This is not the first time that "Bugs Bunny"was shown in prime time..back in the fall of 1956..WABD TV Ch.5 in NYC aired"The Bugs Bunny Theater"friday nights..with NYC based kids tv wraparound host/performer..Sandy Becker as the series' first mc.
Talk about a most "politically incorrect" type of scene. Having all the characters armed with weapons from sharp blades to guns due to jealousy of Bugs having so much spotlight. This stuff doesn't fly nowadays. Can't beat the classics, right fellas?
@beanielandschool You should know, Lola Bunny didn't become part of the Looney Tunes/ Warner Bros. gang until 1996 when "Space Jam" went into theaters. You just can't beat the classics.
Back in 1960 ,in my opinion ,these where the best cartoons on at the time ., and there were alot of others. I even remember at 8 years old , thinking , they did it right , no limited animation . For some reason i was very critical of cartoons as a child , i guess it was from watching alot of theatrical cartoons, which were well animated.
you must not be a long time fan of the series to "get" the humor in that commercial. it's a running joke...they're all mad because of the things Bugs does in the cartoons. Of course, Bugs isn't in any cartoon featuring Speedy Gonzales, Foghorn Leghorn, and several others but the "angry mob" is a reference to how Bugs tricks his enemies and out-wits them and here he has his own show and they're all jealous. The humor in Warner Brothers cartoons is of acquired taste. I love the cartoons.
O I get it now. At least I could understand some humour. I'm no really a long time fan of this. I don't like LT that much now, time had passed for me.
That was when ABC-TV actually had two logos a t the same time, used interchangeably, the Big "A" logo which was used mainly for station identification and also in still "telop" ads, while the "animated letters" logo was used mainly in promo commercials such as this one. That had lasted until ABC had switched to the long lived familiar "Circle" logo during the 1962-'63 season.
hmmm, I think the rights to Daffy could have been owned by others and therefore wasn't allowed to appear on the ABC show!? If that isn't the case then it's a mystery why Daffy wasn't mentioned...but Bugs didn't mention everyone, several key characters were left off in the promo and Daffy happened to be one of them.
This show aired on ABC, then CBS, then on ABC again, 1960-2000.
My guess for who directed this: Ken Harris or Abe Levitow. I'm leaning towards Harris. It might have been animated by Willie Ito, who was an assistant of Ken's from 1953-1960 or so. A lot of the poses and attitudes are like what Harris would do, but it's very limited animation. Ken had a tendency to do full animation on everything despite the austerity of the 60's Warner animation.
I think that they had waited until the following season(which would of been the second one for that show) to include him on the Bugs Bunny Show, on ABC-TV. There's another video on here with the 1961 promo which does include him, it's titled: "the bugs bunny show-another promo".
Wow, that's a rare one. I wonder who directed it... could it have been Rudy Larriva? That pose of the Coyote in the mob scene looks like one of Larriva's from the later (lamentable) Road Runner shorts by Format Films. Or maybe Gerry Chiniquy directed it, who sometimes subbed for Friz. The Bugs poses look like they could be his. Seems too low budget for Freleng or Jones, but who knows? I do love Bugs' smile at the end.
At :50, a live ABC announcer usually added, "See 'THE BUGS BUNNY SHOW', Tuesday night {or "Tonight"} at 7:30, 6:30 Central Time, over most of these stations". This promo originally aired during other ABC shows (mostly in daytime) during the 1960-'61season.

No Daffy,Porky,Taz,Marvin or Foghorn?

While the promo was in black-and-white, the intros/outros and the cartoons were in color, and would (after 1962 or 1963) air on the network in color.
For the first two or three years, "Bugs Bunny" actually ran in prime-time (I think it was Tuesdays, 7:30-8 P.M. ET/PT).

They ommitted all my favourites: Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck, Porky Pigs. They were the bests.

Levitow was working for UPA at the time this was produced (on the "MR. MAGOO" TV cartoons), so it probably was Ken Harris...
