  • @Coppertunes

no, every single member of this band was important thats why they were so good. without any one of them, it doesn't sound like roses. squire and reni are the cake, mani is the icing. and ian was the cherry. its not really a cake without any one of those ingrediants

  • I'm never took anything away from any of the other band members, I'm well aware how important they all were, If you read what I said again........

"it was Alan Wren who made the groove in this band"

  • Wow what a way to ruin a legend. Fucking shambolic!

  • Comment removed

  • ian must of been well stoned to let that pole dancer on stage...

  • he was mate, im reading his book at the mo and it said he was drinking and smoking weed before the gig, bad idea! im a massive fan of the roses, but this is embarassing, they were obviously just trying to cling onto sumfing that they use to have a few years ago, which was brilliant! no mani no reni no point. roses 4eva tho!

  • I don't get it,Mani talkin up the Roses before the gig sayin that they were better off with out John, but Mani had agreed to go to the Scream,But Reading was a mistake, i saw them at Liecster in 95 and as good as it was like you said,no Reni no point.

  • As well as that other lost classic, em.. aye, "ca mind fit it was ca'd and at" eh?

  • aye, but they sang High Time...

  • thats fucking embarrassing tbh

brown went on to do some interesting solo stuff...................but just can`t carry it off live.............we was laughing at him the last time I saw him live ,he was so bad,he fooking mullered the gig

  • just sad. so many things gone wrong. dancing girl. a dancing girl?! whose idea was that?

  • this was sad.

  • "Let's hear you sing it".... oh dear god. And dancing girls? What the hell were they thinking?

  • I was there too, people were standing open mouthed not believing how bad it was.

  • I was there, a sad end to a great band. But from the ashes arose....

  • not the roses

  • This is just absolutely terrible. At least Ian rebounded nicely! I think its about time for the real Roses to just reunite already. I'm not usually for reunions, but theres just too much unfinished business with the Stone Roses.

  • This is painful.

  • The Not Roses.

  • whats with the hatred for JS. without him you can;t comment

  • Chris Helme wrote Blinded By The Sun.

So you clearly have no idea what day it is.

    Well done ;)

  • you twat john squire is the greatest guitarist song writer to ever live

  • johnny marr? (benjirichardshooper)

  • JOHNNY MARR. Yes Fuck's sake

  • ..you spelt Johnny Marr wrong, mate...

  • JOHNNY MARR. Happy. why do you take such pride in telling me i did something wrong? are you just doing it to piss me off. i wrote it in two seconds sorry for mis spelling it i hope i haven't offended you? maybe report me to the grammer police. Idiot

  • Sense of humor failure alert...

    Your are nuts..

  • you talk such rubbish.john squire is amazing,he was what made the stone roses.

  • @Ritchie1504 Reni had a ton to do with it too m8.

  • just fuck you

  • thata not the stone roses what was bown and mani thinking ffs

  • Este pobre iba más pedo que Alfredo...

    more drunk than alfredo!!!!

casi ni acaba el concierto y sus ritmos iban precisamente a su ritmoooo

    Mirian was there.

  • appalling, if i ever perform this bad live.....remember i wrote this....c.hughes.

  • he NEVER was a gooooood singer. jus had the attitude. liam gallagher destroys him vocally.

  • well said

  • liam took everything off brown, attitude, swagger, cockiness, hes just an imposter, but hes done a top job of it

  • somebody's finaly got it in one, nice one m8

  • AMEN 2 that m8

  • ..oh yes..

    And add Tim Burgess aswell...

  • i was there and its not true that it was terrible or that people were walking away. it was just very obviously the end. his voice was no worse than it always was and aziz did a good job although they tossed up i am the ressurection.

i admired the brass fucking balls of it to be honest. although to be fair when i was fifteen i would probably have jumped off a cliff if the stone roses had told me too

  • Aziz is shite thats why Ina Brown is pissed. Fucking shite.

  • i feel sorry for ian here i dont know why but he looks lost and kinda lonely. john and ian where obviously extremely close and done everything together. the roses had it all

  • I was at this gig, it was f****g awful. Ian Brown was Flat from the first song. most people where walking away. What a dissapointment.

  • who's that 'orrible lesbian dancing,no wonder they finished, garbage dancin round ghosts of gods(ian, mani)

  • the playing and singing in ian brown solo shows is casually much worse, but at least he's in good vibe in the show. but in reading he was just bored and confused

  • rathcooligan2006 (2 weeks ago) whats with the fuckin niggers? " elizabeth my dear" .culture?...that was a mistake for ian and mani - There all better than you.

  • Ian would fuckin twat you and fuck you off out of the gig for sentiments like that pig!

  • you don't know how much that comment made me laugh?

  • I admired em for doin this show and love *High time* & *ice cold cube* performed here but the dancer is a mistake makes the image cheap.. if they just had it as them playing, ian singin better without being messed up from the weekend there, changed the setlist to not include squire written songs ie "second coming" to avoid johns complex guitar work, it would have been better ...think they wanted to prove they didnt need john...the stone roses did and thats what people expected!!

  • i think this is the point of them dropping down,

as mutch as i hate to say it,

but there purley still the best or one of the best brit bands gone!!

  • More to the point, why are they playing a song written purely by Squire?

So much for 'we don't need him'.

  • what the fuck is that ugly fucking lesbian doing? this is a fucking lads song. and whats with the fuckin niggers? " elizabeth my dear" .culture?...that was a mistake for ian and mani

  • that comment had me laughing my arse off

  • wat a lot of pish!

cant even hear brown singing! this isnt even the roses man

bunch of imposters on the fuckin stage...........roses RIP

  • This is fucking horrendous what a prick Ian brown is.

  • It is horrendous.

  • I saw the Stone Roses at Reading 96 (it was my first big festval, I was 16). I remember it being disappointing - but not totally disastrous. I was probably about 20 feet from the front, my memory is that people were just gutted that the Stone Roses were poor, but I don't remember people booing or anything like that. It was just total disappointment and the realisation that a band you loved were on their way out.

  • It's the only gig in the history of music thats badness is such legend that I actually kind of wish I was there!

I've never heard of a performance that has created such infamy.

  • Dancing woman? What the hell were they thinking?

  • I think they weren't thinking, that's the problem!!

  • this just isn't the stone roses.

  • apperantly Brown went out and smoked weed all night with Cressa- thts wat 'ruined' his voice.

    Still a legend.

  • Whilst that was far from a great performance, it's not really any worse than most of his vocal performances, I'm not sure why this gig has such a reputation for having bad vocals when he sounds about the same as most of his gigs.

  • u shld probably listen 2 him alot more then....coz this gig, was the worst Ian's voice has ever been

  • I have listened to lots of Roses gigs, and yes, he has sang better, and his voice here isn't great, but neither is many of his other gigs. Leeds '95 springs to mind. I think it was more the circumstances that has lead to this gig being singled out...no Squire, dancing woman and the likes.

  • Yeah. Theres no reni at this gig either. Seems like the guitarist is doing the backing vocals in the absence of reni and it sounds bad. Just not the same band really.

  • Its nothing to do with the voice this is the stone roses but it doesnt feel like it

  • Ian Brown is a fuckin' AWFUL live singer.

  • they decided to break up after this mainly because of how bad the performance was

  • crap...they split, coz they were going nowhere, without squier and reni....6 month after this, mani left, and tht was it

  • What I said is true, this gig along with 1 or 2 other gigs where fans booed and threw things onto the stage in protest paved the way to the breakup. Sqier and Reni leaving was also a factor, but the biggest one was these last gigs.

  • the best thing they ever done

  • no squire no reni... shockingly bad

  • That`s pretty crap

  • oh and i forgot to say, Ippinson imploring the crowd to "put ya hands in the air!" and "lets hear you sing it!"...truly out-Spinal Tapping Spinal Tap. Where did it all go so hilariously wrong? (too many points to mention...the court case, the drugs, the laziness, Reni going then Squire). still, they wouldn't be The 'Roses if they'd just had a career path like any band.

  • From the greatest band in the world...to er, 3 session heads from Simply Red, Asia & Orchestral Manouvres In The Dark (Maddix, Ibrahim & Ippinson) plus an about-to-leave Mani and a can't-be-bothered Brown. with DRY ICE! and fuckin' YAZZ in thigh boots and the sort of dancing that should be reserved for 'a tribute to 2 Unlimited'. and they broke the old 'Roses say-nowt mystique at the press conference by savaging Squire while all WEARING SHADES. ho-hum.

  • You said it. I just feel for all the regressive fans who stick by a wounded, dying band through thick and thin. Move on people!

  • not the same without john and reni.

  • whats with the fucking girl!

  • LETS HEAR YOU SING IT....

  • Ian Brown should be forced to learn an instrument. Preferably his voice.

  • absolutely

  • I was at this it was so shit that I fuct off to listen to Underworld in a packed tent. Still, I love the Roses!

  • I was cringing to be honest. From 4 working class lads giving it loads of manc attitude to dancing girls! Despite that I didn't think Reading would be the last gig. Wish they'd reform!

  • I was at this gig. Ians voice was terrible although he looked cool as fuck. The band was very tight but I spent most of the gig kicking myself that i'd not seen the original line up. Still I saw the last Stone Roses gig! Half of em ;-(

  • what did you think when the dancing girl came out?! its funny, i remember on an old roses net mailing list type thing ('stone roses hq') a lot of roses fans who had just been there thought it was great and that the band was going to continue

  • i wish he had released "HIGH TIME" like ice cold cube!!!

  • so tragic. personally i think they never wud have recovered from the loss of reni and it went slowly downhill from that point, a real shame to see how ended up after losin reni AND squire.

  • personally, i think it was a very roses thing to do though, im glad they burned out rather than faded away - EVERYONE remembers how the roses split, u know what i mean? most of their key moments (outside of the music) were fairly shambolic, e.g. paint terrorism at former record label, the late show... its just a shame that it took squire leaving for ian to realise what the band meant to him

  • yeah definitely, totally agree with u. not many bands did wat they did, and ian did well himself carryin the band on post squire. but ur spot on there mate, proper roses fan too, knowin ur history lol:-)

  • They have all been approached recently to do a GB reunion tour, they'd sell out every venue as you know. They are all up for it* and would give proceeds from the gigs to charity's, only one thing though, *one member of the band doesn't want to know.........yeah you guessed it, Brown. Shame.

  • Never gonna happen now, Squire says he's retired from music. Or was he just saying that in the hope of Brown changing his tune?

  • This is the first I've ever heard of the infamous Reading performance. TBH, Brown sounds no worse than his average live performance here. I think it just comes down to the fact that a lineup without Squire and Reni was a complete farce and could never be accepted.

  • yeah dugsie i loved the song "high time" i asked ian brown why he never released it on UMB like ice cold cube when i was at a signing and he said he lost the demo for it lol , ive download the song and it's a great song with great lyrics he should definitely release it!!!!

  • yeah i really like that song too, but unfortunately dont have a dvd copy of the gig to rip. i think 'high time' was written by aziz and ippinson though, so maybe thats why he doesnt want to use it anymore... though having said that, 'nah nah' was written by just ippinson and he used that at the time

  • Where did u get the download ive been lookin for ages

  • It can be found on e-mule

  • there was a new roses song played that day ''high times'' class id love to see it uploaded

  • always wondered if it was as bad as people say but fuck me that's tragic. actually quite distressing to hear it.

  • thanks for posting video,as always wanted to see it,great to see the king monkey has shown his true colours and come up trumps!!!ian brown amazing ICON

  • long live john squire and reni.

  • It's so sad. They should have called it a day after Squire left, because Ippinson, Maddix and Ibrahim could never deliver the same feeling to those songs as Squire did and this horrendous performance of them at Reading just proved that the Roses had become their own tribute band. How could Ian have been so foolish?

  • and a poor tribute band at that- i think that maddix and ippinson had a lot more influence on the roses at the time than people realise-such a shame-cant beilieve people slag off squire for leaving the group at that time when he had no choice

  • the coolest band ever endend up as these bunch of tits? shame and that dancin lesbo whats that about!?! smoke a dick brown/ippinson r.i.p roses
