How do you keep the ferofluid from staining the sides of the container? I have an engineering project coming up involving ferrofluids and I can't figure out why it isnt staining the sides of the container in this video. Any tips?
yes, i am wondering....are there different types of ferrofluid? oile base, water based? wich one is the one in this video wich can move/free form in liquide (water?) or wich liquid do i have to use in the surrounding container wich is absorbing ferrofluid?
I think that oleic acid is the solution for better ferrofluid. When it is insoluble in water, you can fill up the container with water, and it makes it react awesome. This stuff basically sucks as ferrofluid. You cannot see the magnetic field. It might be better for actual uses(like in high end speakers) but i dunno. I like the spikey stuff!
oleic acid??? is it that what is used in this video? whats that? i mean it says ferrofluid for this video, but how u say it´s reacting different and not mixing up with water, what my ferrofluid does! so i do something wrong or they are different chemicals.
Question! If you completely fill an air-tight cylindrical container with the magnetic fluid, will it react like a normal solid magnet having North and South Poles? How can we achieve it? I want to know please, Thanks.

@TETOYVIENDO at least $125 :( you can make your own with toner and vegatable oil, just type in ferrofluid as a search and look in the first 3 vids

interesting that this water based ferrofluid does not build up into multiple sharp spikes like the oil based ferrofluids do.

i think its super small iron pellets, but dont take my word, im not totally sure

it's kind of like iron pellets really small nanoparticle size iron pellets
however you cant just grind up a block of iron
if you want to find out just search how to make ferrofluid or synthesis of ff
