Extra tip, if you do this job on a single pillar type tap, gert hold of an Easytapsplitter, see video on here, some tap headgear can be extremely tight and may cause damage to tap, sink or pipework, and turn this "simple" task into a nightmare. Plumbing can be very unpredictable.

Thank you very much for this tip hattie, i had a hot water tap dripping and has been for 3 days today i phoned a plumber who with a discount quoted me £60 to repair. So i thought i'll see if i can do it myself, searched you tube and found you graet i'll have a look you made it look so simple i bough a washer for 20p followed your sooooo simple explanation and saved my self £58.80 :).
