@prsttx fixie bikes? Do you also say MTB bikes and station wagon cars? I'm sure we are many dedicated fixie riders who hope you are right, though Google Trends show something else. 5 years ago there were people saying what you just said. When is soon? Just wondering.
@prsttx People have been riding fixed gear bicycles since the 1850's. Only within the past few years have hipsters started using them and have brought them to the attention of the cycling industry.
You will always find someone riding a fixed gear bike, not forgetting the fact they are required under UCI rules for track riding. The father of cycling, James Starley, would turn in his grave if he could see everyone riding around with gears.
Lots of people say that fixed gear are just for hipsters and u need to dress like one to ride a fixed gear. I ride one and I don't give a shit what people think. My money my bike. I can do whatever I want with it.
very nice but i wish juliet would protect her beautiful noggin with a helmet. Its bad enough the stopping power on fixies are shite. But no helmet and/or brakes is le dumb.
I'm planning on buying my first fixie in a month of so. I've looked around at different brands etc... but I always seem to end up watching this video over and over again... Charge.... I think you may have a new customer LOL
@DerpsRUs True true, I greatly enjoy riding fixed, used to ride brakeless then moved to London and realised the utter stupidity of it. Slapped a brake on there and haven't looked back since. It's fun riding brakeless, but I do enjoy havining my insides where they are! Fixed is fun (I came from a BMX background, but long distances became hellish to ride) but only for the feel and fun. Riding overly expensive super shiney bikes for the look negates the point of riding enjoyment.
@DerpsRUs You always have brakes for as long as you have legs, they work the same. Breaks are for fakes and for people that truely dont understand fixed gear.
We're trying to lead this 'fixed revolution' that is only constantly put down, and all we can do is bar spins and skid through leaves? I do that shit all day and think I suck, now I know the Charge riders aren't doing much anything else, really. We've got to pick up our game, we've been doing this for years!
lemme be an 'merican for a sec..."Where's yer goddam helmet and front brake..fer gods sake if you get hurt, I (meanin the god fearin taxpayer) aint gonna pay fer your labotomy!!"...
whew...now thats outta my system..pretty cool, pretty sweet dare I say pretty sexy...
I rode fixed for a spell but the frank truth is that there are simply way too many steep hills around me to risk going brakeless and without the occasion to coast for a brief respite..otherwise on flatter terrain it's great.
@FEARdaMEDIC thats dependent on many other things than riding a fixie, she might have twins, and that isnt going ot be tighter than a virgin who doesnt ride, i can assure you of that haha :)
There's probably an element of truth in that... all that struggling up hills has to do wonders for the love muscles. I suppose that's one benefit of an otherwise backward form of two wheeled transport. Gears and the freewheel = progress.
@gtr3cords On leaves it's practically the easiest. That's why she fell at the beginning, it's almost like skidding on wet marble lol. This is just a general tip but you have to forcefully stop pedaling, slowing down won't do, if it helps put your body closer to the handle bars, that's how I learned although I can't skid at high speeds, yet.
@iM2DN It dependds on what you want, the smaller the rear cog or the bigger the chainring, the harder its going to be too peddle, slower acceleration and higher top speed but with a larger rear cog or a smaller chainring, the easier its going to be too peddle and faster acceleration but a lower top speed. fixed gear cogs run from 14 teeth to 22 teeth but the main ones used are 16 18 and 20 so with a 46 front cog, id go with an 18

@nilo2209 At least I am not some fucking loser trying to pose as some some half assed fixie specialist, & talk about having no life, here you are on another loser video that features some guy half-assing a bunny hope & barely leaving the ground, soemthign any child can do with ease, lol
@sphinxrising58 you are indeed some fucking loser trying to pose as some kind of half assed fixie specialist. However, a few days ago you didn't even know what a fixie is. Why don't you just pack up your bullshit and leave? Because you are an asshole who gets off on hate and you are indeed a bike snob who wants everyone to envy you because you have that expensive road bike. Well, no one here gives a fuck about your overpriced freewheeler.
@nilo2209 A. It's a street bike, not some damn lame ass touring bike, & yes, it is fully tricked out & still being worked on as we speak so eat your heart out, videos to follow when it's done.
It will be a one of kind bike, totally tech savy, & a piece of art to boot, let's see anyone try to top it, lol
@sphinxrising58 lol I have no idea what you are babbling about. Who said anything about touring bikes? Your bike is boring if it has variable gears, period. Been there, done that. I'm through with gears and I don't miss it. Riding without variable gears becomes a freedom. Like I said, you're a bike snob and you want everyone to envy you because you think your bike is hot. Too bad it's just plain boring.
Maybe you don't use your bike enough to know how useful gears are if your main goal is simply getting around as fast and effortless as possible...fixed gear bikes are more fun but not really "efficient"...
@xxZTRIPPERxx I have been a bike messenger for 10 years so I use my bike enough. In a flat city, gears are not necessary at all. In the long run, gears fail and you spend too much money on new parts or you spend too much time on maintenance - or both. This becomes very annoying, The singlespeed bike eliminates the problem and the absence of variable gears becomes a freedom. Being a bike messenger is not about riding as fast as possible. It's about biking 8+ hours every day and making money.
@nilo2209 haha my bike has gears. Does that not make me cool? Well either way i had fun touring through europe on it and I would not have got through the alps on a fixie. The moral of the story is there is no best type of bike. It just depends what type of riding you like doing. You sound like the bike snob.
@zizzilock it's not about being cool for me and I have no flair for bike aesthetics. I'm not sure which comment you are replying to but I don't mind taunting fixie haters who praise multispeed road bikes out of ignorance. Fixies were used in the first Tour de France races and the riders went through the alps, but of course it's much easier on a multispeed bike. Maybe you wouldn't have made it on a fixie, but others have. We agree on the moral of your story.
this video seems like a parody of itself. I bet whoever came up with fixed gear riding did it as a joke, until they realized that they could make money off it by turning it into a trend.
Fixed gears have been around for decades, it's mostly used by bike messengers in the states. As a new generation of messengers came in they took with them the alternative lifestyle. After that the bikes and style grew up together.
This than gets picked up by the media eventually giving it mainstream attention and appeal.
There is no one person making money, but there are lots of folks who make money exploiting it to newcomers. A fixie doesn't have to cost more than 50 bucks.
@BabylonGenocide149 yeap, skated for 16 years.. still skating.. gonna skate till the end of my life, even fixed geared which i find to be really fun... the thing is, fixed gear riders should just embrace fix gear riding for what it is and not compare it to other disiplines
@korabolex Dope! In a way riding is a close to skating, but its not the EXACTLY the same. I mean you have the freedom aspect of both, but the style and attitude of riding is no where near skating. And its it the little things that I notice about riding that reminds me of skating.

Maybe you wouldn't have made it on a fixie, but others have. We agree on the moral of your story.

@nilo2209 One day, I will have to film some of the locals to show you half-assed fixies what a real bike rider looks like, laughs at all of ewe

this video seems like a parody of itself. I bet whoever came up with fixed gear riding did it as a joke, until they realized that they could make money off it by turning it into a trend.

@yeebeascurvydawg

By the way, ITS NOT LIKE SKATEBOARDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can all the fix gear riders of the world PLEASE stop comparing it to skateboarding!!!!!
korabolex 1 year ago
@korabolex Do you skate? Or have you ever skated?
BabylonGenocide149 1 year ago
@BabylonGenocide149 yeap, skated for 16 years.. still skating.. gonna skate till the end of my life, even fixed geared which i find to be really fun... the thing is, fixed gear riders should just embrace fix gear riding for what it is and not compare it to other disiplines
korabolex 1 year ago 2
@korabolex Dope! In a way riding is a close to skating, but its not the EXACTLY the same. I mean you have the freedom aspect of both, but the style and attitude of riding is no where near skating. And its it the little things that I notice about riding that reminds me of skating.

I think that it is kind of dangerous. I prefer singlespeed bikes with road bicycle brakes
