You know as I told you in Nashville, I am a fan now, and love your cd. You are one of the best talents to come around in years and I am spreading the word on the music sites!! Stay sweet!! Give your boy, mom and dad a hug from me!!
Stacy, I grew up listening to singers like Hazel Dickens, Phyllis Boyens (my aunt) and various appalachian artists. your voice is reminiscent of those times. you have the ability to make people feel pride in WV and our heritage. what a great gift you have and i sincerely hope all the best for you.
Stacy, you do a real fine job singing, and you are comming along good on that guitar also. I live at Iaeger Wv, an old grandpaw man, ha ha, but I have been into music all of my life, along with three of my children, nowdays we mostly play gospel. anyhow I know talent when i see it and hear it. Your voice is ready for the bigtime, and I believe that we could go ahead and tell George Jones that you are ready to fill some of those shoes that he was talking about.
Tracy, you're a real riddle. You hate my music, yet you're obviously one of my most loyal listeners. You trash me for months, only to show up and say it was all a joke and then turn around and start all over again. Obviously, your opinion of my music hasn't stalled my progress in the least, but I encourage you to settle the inner battle you've waged within yourself. As far as your advice to wvhillgirl: He who lives in a glass house shouldn't throw stones.
I love those WV songs that you and your dad are writin'! Don't pay no mind to the idiot calling themselves hayes06cows, obviously he don't know WV pride and most of the best talent in the country spilled out of these mountains, and that these songs were written from experiences that are burned into our hearts and souls, not only of us, but of our kin. You keep on keepin' on, you are a true talent!!!
Wow... an "OK" guitar strummer has to anonymously post bashes against a talented original??? Sheesh, I would rather hear this girl snore than anything you have posted. She has alot of original material on here and more to come, what have YOU done cowpoke?
What a great song! Very interesting chord progressions and melody Stacy!...The bozo below wouldn't know true talent if it walked up and hit him upside the head!!
Amazing voice. Vibrant, strong, and straight writing. Absolutely mesmerizing overall effect. If West Virginia is full of such wildflowers, I'm relocating...
@stacywv you have a awsome voice and great song writeing skills ive been playing guitar 4 3 mths now and i dont sound near as well as you your great end of story keep it up we will all see you in nashville
Okay again, totally impressed. Your voice is absolutely beautiful and this song is gorgeous. I was sad when it ended. I will definitely subscribe and keep listening. Keep up the amazing song writing!
That should have been: Land that sat empty since the '68 riots (and fires). So...we kind of got "gentrified." ; ) And...you know, yuppies are nice enough (having been one, and all), but variety and quirkiness keep things interesting. I never wanted my kids to see one narrow band of humanity and think it's "reality." There are lots of different realities on earth...all pretty real to the people in them. ; ) Oh, and...you have a fan. Your voice is great.
Yes, the differences of realities are a product of the person perceiving them. Obviously, what's true for you isn't true for me. It's the whole, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," scenario. Some issues in life are easily black or white. Some have an entire spectrum of wrong and right. Me...I like to keep things simple and focus in on my own spectrum between the black and white. I never assume that I'm wrong, nor do I take for granted that I'm right. And thanks, by the way.
...and now we find reasons to walk up there twice a day. ; ) But our rent also doubled so we're moving a little out into a county east of town. But, yeah, I can be in the Target thinking, "This is nice, but it's the last thing I ever wanted to value in my life." It's like those suburban strips with every chain restaurant in the world. That's...different. ; ) We both tend to not value THINGS, I think. ; ) Great post, though! But I bet you "think too much" for some people there. ; )
If I'm correctly picking up what you're laying down, I'd have to say that, No, I don't think too much for the folks around here. I formed most of my opinions the way most folks do, I suppose and that was by sitting around listening to older generations share theirs. Most importantly, they were always presented as just that...opinions. "Here's my wisdom to share...if you want more, go out and get your own."
Hah. : ) This is great, Stacy! Really great, because you headed out and saw different people living different ways and then made your own mind up and went back to a place you found inspiring. Though...man, for my money? I used to love zipping past another car on a two-lane going 85...now I'm like..."Crap get a median!" ; ) And...I just picked Macy's to be cute. We actually got a Target built a half block from us in the inner city two miles from the White House...on land that sat empty...
I guess that was my point. For your money, you get and do what you love and what's important to you. I'd rather have a four-wheeler bouncing down a mountain trail any day. Am I right? Are you wrong? The answer to both is no.
Absolutely as beautiful as the person singing the song and I totally agree with a previous comment stating you sound a lot like Alison Krausse. You are very talented, don't stop here. I'd love to write a song for you to sing! Mark
Wow. Your voice is amazing and you need to be hanging out and performing in Nashville. But the song is so sad! I spent 20 years in western PA and a year in Front Royal VA...and I've seen WVa. Couldn't she have joined a support group to get her comfortable with a new setting? She cried every night...with Macy's and Broadway down the street? They should have moved to DC...Rock Creek Park is West Virginia with friendlier deer. : ) Anyway...I shared your gospel medley. It's great! Keep singing!
haha I guess it's a feeling only a WV'n can experience. Nothing can be a substitute for these mountains :). WV girls do their shopping at Wal Mart haha. Thanks for listening.
: ) Well, for a long time, 10 out of 10 of the metro areas in the US where people moved the least often were in WVa, eastern OH, western PA and up around to north eastern PA, like Scranton. Now, down in WVa, they might have achieved that differently, but in PA, they'd tell the kids things like, "Don't get your hopes" and "What, you think you're bettern' us?" : ) And about how they just "couldn't live like THEM (other people)." So it's good that they're loving and supportive there. : )
Dangit...I accidentally clicked "remove" on your other thing instead of "reply." GRRRRR! That's the second time I've done that. Anyway, I've seen October Sky. Yes it was "set" in WV (the very county in which I grew up, in fact...my uncle worked with Homer's dad). I don't recall a time when anyone ever shot down my hopes and the only person who ever accused me of being "better" was my brother and he also called me lazy, which wasn't true, either. He's just a brat. And that is true.
Anyway, the movie wasn't actually filmed in WV and doesn't always accurately represent us or the events. My granny lived in Coalwood at that time and the movie sensationalized what actually did take place. Buy the book. But isn't that always how it goes? I lived in central FL for a while and missed the mountains terribly. I lived in Knoxville, TN, for four years. I truly loved Knoxville and miss it still. It really just depends on what is important to you. Macy's is really low on my list
I'm influenced very little by how many *other* people want to live here. In fact, I tend to go where the people ain't, even on vacations. All I care about is what I love and what I want outside of my window when I look out it. I was born and raised in WV and to this day can still have my breath taken away when driving down the road and taking in the scenery. Folks here are nice and we get a bad rap (mainly here in southern WV) for being dumb hillbillies. I know a few, for sure, but just as
with any sweeping generalization, that mindset reflects more ignorance on the one doing the pointing than the ones getting pointed at. It ain't all pretty. I know that. But I'd rather be a West Virginia Wildflower than to have grown up in the way that I see kids growing up in Laguna Beach (thank you, MTV). They may have plenty of things, but I'm glad to get something a little deeper than that out of life. There are other places on this earth where I'm sure I could feel right at home, but WV
doesn't *feel* like my home; It *is* my home. And I'm a blessed person because of it - Macy's or no Macy's (although I do believe there is a Macy's in Huntington). By the way, just to be clear, I really love Homer Hickam. I've spoken to and met him and he and my dad are acquaintances and he's a class act gentleman and I'm proud to have shared WV soil with him. My comments on the movie don't reflect on him at all. He also looks nothing like he did in the movie, so that part's fake, too.
Lovely voice and awsome tune...I forwarded this to a very good friend and songwriter/music guru in Nashville. (hope you don't mind) I am also buddies with your pal Steve Acord, what a great talent.
Damn Stacy.....you have an excellent voice.... and you are a great songwriter.... and you are from WVA.....Haaaa...... I grew up in Harrison County......Clarksburg.....Thanks so much... Keep it up.....I am a subscriber....
I really liked that one. I probably know how she felt in the song, cause I thought I could go to South Carolina and be happy there, but I got homesick in less than a year, missed my mountains and snow, and packed up just what would fit in my little station wagon and came back on home, leaving it all behind!! Good song I can truly relate too!!! thank you!
I could relate, as well, which is why I was able to write around someone else's concept. However, I could go the rest of my life and never miss seeing another snowflake! Thanks for listening!
