@equallyeasilyfuqyou they can breathe air and water. they only need water to stay wet. u can put one in a pond with other fish and if the pond looses all of its oxygen and the fish suffocate, the alligator gar will be the only one left and it will be just fine. plus it will eat the other dead fish. alive or dead it dosent matter to them.

There are fishs of this kind that are actually the size of small person, a little bit smaller than the pirarucu...

They're one of the most agressive river fishes I've seen.

They're actually larger than a small person. I live a few hundred yards from the brazos river, and we routinely see 6 and 7 ft gator gar rolling in the water during the summer months. They can reach up to 10 ft and weigh around 400 lbs.

That's definitely larger than a small person.

If they were that aggressive. There are no documented accounts of one attacking people. Granted there are a lot of stories, but nothing that's been proven. Most of the time they're after fish, and they're smart enough to know the difference between a person and a fish. Since they've started heavily fishing them, in the last 30 years, the majority of them are only around 7 ft or so and about 150 lbs. Still a MASSIVE fish though.

i was swimming in crystal river at a manatee tour when i saw a HUGE one of these...i looked down...and i was staring straight into its giant mouth!!it wasnt even moving it was looking straight up at me with its mouth wide open.but they eat fish..thats why people are allowed to go in that river cuz theres never been an attack (thats what i heard) ^_^

I HATE gars...all of them are freakin scary and keep me out of the water. You have more of a chance of coming across one of those than a shark in the ocean...ugh! My friends tease me when we go to the lake. I have a yellow swimsuit (neon two piece lol) and a neon orange lifejacket that COULD look yellow in the water. (Gars are attracted to yellow) So my friends tease me everytime we go swimming in the lake, ocean, or river lol. It sucks...

Down at lake Fort Phantom (Abilene Texas) they are considered pests so it's not unusual to see their dead carcasses all along the shore. As for eating them, the birds won't even touch a dead one... just food for the ants. But it is fun to step on them as you get a very satisfying boney crunch. ^-^
