I believe it was a mistake for greece to buy such expensive equiptment in such large numbers..for some imaginary enemey of greece which doesnt exist anymore...they should reduce this military in order to strengthen the economy..as albania did after fall of communism and we wont make that mistake again to spend billions on military LoooL like poor soviet countries do..our countries are meant for tourism and light exports and rich culture, not for having huge senseless army just for show..

@TheWorldIsMine718 Actually the only reason we have been buying so many and so good quality weapons(tanks,jet fighters,ships,anti-aircraft systems etc.)is because of Turkey and I'm afraid that's not an imaginary enemy,in 1974 we had war with them in Cyprus.During the 80s and 90s we came twice in the brink of war literally.Until today,Turkey not only has an army 3-5 times bigger than ours at least in numbers,they keep trying to upgrade and expand their armory with new weapons.

@Tsagia It was 700,000 bunkers :(...most have been destroyed today but they cost so much money it would be estimated in the billions of dollars today..although it was senseless it did protect albania from a yugo or greek invasion..as for turkey lets be frank..there military is large enough to take the entire balkans and maybe beyond once again..I dont think they have such a desire or interest to solely attack greece especially today when you are in nato and such an attack is impossible by turkey

as for upgrading tanks and infantry..the T-72 is also garbage..as a matter of fact all russian weaponry is garbage as was proven in the arab israeli wars..one u.s made isreali jet could take out 10 soviet migs..last month was the ALMEX military exhibition in albania..alb military purchased around 100 Renault VAB apc's and will purchase another 100 BV 206 S armoured vehicles as part of new infantry upgrades..for tanks I would make a deal with the u.s for the abrams or the israeli merkava mark 4..

@TheWorldIsMine718 The T-72 is outdated yes,but not garbage.Well not completely garbage.I wouldn't personally recommend it to a modern army UNLESS it's fully upgraded and is a secondary tank(you know,like in reserves or to accompany the other more modern tanks).As for the Arab-Israeli wars,first of all they had downgraded(inferior)versions of the tanks and second,training counts as well.Arabs lost almost every war for crying out loud!
By the way,the VABs are nice.They have them in Cyprus.

But I wouldn't go for the Abrams because it's too complicated and too expensive to maintain.Plus you have to keep licking American hands to help you maintain it with spare parts etc.But USA right now is trying to "upgrade" Albania,at least until they use you guys too,so they won't mind promising everything they can.

@Tsagia They may not be moderen..but we had over 1000 of them during the communist era..and still about 100 are in good shape (do to upgrades) and in use today..

@Tsagia No doubt its not even in arguement that the tank is far outdated and will be replaced with a new tank after 2015..but in the meantime in served well in the most recent battle at KOSHARE in 99' when they drove out serbian infantry from the albanian border..serbia at the time was using the T-55 in kosova and in koshare battle and it was inferior to the T-59..but again I say these tanks are very old and have limitations..but albania is now focusing on tourism in economy rather than military

@TheWorldIsMine718 Personally I believe that the Serbs could have eliminated the Albanian army back then but were not given orders to attack and if I'm not mistaken(correct me if I'm wrong please)the Albanian Army was shelling Serbian positions from behind the borders.Yes of course the Chinese Type-59 and the Soviet T-55 are outdated,if you asked me to choose a cheap tank I would go for a heavily upgraded T-72 tank with the latest ERA and systems.
