they were testing this at the weekend with busch gardens employees and this seems to be pretty much the speed it was running at... i hope they speed it up otherwise this coaster is going to be a let-down
@lol0924: Sorry for double posting because I have a few things to add what I feel for this attraction. I noticed as in the turnaround part, there clearly was a LOT of beams still undone. I'm gonna have a feeling like some head choppers or decorations will come up there!
ive never seen a coaster test at such increasingly gradual levels.
i mean accelerators test gradually with an increasing launch but within a matter of hours. Its weird seeing how theyve tested this firstly not at 100 percent and in each section over 3 days and after 5 days or so of testing not running at 100 percent just letting it run the course. I guess they want to make sure it runs perfectly and that there are no problems. good with me :)
First off, remember that the three launches were advertised at 30, 40, and 60 mph (though I wish the 60 mph was actually 75 mph, just as fast as a real cheetah.) The first two launches are as if the ride was a Zamperla Moto Coaster or something. Second, you know those "surf curves" in the middle of the ride? (The trick-track like stuff.) You have to remember that it can only go so fast around them due to the fact that they are pretty small.
1: The three launches are 30, 40, and 60 mph. The first two launches, especially the first, are quite slow. Part of me is thinking that part of this ride will really be that slow.
2: Remember the trick track/surf curves half way through the ride? That element is pretty small, so obviously the launch directly preceding it is bound to go at a certain speed to accomodate that element's size to produce acceptable (read: safe) G's.
@Tanks4meSTC There is no way that the first launch will remain that slow. The crest of that fan curve is showing the train crawl through it as low as what seems 7 mph. The fact that the train appears to be banked 40 degrees to the left at that moment suggests that the intended speed will be around 20 - 25mph at the crest. Intamin usually designs track work with zero lateral acceleration outside of heartline rolls. At that speed, the fan curve is producing leftward laterals. It will go faster.
@rollercoasterfan97 The issue is not the launching mechanisms but rather the high degree of train articulation. The fast banking transitions in the course can permanently strain the car joints if not broken in at slower speeds. This type of slower test runs was also seen on Maverick at cedar point prior to full speed tests.
@kceovaisnt ohhhhhhh, so hopefully we will see full power test runs soon?
now that i think about it i do actually remember maverick having that probably with some of those turns, stengel dives and barrel rolls. that does make sense i guess. they open in one week though i wouldve thought testing would have been at full power already. I wouldve assumed that with a triple launch intamin coaster you could get plenty of problems so this was just the park being cautious wanting the ride to run well?
FML i moved from tampa to cincinnati the week this was opening
