This is amazing stuff to finally just discover from one of my favorite singers--who knew she could even speak spanish? Beautiful language. And with these Poncho guys, wow! What would you call this, a Mexican Folk balad? Wonderful.
@Chrmngblly it's call a "Bolero"; It's not really Mexican, boleros are Cuban folk balads but Mexican musicians in the early 20's change the style and the tempo and make it sound more romantic.
These songs are the favorite one to the "Serenate".
@Chrmngblly It's not a Mexican balad but a bolero. The composer, Pedrito Junco, was Cuban and died of TB when he was 24 years old in the 1940's. This song made him famous and according to some it was dedicated to the love of his life when he was already sick and knew that his end was coming.
@Chrmngblly It's called "Bolero". It's not a mexican folk balad. It is a Cuban version from Spanish Bolero, and spread to latin america. "The Cuban bolero traveled to Mexico and the rest of Latin America after its conception, where it became part of their repertoires. Some of the bolero's leading composers have come from nearby countries, most especially the prolific Puerto Rican composer Rafael Hernández; another example is Mexico's Agustín Lara." Wikipedia said.
this song still makes my heart ache after so many years/so many years and when i hear this song i remember my first love just like if it was yesterday/the day she left me i must have played this song 1000 that week. And now that time has passed i have once again been able to contact her and we have become friends/her health is not the best/she as like myself have endured many happy times and trajic times/she is still lovely as then

Although I grew up in So. Cal and am of Mexican decent, I do not speak Spanish, but I gotta tell you, I grew up with this music and it stirs my soul every time I listen to it. So many of the songs from my childhood, they remind me of wonderful times. I have this particular album and have memorized all the songs, I have heard them so often! ENJOY!!
@elnopalmascubano Cool! Music is a Spiritual experience, for me. It takes me places nothing else can. I especially enjoy the Marichi Music. While my Spanish is limited, I feel the passion of their Music.

I thought this was a Cuban song. Radio Rebelde in Havana plays it every night on their old Cuban music show.

@Chrmngblly It is not "Poncho". They are called LOS PANCHOS, as Pancho is a pet name for Jose.
