@DatDamnCat You should check again! He was married before June and had kids with his first wife. June had a child with her first husband too, but she was already divorced when she met Johnny.

he did win. who can tell me what happened to taylor hicks???? hmmmm.. don' worry i'll wait.................bet you can't. America picked him for hi goofiness.
@TheDesertsItalian He didn't ruin it.. Read below this version was created before Daughtry did it apparently.. People say the band 'Live' sang the song like that.. So he didn't ruin it... If anything he made it better.
The song was also recorded by the band Live for the 2001 Sun Records tribute album Good Rockin' Tonight: The Legacy of Sun Records. The song is also featured on Live's greatest hits album Awake: The Best of Live.
Why does Chris get so much credit for his outstanding interpretation of this song when he clearly is singing Live's version to the tee. Shame on Simon and Randy for crediting him for ripping off a copy-righted version/arrangement. lucky for Chris Live didn't make a fuss over it and they helped him get a recording contract.
@itcaligirl He gets so much credit because he can sing good.. He's a hell of a singer. The band 'Live' isn't on American Idol and they must not be very known because I've never heard of them.. I live in a small town though could be a good reason.. But still he gets the credit because he's an excellent singer.. He wasn't stealing anyones songs or breaking copy rights.. American Idol buys the rights to use songs on the show.. I'm sure Live got money out of it.
@FroobRadio What part was that? At 56 seconds into this video, he talks about how Manilow is trying to help them "make sure they arranged these songs the best they could to make them current and try to bring the best out of a song that they probably normally wouldn't do"....then Simon goes further and congratulates him on making it (the song) his own version and further states that he (Chris) has refused to compromise......Chris took all that credit.....and I watched him do that in shock!!!!
@FroobRadio Uhmmmm, welllllll, a.) taking credit for work that is not your own is just morally wrong, but in this case, when he was being judged in a competition based on the contestants ability to take a piece of music that was the antithesis of their style and arrange it to such degree that they literally reinvent it, well, that makes him a no-talent hack!! Which is actually unfortunate, because I liked him until I saw this show. One more thing, please purchase Throwing Copper like NOW!!!
@FroobRadio I don't know why I am so pissy about this...I guess because I love what Ed Kowalczyk did with this song almost 10 years ago. You ought to give it a listen...his intensity is matchless!!
@iStevie Chris Daughtry said in subsequent interviews that he mentioned Live a couple of times & it just hit the editing floor. If you listen to him say "we're gonna try something a little different" it sounds like he's getting cut off, rather than ending a sentence. I think that cut-off is where he mentioned Live & it got cut.
he does it beautifully in the beginning but i dont know what the hell happens after the chorus. It all becomes too confusing and instruments sound off-key
Ever since that year, Chris has made AI never the again. Nobody can compare Chris to ANY AI winner. He is the only one I think that has gone the farthest and is the most popular.
Yeah, Randy was a wet blanket. This was one of the best performances in the history of the show. Barry Manilow said it best, "You don't need me, baby! You got it!"
Yeah, this performance had such a strong impact at the time. A total home run. He grabbed the mic at the exact right instant too and went for the high energy finish unconstrained by the mic stand. That added to it. Another classic that had a similar strong impact on the audience, for comparison, I think, was when the beatboxer Blake Lewis did "You give love a bad name" the following year.
the main hook of the song is Lives however chris made it his own by going up the music scale. Live didn't do that. Its chris's pure talent and voice that makes this song his own. On Lives best day they wouldn't sound half as good as this
Ohne das Original zu verschandeln ist hier eine super geile Version zu hören welche ihresgleichen sucht. Hätte nicht gedacht das es möglich ist. Super geile Stimme, aber auch sehr gut arrangiert (musikalisch)
On season five of American Idol, finalist Chris Daughtry was accused of performing Live's rendition of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" and calling it his own interpretation of the original. One week later, Daughtry acknowledged it was not his own rendition, even saying Live was one of his favorite bands. In May 2006, Live appeared on The Howard Stern Show and addressed this issue
Bo Bice didn't compromize, did he? There is a reason for everything. Chris was not meant to win. Maybe to show the world that you can "lose", and still win. Rise from what appears to be ashes and exceed the odds. Chris has done that. Who knows why he didn't connect? I certainly thought he would win and was pulling for him. I thought that Taylor did a good job of establishing a gimmick that voters latched onto, but Chris & Katarine were always the vocal standouts that year. Best of Luck to Chis.
I think it's a good thing that he didn't win. That way he didn't get stuck with whatever record deal American Idol would have made him sign. He was free to do whatever he wanted.
I totally agree... They allow no artistic freedom with their winners. And he's a true artist, and I'm sure anything they would ahve done with him would have been lame.
he WANTED to be kicked off. That's what he said in an interview. He didn't want to conform to the American Idol contracts of what he would have to do. He got exposure and that's all he needed.
It was a blessing for him that he was kicked off the show, because if you win you have to make the records that they tell you to and they would have done to him the same thing they done to Bo Bice and try to turn him into a Pop Idol and Bo only came in in second place. Why do you think Taylor hasn't done well, it's because he is under contract with them and has to make the records they tell him to not the ones he wants to make. So I am happy that Chris didn't win, he can call the shots now.
Greatest American Idol contestant ever. My only problem with his is that he is just too sexy, I can't look at him for more than about 3 minutes at a time because I go a little nuts. Thanks for posting!
Well its just as bad that he IS into chicks for me. I'm a girl, but I have no chance because hes married.... the video of his american idol audition is soooo sweet. He has a wife and takes care of her kids from her ex.
I miss drunk Paula. :-(

But then almost every participant on Idol's just a no-talent-hack, because they all just copied the songs; not a lot of them made it their own.
