The Keys were great, but the festival got totally messed up (in my opinion) by all the soccer moms and dads there to see Bob Dylan. Notice how there's hardly anybody moving? thats because every fourth person was a 40 year old suburbanite with a 13 yr old in tow.
I Agree, I don't think they are mainstream at all, its just good music and eventually more people have heard of them. And I don't think their sound has changed too much just having been produced by Danger Mouse gave Attack and Release a slightly different sound, but still damn good.
@BenCovo I completely agree with but just wanted to reiterate your view on attack and release. The reason why it sounds different is because they use more than just a guitar and drums (which is fine) but one of the main characteristics of the Black Keys is that raw sound of just guitar and drums. Not that I have a problem with it it's just that's why some people criticize it. :)
@neonzebra1001 Dan Auerbach is a fucking rock god and pure genius. The addition of other instruments in their last two records has made them better in my opinion. But nothing beats face melting guitar riffs.
So they changed their sound? I just started listening to them. So i'm glad they are making it big, otherwise I wouldn't know about them. Plus, now they can actually make some money with their talent. I'm happy for them. I am not trying to be rude, I just found that to be an odd comment.
You're nuts man. I've got every album and they haven't changed their sound. They're just expanding it. Great bands evolve they don't just turn out the same stuff over and over. So they've actually produced a couple of albums. Sue them. The lasest album is probably their best and they were about all I listened to before that. I haven't exactly seen them being over over exposed but the idea that a band needs to be a secret to be cool has always seemed an arrogant idea to me.
Your implication was that they totally changed their sound and went "mainstream". They did not. They decided to go ahead an make some albums that weren't limited to a 4 track in their basement.
Oh well I don't want to get into a war of semantics here. :)
Yupp :) Purrty much the best modern Rock band right nowzz you can be me on that!

yeah good for them no doubt. before they changed their sound for the last two albums they were huge in australia and the U.K. I mean they still are.

you just contradicted yourself. Bands do evolve, all I'm saying is that they changed, "evolved" if you like , away from what they used to do.
