I saw a video of another guy in Jersey that was setting up a new hive and he took the side off the box after smoking them lightly. Seemed like a little more effective way of doing it than this

3# package - about 30,000 bees give or take a few.

Incorrect. There is about 3,000 bees in 1 pound of bees. So 3 pounds will be 9,000 bees.

Next time douse the bees with sugar water so they can't fly and they stick together. This allows you to get them all in quickly and easily. They will clean themselves off by morning and be ready to forage.

Well... since then we found a better way to get the bees out of the box. Opening up the side panel allows the bees to fall out rather than pounding the box!
