DSL does generally have bad upload speed and dl speeds, wanna know why? Because its connected through a fucking telephone line. The transfer speeds with a telephone line are shit. My advice? Get cable.

thats not true about dsl. My area offers 12mb download speed. You could get better dsl by shortening all the lines, changing the modem, or get a pots splitter installed instead of those crappy line filters.

I think your getting confused adsl 1 can technically support upto 8meg (downstream) and Adsl 2 can technically support upto 24meg (downstream)

. You school may well have a 100meg connection but this isn't ADSL, the ones I've seen in the UK are 100 meg (100BaseT) that go over a Lan Extension Service (LES) to a local hub normally a library and from there they are taken to the local council/district authorities LAN/WAN/MAN or whatever

You have a better chance with cable ISP. The co-ax cable and system are inherently better able to transmit high freq digital signals because the system was originally designed to carry VHF and UHF TV signals. There are even better types of ISP's but, I don't have that kind of money.

DSL WILL ALWAYS SUCK because it is a clumsy grafting of high freq digital signals over a legacy system originally designed for voice communication (30-3600Hz). Since DSL tends to drop at the slightest hint of atmospheric moisture, the SHF satellite links are also an inherent weakness. It doesn't help that the unlicensed freq bands 2.4GHz and 5GHz are used DESPITE having unique propagation problems BUT they're CHEAP because of no license fees! Too much other crap to cover here...
