@thelostangolan, Zelaya wanted to get re-elected; his referendum would have changed the law so that HE could get re-elected. It would have replaced congress for a "constituyente"; this is the Chavez formula that has been applied in Bolivia and Ecuador. The constituyente allows for the executive power to dominate everything and eventually soffocate any chance of balance of power.

The election was scheduled before Zelaya was deposed as president. The Hondurans voted for their President, and on his acceptance HE will have to swear that HE would respect and protect the Honduran Constitution. Zelaya tried to destroy the constitution to break the balance of power by force. The Hondurans voted for a president that will stay ONLY for one term and they want to move on.
