Hey I have been watching your vids for a while now. How are you feeling after being shunt free.. Is it better?? I also have a shunt because I have a cyst in my brain . Doctors also told me I could be shunt free but it'll be risky. Any advise?? Btw you cute
I was only ever shunt free for 3 weeks back in june/july 09 :( my cyst fenestration failed miserably. So have had numerous shunts since.
If you are having problems with your shunt, then I would suggest going for it, however if your shunt is not causing you much trouble, then I would say just hang in there. It is a big op with big risks, much bigger risks than a shunt surgery. And thank you :$ x
HEY. I looooooooooove it when I get anesthesia. When you put the mask on, when you breathed in, did you feel pressure? Life your lungs were being inflated, and it was easier to breathe? What did it feel like?
@deejaydaze It was propofol that was used here too.
Ive never had a bad experience with it, perhaps your pain was caused by a dodgy cannula? Ive had dodgy ones before and when ive had stuff such as fluids and pain relief pushed through them, its really really hurt. :)
@tobybelchy Thank you so much for your reply. I don't think it was. The pain felt more like flowing through my vein, not a poking type of pain. I wasn't looking though. =) Your a brave soul! What did you turn on in the beginning of this vid and why did you lay the bag down? Isn't it supposed to be upright?
This is the best way to go through surgery! When I got my wisdom teeth taken out, they injected it and it was the weirdest feeling in the world. My legs started to feel like they were floating, and it worked its way up to my head. The weirdest thing I have ever gone through but it was so smooth that it didnt even phase me hahaa
Now I know how I went to sleep considering I can't remember a thing about it, I went in hospital with appendicitus on my birthday... Terrible experience isn't it :( well maybe not for you but for me it was horrible.
Im 19 years old. and have two shunts. i have had over 50 surgeries since 2004 and still to this day have problems. Its been a rough road but i have gotten through it. I just had surgery 13 days ago because of a blockage in the right shunt and over drainage .
I had a endoscopy three years ago and they gave me twilight sleep through IV and it was horrible. I had huge chunks of memory just gone, stuff that I was conscious for but don't recall. And when I woke up, it took me almost 20 minutes to become coherent, so when I had to have a revision recently, they gave me a choice and I opted for the mask and I had a much better experience. Also, when I had the mask on, I heard a rushing in my ears and everything got louder. Has anyone had that experience?
@luvATL4ever Yes its very common to get the ringing in your ears - did they give you an IV shot as well or just gas? It does feel good going under with the mask though doesn't it!
This video really gives me the shivers! Those rooms always make me feel like that. Bless ya! I've never actually seen it being done to someone. And I hate those pins n needles! And the quietness as it's about to kick in.
Although I must say the reason behind this video was the fact that, for a number of surgeries beforehand after the propofol had been injected, I would say silly things- there was even a time i confessed my undying love for my doctor (which i had seen once!) lol
Yet I would never remember saying any of this silly stuff. So yeah there would usually come a point where you dont remember whats going on :)
*She is having the shunt replaced next week at GOSH but I just wanted to ask..is there anything your parents have done that have helped you through this illness a little? I know Lily is only 7 months but if this is going to continue, I want it so that the illness lives with her rather than she lives with the illness, I want her to have the best life possible, I hope everything is okay with you?
I am really sorry to bother you but I just wanted to ask a few questions? My daughter is also a patient at GOSH and is 7 months old and was born 12 weeks premature which caused severe bleeding to the brain which in turn caused her to get Hydrocephalus. They inserted a shunt about 4 months ago which helped, but then like you, developed an infection. She went very lifeless, wasn't feeding and had a temperature of about 40 degrees. They removed the Shunt and are replacing it a
It's lovely, yeah! I mean you've kids on the ward that have to stay on the ward for a while and then you get the ones who may never come out, so I am just really grateful:)
Yeah it's not too bad thankyou:) I've gotta go back in later because I'm only on leave :( but I'll live :L aww thankyou!:) sounds like a plan:) I'm actually making a new fb right now! So as soon as I have finished I'll try and add you, is your last name Lucas?:) x
Ahh glad to hear! I've been in and out of hospital lately and hate seeing/hearing other people suffering like you who has been suffering all your life:( So glad Casey's okay, horrible to hear that she was in hospital again but thankful it wasn't to do with her heart, and thankyou for saying you'll have a word with her, also just to say..Jade, you're an inspiration to everyone and I truly hope that you get well soon and you don't suffer at all/as much as you have been, keep smiling
Oh no that sucks :( Sorry to hear that, I hope you're okay at the moment?
Aw thank you so much, really does mean alot <3
If you like and you have fb, I can get in touch and get you in touch with Casey too? We are always fooling about on there like a pair of loonies- so feel free to join in lol x
You put up with waaaaay too much! Hope everything's going okay? Also, I'm not sure if you know but how is Casey..(VideoCrazyBaby)? Casey's stopped putting videos up for updates etc and was just wondering how she is if you know?:) x

Hi, I saw your article in the metro last year and I wondered how things were.
I attended the Hydrocephalus conference in Copenhagen last year and met some interesting people.
I was planning on setting up a group for people with VP shunts but I haven't got round to it yet.

Hey,
For things such as this, no.
Simply because it was an emergency and had to happen there and then.
Whenever there is something wrong with my shunt and it shows obvious symptoms, it will get operated on within hours at my specialist hospital.
However, if it was something such as a Hernia op, then yeah, would be put onto a waiting list for what seems like forever.
Cant be waiting around when theres problems with a shunt :)
