  • @purrifier It's okay, even though no script folder exists, you download the existing script folder that's in the description and drag it to your tf folder. Wala, you just made a scripts folder!

  • aw you cant do this after applying a decol, do you? :/

  • @MegaVinylshaker No, I'm sorry but you'll have to do it before the process.

  • @jamesbond942 oh, ok. bur thank you

  • HUZZAH!

  • @NBlastMax Huzzah indeed, friend.

  • Worked like a dream, TY!

  • I keep doing what you tell me to do, yet it still keeps coming out all black and white. :/

  • @julio74507 You have to put the file in the scripts/custom_texture_blend_layers/ folder and it HAS to be called flair_template_guide.png (for Flair!) or paper_overlay.png (for all the others). Good luck!

  • This doesn't work for me. I follow everything you do step-by-step and it still gets messed up in the "Team Fortressize" step.

  • @Kyore000 Care to elaborate which step that is? Just point out the time in the video

  • @jamesbond942

The moment you click "Next" at 2:06 and it gets to the "Team Fortressize!" screen, the previews still show brown/white garbage instead of my image.

  • @Kyore000 Are you selecting the correct image? You're supposed to select your edited image that's in the scripts folder, and even then you weren't allowed to alter the dimensions of it. Are you using it on a flair or sign? It doesn't work on a photobadge or clan pride.

  • @jamesbond942 Yeah, I did. Like I said, I followed your instructions exactly. I didn't alter any dimensions and it's still 128x128. I'm using a sign.

  • @jamesbond942 it doesn't work anymore in general, valve fixed this exploit

  • @Predatorvidzz No they did not. I just got a comment 8 hours ago stating that it worked.

  • @jamesbond942 it is what I did, followed your guide flawlessly, it didn't work. Says enough for me.

  • @Predatorvidzz You're probably doing something wrong. Look what ShikogoFox said, it also worked for Kyore000 after he restarted his computer, it seems.

  • @jamesbond942 Ah, wait wait...I just restarted my computer and it seems to have worked. I guess my crappy PC just has issues or something. Thanks, man!

  • Worked for me, Thanks!

P.S. If you want to make separate pictures on each button, go to image, image size, resize the picture that you want to add to about .87 (make sure length and width are VERY close), set resolution to 300, and then drag the picture into the window that currently holds this picture (before this, they should be in two separate Photoshop windows). You may want to resize it by going to image, transform, scale.

Remember: The ends and corners get cut off of the button!

  • @SpitShineT0mmy Did you do this longer than three days ago? because I have tried this, and I don't have a scripts folder.

  • @1objection If you don't have a scripts folder, make one yourself.

  • @jamesbond942 I think I love you, thanks for the advice! I can't believe it was that simple!

  • @1objection Yep, you're welcome!

  • @1objection Yeah, have fun with your new sign! Or, er, flair

  • Had a bit of a problem uploading the image, I did everything instructed, but when I try to choose the file , it gives me an error and says the file was corrupt. Anything you might know on this?

  • does this work if you use paint?

  • @elwilko Yeah, because in reality the transparency doesn't show up on the flair. So go ahead.

  • Nice Skyward Sword wallpaper

  • Also, at about 2:32 you said that if the squares turn blue, you press the delete button to

make them checkered grey, which delete button do you mean?

the only one I see is the one to delete the layer.

  • @carlospicywiener721 The one on your keyboard.

  • I have one question, how do you select the entire image when you use image select?

  • For some reason, my decal tool won't work on the objector. I did everything you said in the video, but it keeps saying "Failed to upload decal tool on item. Please try again later." even though my friend put his on the flair just fine.

  • Im offering to do this for you pm or friend me on steam /id/agreenclifford/

we will work out a deal

  • @Skorpaknok Stop commenting on my videos attempting a scam on decal tools. Blocked.

  • Thanks alot. By the way, I couldn't get the flair to work, so I increased brightness from 0 to 25 in Photoshop so the color filter wouldn't mess it up, and then, I used the in-game palette to darken it up again. Worked like a charm :)

  • Does this work with GIMP? I don't have photoshop.

  • @WarpiG4ever Yes it does, me myself I'm not using photoshop in the video.

  • doesn't seem to work for me, I did everything exactly as you said but it will still have a colour limit in the preview.

  • @otmeek Three things could be the problem.

You didn't use the good image/put it in the correct folder, you edited the dimensions/renamed it or you're using a clan pride or a photo badge.

  • Still the gradient. Do you think this worked because you had a picture with only 4 colors? Also, have you confirmed that the image looks the same from your perspective as it does to others on a server?

  • @boss1001 Works with all colors. Yes I have confirmed it, or else I wouldn't have made this tutorial.

  • Could you please make a text step by step guide? My Paint.net version is 3.5.10 and the "magic wand" isnt working like yours is, for example when i click on the Flair layout it only turns a light blue and not the checkered grey. So if possible could you do a step by step word tutorial for the current version of paint.net 3.5.10? and when I go to add the over lay image it comes up in a new little window in the top right corner.

  • @TheThunderwand It always turns light blue when you click on a white square, however pressing the delete button afterwards is what's making it transparant (AKA checkered gray). It also comes up in a new window in the top right corner for me, that's when you select the image and copy paste it onto the the flair layout image.

  • Worked. Thanks, mate.

  • Can you please make a video showing how this script works for Flair actually using 4 separate images? I've tried 5x using GIMP and every time I preview the decal it is *not* in full color, but affected by forced gradients.

    Step 1.) Open .png

Step 2.) Add transparency layer and make it BG

Step 3.) Open separate images and Copy Visible

    Step 4.) Paste/Resize images

Step 5.) Delete the original layer making it all transparent, save

Result = fail everytime. Tried other methods. No dice.

  • @chaz74332 If your flair is too dark in color then you should brighten them a little, or else the gradient takes over and makes everything darker.

  • I tried this, when i load the image from the file selection it appears normal, but when click 'next' and load it onto the sign it just shows as white. Not sure what i'm doing wrong.

  • Thanks soooo much! It worked <3

  • @MrNoah35757 Woah, calm down now, I mean you seem like a pretty cool guy, but baby steps come first when it's dealing with hearts.

  • Worked, thanks.

  • Is this patched now?.. I cant seem to get it to work for me

  • @killaDandM Nope, it still works. Can you tell me what doesn't work?

  • @jamesbond942 maybe its because im trying to use it on a photo badge?

  • @killaDandM Photobadge and Clan Pride don't have a fix. I'm sorry

  • This was VERY useful, I had thought about getting a decal/objector for some time after browsing through the decal thread in Facepunch. Frankly right after the update, I applied decals without edit right onto my flairs, but hey, live and learn. Thanks so much again for the useful How-to!

  • 1:00 Nigger.png Nice...

  • the only reason im skeptical is the demo pic youre using would look the same with the shitty filters anyway. you should have used a more colorful pic

  • @PANDEAD2 No, it wouldn't look exactly the same, his blue body and orange-like stripes would get drastically changed, due to only being black, gray, white and yellow-ish colors available, so this really proves it!

  • BALROG :D

  • Both dislikes are from bitter people who already used their Decal Tools before seeing this video

  • @ultimateluigi9878 Nah they're from my friends as a joke

  • do i need paint.net for this?

  • @killermoomin Any image editor will work!

  • I got the decal tool through trading yesterday and was devastated when I found out the painterly option had been removed. This video, however, has given me new hope. Thank you!

  • Out of curiousity, will this work with an animated gif image for the Objector?

  • @MylosPlaysGames Animated gifs do not work.

  • Sooo...you haven't been banned or gotten in any trouble with this, have you? This sounds like something I'd want to try, but I don't want to risk getting in trouble. >_<

  • @TheAverageGuyTAG Don't worry, I doubt Valve would punish the hundreds of people who've done this, and if they did then I don't see why people who used it when painterly was out didn't get it removed.

  • @jamesbond942

    *phew*

That makes me feel a bit more at ease.

  • Confirmed 100%, AAA+ Script, Would have sex with author of this tutorial.

  • @RagingAngus I'll do it!

  • Thanks, it worked. ^^

  • thanks you very much man, this really work :D

  • That helped me so much thank you

  • this would only be visible to you, am i right?

  • @GauzeMann No, visible to everyone.

  • @jamesbond942

Are you sure about this? I don't see how this could be possible if you're just manipulating your local files.

  • @spudlyff8fan Believe me, it works. Don't ask how, but it does. You can confirm it with a friend.

  • but does it appear in full-color to other people? or only you (locally) can observe it to be colored

  • @LanceTroiden Everybody can see the full color.

  • @jamesbond942 cool, thanks for tutorial

  • THANKS ALOT MAN!!!

  • i need this for clan pride how do?

  • @MisterKatzy Clan pride and photobadge don't have the base textures like flair and objector, so it's not possible.

  • for some reason this did not work for me . i used 4 different pictures using the flair template from the tf2 wiki got them in place and everything but when i tried to apply ingame i didnt appear in colour

  • @RobNels54 You're not supposed to use the tf2 wiki template. You're supposed to use the template in the script.

  • @jamesbond942 no i mean i made my picture first using the template then used the script template and got it into position

  • @RobNels54 Ok i got it to work thanks alot :). i dnt know what i did differently but it seems to work now. Thanks :)

  • Any clues on why others cannot see my decal? Can we join a server and tell me if you can see mine on objector?

  • @Sjrust Sure. Can you send me your steam page?

  • @Sjrust Never mind, seems that it's problem with some servers, true?

  • @Sjrust Might be.

  • Tried it, and it works. This really deserves alot more views...

  • @PS11833 Hey, thanks. The views are racking up little by little, but it's more than my other pointless videos.

  • @jamesbond942 You know, I just noticed that this method doesn't seem to work on the Photo Badge. Any suggestions for that?

  • @PS11833 I'm sorry, these is no way to bypass the photobadge or clan pride. They don't have base textures like the objector and flair do.

  • Can you confirm is not just client and others see it?

  • @Sjrust Yes, I've told my friend about the workaround. She tried it, and I can see it fully colored. If you get the chance, ask someone to check yours out after you've applied it.
