Dr. Phil wants a way to reach a point of understanding between the two sides. Well, here it is: bridge the gap by recognizing that you know a gay person. They aren't some alien force that you are not familiar with. They are your cousins, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and family. If you think you don't know a gay person, you're wrong. Think of the ones you love and care for, and ask yourself whether you can say of them what you say of "the gays". Can you deny them their equality?

and for the sanctimonious "it's all about the children" crap, bullshit! Kids that are raised in loving homes do fine, whatever the gender of their parents. I would go as far as to say that a child from a stable family with 2 loving dad's or mom's, is brought up a lot healthier and happier then a child from a broken home with two straight parents fighting over visitation rights.

It gets to me that the debate seems to be about whether being gay is a choice or not. I like both men and women, and I've always known this, but I never try to argue that I was born this way because it gives some legitimacy to their conviction that it matters at all. My response is to say 'I don't believe I chose it, but even if I did it would still not justify your bigotry.' I wish more would point out that if being gay has no apparent biological basis, that does not make homophobia okay.

I still don't understand how the black community gets upset when people compare Gay Rights with Civil Rights. Gay rights started at the same time. Gay people have been killed, beaten, and tortured for being gay. What is marriage really? It is a ceremony conducted of 2 people to make commitments and vows to each other to go beyond just being lovers or friends, and become family. 5000 years of biblical history, I don't buy it. 1. Because I am not christian 2. Because as free as you are to be any religion you want, people are free not to be apart of it and they should not miss out on the right to be recognized as a legitimate family because of it.

If the will of the people had been held up in the 1960's, my parents wouldn't have been allowed to get married. I fail to see how this is any different. The arguments are exactly the same. Marriage was a core civil right in 1967 and it still is. This is discrimination. Plain and simple.
