Would this be a good choice for my first set of powerful plug-ins (like a few EQs, compressors, limiters, tape saturators and more)? I've been trying out countless plug-ins (don't ask me how) and feel I have to settle on something sometime. Could UAD-2 be for me (since I haven't been able to try a few out)? I'll be running through more than one DAW too (I hope to end up with Pro Tools in the end).
@DuskY1991 Yes, the UAD-2 is an ideal set of plug-ins, particularly if you get a Flexi Pack version since that'll give you some extra plug-ins to play around with. You'll find that the UAD-2 plug-ins make it easier to get great sounds quickly. The UAD-2 works well with Pro Tools now.
@JRRShop Thanks for the reply. I tend to like very transparent processing, as well as colored in ways. The UAD-2 includes the popular Cambridge EQ and LA-2A compressor, is that correct? Or are those included in the downloadable package on the UA website?
@DuskY1991 The LA2A and the EX-1 EQ/Compressor are included but not the Cambridge. The EX-1 and Cambridge sound similar to one another, you just get more options with the Cambridge. The good thing is that you also get the 1176LN compressor and Pultec EQ so you'll have a good range of both transparent and color processors available to you.
@unescapablex yeah cos pcs are loads better than macs for making music now aren't they, that's why i see them in every studio, and why they pissed me off until i bought a mac myself ,,, problem solved
@Rrrrobbo Well, if you consider the flexibility of the hardware that "PC"s offer, you have a lot more options than what a mac can do. I mean unless your running Propellerhead Reason or something like it, sure, a mac will do. I'm not dissing MACs, I think their great for posers, but besides that, they are rather rad. Still, the custom x64 dual quadcore I build handles 16Ggs of memory, and my 5 Terabyte Raid drives handle rather well most anything I throw at them at 10000 RPM.
What a tremendous dissapointment. Again no firewirecompetible UAD cards??? What a missed chance, so many people out there using macbooks and Imacs, restricted from using UAD-gear. There is a hole in the dsp-powered plugin markte. How long do we have to wait??
Currently you can run 3 Neve 1081 EQs per UAD-1 card, but each UAD-2 SHARC chip will be able to run 15. Did they specifically optimize the 1081 to run on the SHARC chips to get this 5x performance? Or will all of the old UAD-1 plugs run more efficiently when coded for the SHARC?

@JRRShop Excellent, thanks once again. Is there a full list available of what is included in each package (solo/duo/quad)?

@DuskY1991 Yes, we have all that information on our site. The link is in the video.
