Yes, you can use full range of OPTICAL zoom and with perfect sound recording (without lens movement noise)

I emphasize optical zoom because not many camera can do it.

From everything I've heard, its the best for low light shots, but just good for other shots (sunny day, etc). Can anyone recommend this over the Panasonic Lumix TS1? It takes great shots and is also shock and water proof. If only it could take panorama shots. That is the coolest feature, works well!

I bought two and BOTH were returned to Sony (first one and then, the other).

Why?

Because they are Automatic ONLY.

No matter what are you trying to do when taking a picture.

This Cybershot will take photos withs standard settings and there's no way to change that.

Even selecting a different "Scene" mode is useless (the Camera replaces that with it's own settings!!!).

Without MANUAL MODE, this Cybershot turns itself into a TOY.

This is the first time I return a product (TWO to be honest).

The WX1 has better lenses and Zoom.

Both (WX1 and TX1) are Automatic only.

No Manual Exposure at all.

@87STEELE Yes you can (most other cameras can't and some others that can allow only digital zoom. The WX1 allows you to use full range of optical zoom in VDO mode.

Yes... zooming while in VDO mode is great. It's smoother than in still shot mode.

It's full range optical zoom.

That's why I still have to carry two things around.

i do not know.

the point i was trying to make is that panorama mode is not that special. i even agreed that the wuality of the cameras were incredible. but i just wanted to say that even cellphones (which dont have as good as picture quality) have panorama mode.

if u really want a decent camera phone, sony has a bunch of 12.1MP phones, and the picture quality is quite good

Oh how can you compare two camera of different category. It's not fair.

I have both TZ7 and WX1. Both are good but one is better in some points and the other is better in others. Howvever, if I had to choose to keep only one, I would rather pick the WX1. It's perfect for someone who carries a camera everywhere all the time like me.

Wow that stich function is realy cewl and secure

But I dont realy like the sony camera. Theire is to mutch , lens distortion going on (look on the box the lines go to the midel) And also the pitcture is a bit to blue, after white balance. (if you want to test a good compact test one of the powershot G series, They got also good lux and hd Filming.)

It's a big difference with and without zooming.

With WX1 you can zoom with full range of optical zoom and without any audio noise from the lens movement.

How did you do this review technically? I'm still bending my head on the fact how you can show the menu, interchange between photo and movie shooting, while narrating.

Will the panorma also stich multilevels. You currently demo one horizontal panorama layer, but can it also stich one layer above and below, so you get a bigger panorama picture?

Always good when you get no artifacts without a flash - that's one of the biggest issues with most modern digital cameras - people should always be careful when working with them. Good review :) Good idea doing a screen capture of the video output of the camera too - very clever.
