She could not be more wrong concerning differences in races. It is not racist to think some cultures and races are superior to others. It's racist to want to deprive others of their rights under the law. Shit, european cavemen were more advanced than african cavemen. Africans never developed a written language. The American Indian didn't have the wheel when Europeans arrived. Am I not supposed to notice this? PC liberals are either lying to themselves over this issue or they are stupid.
@tomthefunky Claiming you're superior because of your race is the definition of racism. Your examples of the people who have been historically inferior to whites illustrate your own racism. What you're describing as superiority (the wheel) is the development of technology, not innate superiority. You're also dead wrong. Indians did use a wheel, and there are hundreds of African languages.
@DeRz67100 I didn't say African's didn't have different languages. I said they never developed a WRITTEN language. And Indians did not have the wheel. As for claims of superiority being racist, I think it's just an attempt to shut down what is merely an observation. It's one thing to look at the history of mankind and come to the conclusion that some cultures are historically more advanced than others, but it's another when you believe certain people should be treated unfairly. BIG difference.
@tomthefunky Here's a link that answers your assertion about Indians and the wheel: answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070512162153AAaPWQj. And on wikipedia there's an entry about an ancient written African language called Nsibidi, which originated in Nigeria. And the reason people think other people should be treated unfairly, or less equally, is because of such blanket assertions like they didn't know about the wheel, which in the case of Native Americans, isn't true.
@tomthefunky I might also add the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of racism: "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race." So, in fact, it IS racist to think some cultures and races are superior to others.
@DeRz67100: What about social scientists and anthropologists? Are they racists for pointing out some civilizations achievements and others lackthereof? And in the link you gave me, the guy stated Indians did not use the wheel. And some obscure Nigerian written scribbling does not constitute written language. It didn't spread and was so insignificant it's not worth mentioning.
Some races are superior to others just like some people are smarter than others. You need to come to terms with that.
@tomthefunky Already the back pedaling. You said there as never been a written African language. Period. Wrong. And it said Indians didn't use the wheel; they knew of the wheel. They didn't need the wheel the way other societies did. And in closing this tedious argument with you, I refer you again to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition, which you didn't address, and which describes your mindset perfectly.
@DeRz67100: Then where is the literature produced with this "written language"? And if you are going to compare it the English language, than you are bonkers. And the Indians never understood the purpose of the wheel. Since they were nomadic people, I'd say they would have benefited greatly from it. And since we're on the subject, why didn't the Indians ever invent anything better than a canoe? Europeans had enormous ships which could cross oceans. Could it be Indians weren't as advanced?
@tomthefunky All this energy you're expending to prove inferiority and whether or not Native Americans could use, or knew of the wheel, is depressing and cynical and, at the end of the day, pointless. Forget all that: the dictionary definition of racist proves you are one. Argue with the dictionary. Have a great life asserting your racist beliefs and pretending it's discourse.
@DeRz67100:You may find it pointless but I find it interesting. I find history interesting. But it's people like you who accuse people of racism for simply pointing out the differences of cultures. And in fact, it's people like you who are the intolerant ones because you are so afraid of offending people and hurting their feelings. You treat minorities like faberge eggs. It's ridiculous.
@tomthefunky I don't find it interesting at all. I find Fran Lebowitz and Toni Morrsion interesting, I find common bonds between people interesting, much more interesting than pointing out differences.
@DeRz67100: Think of all the things people have built to show the accomplishments (superiority even) of their countries and or cultures. The Empire State Building and Notre Dame Cathedral were designed to show people how advanced their countries were. Rome is an entire city built specifically to tell the world "Look how great we are!" It's entire purpose was to point out the differences between them and the rest of the world.
I find that endlessly fascinating. It's too bad you don't.
@DeRz67100: What grates on me is your immediate assumption that people who do see the world that way are bad people. The anthropologist at the university who loses their job because the PC police don't like the findings they came up with. The comedian in Canada who was fined ten grand for calling a woman a dyke in a bar who was heckling him. People can't breath around people like you.
@tomthefunky There's a very important third variable that you're not considering that is contributing significantly to your comments (which can be called racist). It's called population pressure. Invention is a product of necessity. Essentially Europe had a higher population density and less natural resources. This means you need to find a solution that will help you find resources i.e. big ships, tech, writing for communication, etc. Many cultures didn't have these problems to solve.
@alexandermarkhunt: And the variable that you are not considering is the subject of IQ. If Africans never had the same hardships early Europeans endured, how come they never conquered their own hardships? Where are their irrigation systems to protect them from drought? And Africa has immeasurable natural resources. Why didn't they build their own ships to trade? And if "invention is a product of necessity" How come they never took care of that little problem of theirs called starvation?
@tomthefunky because starvation wasn't a big problem for them and neither was drought in most areas until recent years. In africa's arid climates a family of 4 can usually find enough food to feed themselves year round in a 4 square mile area. All this takes is walking around... not so in Europe. This didn't become a problem for them until the number of people exceeded the number of square miles of arid land, which was well after Europeans. Also they had lots of pot growing wild. Life was good.
@alexandermarkhunt: Now you're being silly. I will agree with you though, where there's lots of pot around, life tends to be better. At least that's the experiences I've had in all the bands I've been in. Less arguments arise. Why is that?

To say "men are really different than women" in such a politically correct era requires bravery. My props to Fran. I'm oficially her fan.
