It's annoying how the way the system works is always explained in conspiracy-like movies with a mysterious tune on the background. This is just how the system works, it's in every economics schoolbook, and it works pretty well most of the time. At least better than any other system. It has worked in the western world from 1600 till now, despite the credit crunch it pretty much keeps on working well.

Yes the usury laws went away when

regan was pres, it used to be that an interest rate over 10% was against the law, now there are interest rates of 99%

Usury was redefined as being an excessive amount of interest ..what use to be usury is now common practice since the laws were relaxed to allow massive interest rates many times the principal amount.. credit card interest rates are an example of what use to be called usury ..pawn shop and pay day loans charge massive interest rates..
