Is Teri Polo really singing? If she's not the real singer, could someone tell me the name of the soprano who dubbed over her? Thanks! Her voice is just so sweet and soft <3
ah, I think the most touching part of this part of the movie is where Erik holds his hand to his heart happily after hearing her sing from a distance... <333
Oh my god,he is so gorgeous...ERIK, I mean. Not foppish girly douchebag man Raoul/Phillipe. He's so obviously enchanted and touched by her voice, it's amazing to watch. <333
@JeLlIcLeZ does anyone know why they changed the name to phillipe instead of raoul when every other phantom of the opera that i know of the vicomte name is raoul. I mean come on phillipe makes him sound much girler then what he looks like but who know. oh by the way all the way with erik/christine.
@margrette4 I know that in the original Gaston Leroux novel Raoul's older brother's name was Philipe. Why they changed it I have no idea, but it does make him sound even more foppish than usual...
They use music so cleverly in this movie. This aria and Michèle Lagrange's voice are so haunting. It's so cool how they spontaneously made it into a duet.
@rayna181 Christine's character is innocent, hence no makeup. The other women are overly made up, to emphasize their worldliness. And yes, she is a natural beauty.
Wow, nobody noticed that in fact, the both voices are complements for each? Together they sounds perfect. Imagine Christine singing without Carlotta...! It wouldn't be so powerful!
What an astonishing voice. And how sentimental does Eric seems while he is so anxious about his beloved student...He worries about Cristines happyness...Carlotta is just so so funny!
I don't have any period costumes, really, but I wore a dress to the library once and I kept on getting comments like 'nice' and 'you don't see people wearing those often anymore.'
I wish this was in the Webber musical! Christine's voice may be smaller than Carlotta's but she can LAST LONGER and she has a lot more heart and passion..Carlotta sings to show off and Christine really feels the music...she is the better singer! and its nice to see Carlotta realize that and be defeated by her
I have never heard the song in an opera so it must be a French folk song/ballad...the French cafes were full of singers who didnt sing opera but sang popular songs known to the common people
Honestly, if you were to wear that today around town, or even a night out if it weren't a black tie event, you would probably be laughed at, unfortunatly.

Hehe, I think I'm going to do that someday. :)
PhantomInTraining 2 years ago
I do not mind at all, PhantomInTraining. It is mainly historical dancing (appr. 15th-19th C.) but sometimes we are asked only give some "time-feeling" at events, just to be present, that is.
Perhaps the way one is treated also depends upon one's own behaviour and "air". I never feel as I am going to a masquerade, I wear my costumes with pride and try to be as accurate to the period as I possibly can, from head to toe, so to speak.
domramalaja 2 years ago 2
In addition, should anyone laugh, he/she only reveals his/her own ignorance and is not worth taking notice to. As written previously, I have not experienced that wearing my period costumes, but I have with my traditional one (used in folkdancing).
