Just a small note to all you non truckers. I was taught and so was nearly every other driver i work with taught if its too late to stop for something like that in a rig its safer not too. Yes there are ways that rule is swayed what ever. From what i can see in the video that drivers stil going to fast for that piece of road way. Whats with the shout threw his window then drive away? LOL
@volvoknightoftheroad You need to revisit your training mate, you must always be able able to stop safely within the distance you can see to be clear. The lights were blatantly on RED before the truck was there, the bike had time to stop and he was there first, The highway code says you must stop at an amber light unless there is a vehicle so close to you that it would be dangerous to do so. The truck driver was lucky he didn't kill the pedestrian!!
Not too impressed that the rider just shouted and immediately ran away after catching up. I would have waited for a response, and I'd have been tempted to sit in front of his cab until I got one I found acceptable.
Prolly no point stopping, he's said his peice (and I have done the same with drivers, even cyclists, like that). If anything he could have had a word with one of the local bobbies or the firm involved.
In a HGV I'm told that can be 6 points and a loss of a job if the company see it. There again if he's a one-man op then that wont count :-)
not for a big heavy rig. that's why there is yellow light . the yellow light is not for cars to speed up, but for cars that can't stop safely on red, they better pass. now if he is over the speed, or pressed on then I think he takes the blame.
There appears was a full 4 seconds into the video before the red, and if he followed atleast the 2 second rule behind the biker I think there should have been time to stop.
However looking at the video it seems perhaps he might have been too close to the biker from the view in the mirror.
I've seen big rigs stop on 4-5 seconds from 30, most dont do that around cities I notice.
Yes a very stupid lorry driver but what gave you the right to ride at that speed to catch the lorry driver, so I think you were both dangerous.

Would that hold up in court when you're being done for Sec1:Death by Dangerous Driving? I think not...

Its true what they say they think they own the road .
Bring him to book and ban him from the roads and never allow him to drive these vehicles ever again .

That's just awful driving by that lorry driver. Homicidal even, there's no excuse bar stupidity and reckless impatience, IMO.

Maybe there wasn't time for him to stop safely. even you on much lighter vehicle barely stopped on red.

Theres always time to stop if you're concentrating. And if he wasnt concentrating he shouldnt have been driving.
