  • That is one fat snare. It even had a good body in the higher tuning.

  • @gtrocksyosocks Yes it carries that fat sound throughout all tunings!

    Tony

  • Gorgeous, but it sounded a little muted to me. How much for this beauty? Real price, not MSRP.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN $649.99, it's a great snare!

    Tony

  • I like it that you are playing an imaginary hit hat pedal, while you're demonstrating the snare sound . lol

  • How would u recommend me to tune this snare, thanks

  • @ricardoieci It's up to the player really but, it sounds great in the medium-low tension on the top head with the bottom head tuned up pretty high.

    Hope this is helpful,

    Tony

  • @DrumCenterNH, Thanks. I've always liked 8 X 14 snare drums.

  • sounds like it has a reverb pedal.

  • how do you get that kinda high in pitch but make it still sound with a lot of body, I mean like fat in medium tuning?

  • @pescalante2 - "medium" tunings on both the top and bottom for the medium tuning section

  • That higher tuning is fucking incredible!!!!!

  • can you please do a review of the Benny greb signature snare. thanks

  • Medium tuning. yes.

  • WHy???

Why in the world would you put your hand on the batter head and choke the overtones??? Really why??? I hope you have a good answer, other wise I would not buy anything from your store...

  • WHY???

Why in the world do you stop the overtone with your hand when you stop playing??? What a Cheat!!!

  • Doesnt this snare has too much ring?,

  • @ricardoieci

That is why he places his hand on the head to cheat you off the overtones...

  • when u tight this snare, do u tight reso too?, thanks.

    great vids.

  • i wanna hear the resonance

  • I just bought that snare getting it tommorrow f#@$'n stoked ...thanks shane for hookin it up

  • soooooooooo deeeeep

  • I'd love to be able to afford his snare.

  • With the snares off that higher tuning almost sounds like a djembe or some other world drum.

  • Pretty good sound but they are a little too proud of it.I`d say it`s worth about 350--400max.

  • while i was watching this video, i realized something...i dont have a snare drum.

  • definetly like the higher tuning, but i'd like to hear the ringing, you were muting it after you were done playing

  • how much does it weigh?

  • Lower tuning sounds like CRAP

  • Why does he keep muting the drum with his hand when he stops playing??! He does this in every demonstration video. I want to hear it ring out too.

  • thats thing is a monster!!!!

  • Do you sell the Mike Bordin signature?

  • ahhh I want that!

  • the high tuning sounds almost like a tabla drum without the snare on, sounds like the drum at the beginning of stinkfist

  • I wish you had not used your hand to mute the drum at the end of each performance.

  • Hey yes, you are a really good person, but.......i don't like your kind of "snare TESTING" ...

why you don't play the snare drum in a complete set !!! I can 't understand the really pure sound if u play like Wilcoxon Rudimental Drummer....

    Just my opinion !!! Cheers

  • @andrea0931 i agree i'd love to hear that low tuning in a rock beat.

  • is that michael cole ?hahaha

  • the sound doesnt blow my mind, it blows my cock cuz its so orgasmicc

  • sounds amazing

  • I have the autum fade kit behind you and it has amazing tone! I want to try a birch kit from sonor.

  • Lower tuning = one of the best things I've ever heard.

  • he keeps dampening it because it rings like shit

  • @420velo if the ringing is too much, you can always use moongels, but if you're looking for that Tool/Zeppelin sound, you want that baby wide open like that- the guitars will bury most of the ringing anyway...

  • "...AND A SOUND THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND" JUST LIKE TOOLS MUSIC. :}

  • I am not a fan of big snares especially 8x14's but the high tuning on this snare, I dig!

  • What exactly do those symbols on it mean? Are they just made up by Carey, or they have some actual meaning?

  • @grajdrums 12 point star. sacred geometric shapes....something danny's into studying... as well as other occult past rituals and that sort of thing. so that is just a symbol he enjoys and had on the drum..

  • @themadtapper Dude, no offense but I know that much. I know all that occult stuff he's into, that's why I'm asking - even though I don't believe that too much, I still wouldn't like to have some kind of a satanistic symbol on my drums:P Thanks anyway:)

  • @grajdrums satanistic ? you are an ignorant fag

  • @supersaiayin666 How come?

  • i already bought this snare...besides looking beautiful, the volume & attack of this baby is friggin amazing. it cut through any kind of sound (and my band played metal, loudly)

I can't wait to try recording with this beauty...hopefully my engineer would love it...

  • wow that sounds heavy on low tuning, i fuckin love it

  • Not as good as other brass snares out there. I was torn between this and the more expensive Pearl Reference 6.5x14 brass snare, and when I got to test them side by side at my local drum shop, I found the Pearl to fit my tastes much better. You get what you pay for, I guess. Having said that, this is still a very nice drum.

  • i got to say danny has a GREAT TASTE OF DRUMS

  • Does anybody know if this is worth buying? And what site can I get it from, like a legit site not ebay or anything.

  • @Zybezane YES IT IS

  • oo god!! i love this snare, it sounds great!!!

  • fabulous sounding snare. that one is a keeper for sure.

  • relex man

  • SONOR, NOT SONAR, god damned it!

  • lol, I don't think I know anyone who pronounces Sonor correctly... it should be Suh-NOR...

  • @lordieuan777 it will allways be SOWE-NARR to me sorry lol. love this snare, bit to pricy when i allready have 2 great snares.

  • @lordieuan777 because sonor is a german brand, it should be pronounced ZONOR with the stress on the first syllable

  • @lordieuan777

well ..... no. Sonor is a German Factory and should be pronoucend SO - NOR, but the way SO is pronounced in english sounds diffrent the S needs to sound soft. Hard to explain, get a example from a german video.

    Cheerz Pretender

  • @lordieuan777 more like zoe nor

  • @lordieuan777 actually, I have met a couple reps from Sonor, and it's pronounced So-nar

  • I want it!

  • Check the Artists page on the Evans I know I've seen what his set up is on there.

  • What kind of head would u recommend for this snare to get the best sound? I heard that danny carey uses some sort of evans head, but im not sure.

  • Danny Carey uses the Evans 14" Power Center on the batter, 14" Hazy 300 on reso

  • are you fucking kidding me? his toms on 10.000 days have a personality of their own...just listen to some of the transitions holy mother of fuck do you even play the drums?

  • calm down there bud, its just an opinion

  • is anyone else opposed to the metal drum sound, I just can never get into it. Sounds too much like a really resonant trash can or something...

  • @McQuads87

You mean like every old metallica record for example?

I hate that low pitched sound, I hate it. Danny is the only one that can play on a low tuning and make it sound awesome.

Chris Adler changed it all with that tiny cutting snare, I really dig that sound.

  • kk i need this snare in my life

  • i love the way this thing sounds.

    and yes, let it sing!

  • drums on undertow sound mad

  • Carey's drums sounded awful on "Undertow". Just awful

  • @SuperDali75 the album, or song

  • Lateralus I personally think was his best sounding, 10,000 days was good but lateralus had such an amazing feel!!

  • @PuttAHsockinit the toms are way to muffled/quiet on 10,000 days IMO, just listen to the start of Jambi.

  • Especially Reflections OMG!! Best song for the drums the triggers in the beginning amazing!

  • It's "Reflection", not "Reflections"

  • Cool thanks for the info I already new. I forgot the apostrophe.

  • agreed! They sounded like they were duct taped up really bad. At this early stage of their career, they probably didn't have much say in the studio. The retard producer probably thought that was how drums "should" sound. Actually I think the drum sound ruins the album.

  • Bullcrap! I love the drums on Undertow and all the albums! How could possibly use the word "awful"?? You must not have much of an ear for drums OR haven't really REALLY listened to the drums closely on the Undertow album, or it's not your style. The feeling & sound of the Undertow album is certainly different than all the other albums.

  • why the muffle?

    let it sing!!

  • danny loves his drums to breath

  • Damn you Shane, now I want baloney.

  • i know its tool's drummer's snare but i think this the one im looking for as it sounds like benjamin weikels off modest mouse's album good news for people who love bad news. I wish i could afford it though.

  • So much punch! Next thing on my list to get...

  • it sounds very well for an 8 by 14, loce it, it had to do with danny of course

  • hey, Undertow450, thanks for the shared interest in making this drum sound better. according to the official PureSound website, Danny uses the 14" Blasters series Snare - 20 Strand on his snare drum (even though he's not using his signature model at all times), so it would make perfect sense to change the stock snares with some Blasters, like you suggested. btw, do you own the Danny Carey signature snaredrum?

  • Thx Jigenable ! Yes, I did own the DC snare drum. I bought it about three weeks ago ... I really love it ... It's deep to versatile.

  • I own it, too, since July. I must say it absolutely blows my mind every time I play it. pure joy! SONOR did a wonderful job and so did Shane of DrumCenter New Hampshire. his review on this snaredrum really convinced me to buy this drum. thank you, Shane.

  • so happy about the test, but, please, don't muffle the head with your arm when you finish playing, I wanna hear the sustain.

  • They are $649. I have it in stock if you would like to order. 603-319-8109

    Thanks!

  • $649, i was expecting anywhere form 2 to 4 thousand dollars. the Jeff Ocheltree drums are about 2 and something thousnad dollars

  • @DrumCenterNH not such a bad deal....been around 800 for a long while.

  • how much does this cost?

  • MIC..THE..BOTTOM

  • Do you guys ship to Belgium?

  • Sounds awesome on Medium tuning

  • I was under the impression that DC used a Brady Snare?

  • he plays a vintage sonor HLD590 and Ocheltree bronze drums.

  • @explodingdrumr he uses this one every now and then too !

  • @alex035 no, he really never does.

  • @explodingdrumr how do you know? did he tell you?

  • @alex035 Pretty Much.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a private message.

  • Shane, I have a question. Would it be advisable to change the triple-flanged hoops that this snaredrum came with? I was thinking of some die-cast ones. How would the die-cast affect the overall sound of the snare? thank you so much for doing such a great job.

  • Anyone has an answer on this ? I would be interested to know as well ? And what about the wires : should we change for some Puresound ones (blasters)?

  • Beautiful snare

  • What kind of drum set is being played in the intro? the kick drum on it sounds freakin' amazing!

  • It's a Sonor Designer Birch kit (which is actually for sale here at the Drum Center, along with a Dunnett 6.5x14 Stainless Steel Snare drum.

  • you forgot the right paranthesie (?) in that sentence. hahaha.

Larger drum means more power, yay.

  • lows the best

  • Heh...I agree!

  • @Ludwag511 ME TOO CUZ I LOVE THE LOWER TUNING FOR ALL MY DRUMS. PLUS THATS HOW DANNY CAREY GETS HIS SNARE TO SOUND SOO GOOD.

  • Nice Bonham reference, man!! :D\

    ROCK ON

  • thanks a lot for the quick reply. I'll be writing back, maybe you'll be able to help me with suggestions.

    all the best from Romania/Europe.

  • I already own this snaredrum and I must say it's incredible. Still, I have to work on the tuning. I used to have a 3,5"x14 before. It's a pretty big transition, but hey, 8'' is badass! I have a question : did you use the stock heads on this video? thanks and good luck with the store.

  • That IS a big transition. Like going from a Smart Car to a Stretch Limo.

Just the stock heads in the video.

Thanks for checking out our channel!

  • this snare pwn'd the cast bronze. Bell brass snares are so overrated and overhyped

  • that's sound good, i love bronze snare.

Also, i thought that it will be more fat than that.

  • Thats what i thought because of the size of that beauty

  • Great review

  • I just recieved this snare yesterday are you using any muffling on this ? And when you say medium tuning what would that be on the drum dial on the batter and snare side.

  • I think the batter would be about an 80 and the bottom would be slightly higher, like an 83-85.

    No muffling. Embrace the overtones!

  • I will have this snare...Oh yes I will...

Great review man. Alot of other store video reviews just show you the snare...like "hey it looks cool you should buy it" hehe.

  • Thanks, that's our angle.

We're going to have TONS more snares and cymbals posted in about 10 days or so. Stay tuned...

  • what do you guys think: this one or chris adler's?

  • The Adler and Carey snares are complete polar opposites, so I guess it depends on what sound you're looking for.

If you like a higher, more piercing attack, it's Adler's drum all the way.

For more low-end, and a little broader tuning range, the Danny Carey snare is the way to go.

  • and ya a beastly snare for a beastly drummer god bless danny carey hes the man

  • kk ive been playing drums for a bout 5 yrs now and still dont know how to tune them anyone have a site that shows u how, i know its sad

  • its really not as hard as it looks, easy once you've figured it out.

look up bob gatzen, he's THE MAN when it comes to drum tuning.

  • WOW!

  • I've waited for fucking ever TO HAVE A REVIEW ON THIS DRUM LOL

  • You like that? There's more where that came from.

Stay tuned to The Drum Center of New Hampshire boys and girls.

  • Sounds sweet. Fairly affordable too.

  • FINALLY!!! THANK YOU!!!

  • Glad we could help you out!

  • beautiful! :)

    I must get this...

  • When you decide to pull the trigger, let us know and we will hook you up!
