plp are worried about the waste its not a barrel like u see in the simpsons its a bars of it and will be buried at the bottom of a mountain ita power its cleanest way of power keep burning fossil fuel keep fucking up the earth
that particular design added positive reactivity to the core upon a heat/power increase. Causing it to go prompt critical and literally explode. Bad deal. Then they tried to cover it up. Air monitors in Sweden I believe it was were going off before they even made a notification. Needless to say that will not happen again. If it did, it would be intentional, there are to many redundant safety layers in Western reactor design. Anyway, good luck, nuclear power is good...
However I do agree with you on CHERNOBYL. Tough there was a lot more shit wrong with that picture than just the fact that their safety systems were laughable. They had them manually bypassed anyway. The major design flaw of the core giving it a LARGE positive void coefficient was the factor that made the power transeint uncontrollable. Voids formed in the core, and whereas an American reactor will add negative reactivity to terminate this
Just a couple of other things. First, the spent fuel produced is only HIGH LEVEL for a shorter period of time, but it is very radioactive for many many years longer than that. Not moderately, lethaly. I fyou could find a table of fission product half lives you see that there are several with half lives over 10 years, some over a million years. However with advances in engineering the shipping/storage casks we can realisically keep these contained for that long, or longer
and naturally wanting to regain stability, thus radioactive decay. Also, mass is proportional to energy by Einstiens equation, but you are talking about total mass there. Meaning if you were able to take a tree trunk and make every molecule of it into energy. Nuclear fission creates energy by the release of fission products (about %85 of fission energy) that subsequently transfer their energy to the surrounding medium, causing heat, and down the road producing power.
Dude, I'm not really sure about how old you are or educated in the nuclear world, but I'm sorry to inform you that you have some homework to do. For one, there is a distinct difference between power and energy. You also go into some ranting about electrons and such. Really, in this case neutrons are the creating factor. Isotopes are simply elements of the periodic table, that have taken on extra neutrons, making them inherently unstable
Nuclear power is the CLEANEST AND SAFEST power source around. Thats right Nuclear power is safer then a solar panel. So everyone needs to shutup about a 0.0000001% chance of a meltdown.
hahah same here:P not suree why. but i agree, nuclear power is the only solution. Not standalone, but used in conjunction with renewable. Its a pipedream to beleif that solar and wind can support baseload. BTW healtheocean7 plutionium; as far as im aware is only created in breeder reactors (mainly not used for power). Also thorium reactors can use this waste plutonium as fuel. Problem..solution!
Sure the fuel is highly concentrated. But you forget about the tonnes and tonnes of radioactive tailings produced by the uranium mining, milling, refining and enrichment causes.
..and if only all of the nuclear fuel was actually converted to energy. It's not. It's mostly radioactive waste that lasts so long.
Nothing gets "recycled" because it's too expensive. Breeders are another pipe dream. Although they are technically possible, the price of the plutonium produced is cost prohibitive.
the 'nuclear waste' is still over 80% viable. But its cheaper to discard the 80% viable waste and buy new stuff, instead of reusing and refurbrishing, a waste. If they ust reused the 80% there will hardely be any waste, thats a capitalist economy at work for ya.
And sure, your book said there is so much energy in a gram. But how are you going to get the energy out the right way?
In conclusion, nuclear power is not what everyone thinks, its just THERMO-nuclear
You need to learn to form your own opinion. Our technology these days on nuclear power are NOT at all nuclear.
We dont at all touch or alter the nucleus at all, we just use the decayed matters biproduct, heat, and use it to make steam. Every "nuclear reactor" it just a big steam engine. . . hardely nuclear!!!And by the time the power plant is dont with the elements,
it really must suck to have braces

If it's so safe then why are the grounds around ALL nuclear power plants radioactive?
