  • ive just been to see phantom for the first time after seeing the 2004 movie version ,i just had to see the show,i got goosebumps watching this part, the music just gets you,i love it x

  • Seen it live 3 times each better than the last but can you really beat the first experience ?!

  • i sow this on stayg last night

  • I'm sitting at home, eating cereal and watching this in my pajamas, and I'm still getting teary-eyed!

  • WE NEED MORE BOOM!!!! IN THIS

  • One thing I never worked out; is the old woman to the right Madame Giry, Meg, or someone else entirely?

But otherwise this is one of the most spectacular Overtures ever. Seeing it live is indescribable.

  • @spock101010 Is Madame Giry

  • @Chaserpeach

Ok, thanks. She must be getting on a bit though, if you look at how old Raoul is. The Movie also confuses this aspect because she looks like she's barely aged a day between past and "present"

  • @spock101010 I know right?

  • Friday night in Vegas.....the best night ever! The performance was so spectacular that it brought tears to my eyes!

  • its way louder at the actual thing

  • every single production i have seen is purely amazing. i get teary-eyed and wonderful chills from the excitement of the chandelier being lifted and the music blaring! its a shame my theatre teacher didnt like it....:/

    pure amazing :D

  • @DisneyMissieMouse your teacher dont know how to judge that well, she dont know good music i think you are indeed the teacher >,^

  • i seen the phantom of the opera in usa for the us tour back in 2010 it was amazing with the chandelier riseing and with the biggist bang ever to start it

  • Carlottas voice is gorgeous

  • 3:20 / 4:20 i love how they mark the moment really effective :)

  • I AM going to be on this show someday!!!

  • god, this gives me wonderful chills xD

  • whos the auctioneer ?

  • I just realized that 666 is the number of the devil D:

  • @LowellBekker Holy Shit. I knew that but i never made the connection!!!!!

  • @AlcoFan2010 I know right :)

  • @AlcoFan2010 what connection?

  • @jmprater That 666 is the number of the devil and also the lot#for the chandeliere

  • Chills, gasps and this face: D-8- This thing NEVER. GETS. OLD. Also, on another note, Hugh Panaro = God.

  • The Overture is one of my favorite parts of the show. Gives me the chills every single freakin time!!!

  • @camprocker14 me too!

  • i've seen phantom 16 times at last count, but this never loses its magic.

  • it looks just like the vegas one

  • i am going to see this show for the 2nd time in new york this summer! i cant wait! i saw it once and it was amazing! 3rd row :D

  • I saw this 2 weeks ago and my god it was well it left me and my wife speechless the opening was the best opening i have ever seen for a show and i think next time we go to london will see it again as its a show that will never grow old.

Also great video as my parents were wanting to see what i ment by the opening scene. THANK YOU.

  • BTW how does it get its power supply? is it like a batterie in side or do the wires run thru the cabels?

  • I sat right under the chandelier in one performance. =3 My neighbor next to me never saw the show. She said 'i hope it doesn't fall.' I said, 'wait.'

  • Why it is whenever I hear the overture or seeing the chandlier rises up I get the shivers down the spine..?

  • @SkittlesSarahxx I feel the same why! I get teary eyed whenever I see it! I saw this on Broadway (in NYC) yesterday and it was amazing! I think the opening is the best part. =*)

  • Going to the vegas show in 2 weeks. I think I'm in for a treat!!

  • @MrJro2 I saw it yesterday and it was amazing!!!!!!

  • Did Rachel do all the Christine dancing? Generally they enter late, but it didn't look like she did. I know Sarah Brightman did it, as well as Sierra Boggess and Elizabeth Loyacano did for the Vegas version, but I thought that was it.

  • LOVE IT LONDON IS THE BEST EVER

  • Isnt this at Her Majesty's Theater in London's West End ?

  • @WDI2008 Yeah that's Her Majesty's :)

  • u have the best live version of them all amazing love phantom of the opera havent had the funds to go see it but im desperate to c it

  • i was there at the play live yea its amazing!!! They also have a live orcistra

  • god damn perfection.

    The movie sucks !

  • When I went to go see it, my favorite part is the overture...the chandelier...that organ!!!

  • I wont ever forget my FIRST TIME seeing this lol

  • 2:01, ahhh the peaceful Masquerade, ill buy that monkey no matter what the price cost me

  • is this for trade?

  • I was worried that at 5:30, when you'd lower your camera, there would be a pissed off large usher woman giving you a cross glare saying 'what did I say about videos?'

  • which city puts on a better Phantom? Broadway or London? Or is there even a difference?

  • Hmm. The assembling of the chandelier was different when I sawr it last year. It was in several pieces and it was in front of the stage (which kinda made it hard to see) and it was piecing itself back together through the whole overture. 'Twas awesome. xP Literally. I love when Erik hangs off the chan. and that one part when it shakes a bunch when he talks. Then when it falls into the audience and shoots back up. xD

  • @EvanescentWoodNymph The Las Vegas production has the chandelier choreographed to piece together and assemble in it's perch during the overture. Both are spectacular however.

  • @titanicfinatic I know. The Vegas one is the one I saw. I figured that they all did that. I /would/ see it in NYC next spring, but I wanna see LND. And since it took 20 years for Phantom to come to Vegas, I'm not gonna wait to see LND. xD

  • @EvanescentWoodNymph Did they change the choreography of the assemblage. How would you describe the transformation scene in the Vegas production? LDN stands for London or Love Never Dies?

  • @titanicfinatic Love Never Dies. And the beginning had the chandelier kinda sitting over the orchestra pit. It was in three pieces and it was pulled into place during the whole overture. Then after Past the Point of No Return, he yelled "Bring down the chandelier!" Then it fell in the audience and sucked back up into the ceiling, and that was the last of it.

  • Pity you broke copyright law filming the show, even though you were asked NOT do so at the start of the show.

  • i was right in the front row when i saw this...wasnt too fun when the shandelier flahsed but the rest of it was amazing!!!

  • I wonder if that thing has ever fallen for real! :S

  • i was at the POTO in lv theater made for this show loved it the play is wayyyyyy beter

  • This is amazing. I think that no matter where you see the show it is still breathtaking. I prefer Las Vegas' version of the chandelier scenes more because the way the chandelier assembles is amazing. This version still makes me shiver thought. :) thanks for posting.

  • this will never cease to take my breath away. a flawless musical with the most lavish music i've ever heard.

  • Btw, does anyone notice that the chandelier's number is 666 in the auction?

  • Love the music, but I've never seen the stage production. I hope to see it sometime.

  • I saw it this july in London i was amazed by its beauty! I could hear the music from the orchestra and the singing from the actors and when the overture started i seriously cried because of the music and I couldn't control it at all!

  • Are the flashes people's photography or lights?

Do you not have the full show? I'd like to see the Chandelier crash :)

  • I have been a fan of Phantom of the Opera since I was a little girl and I had just seen the stage production on Saturday. I can say, the stage version up-stages the movie versin ten-fold! And though I loved the entire show, my favorite part was when the chandelier went up. To see everyone watching it ascend as the bellowing organs seemed to control your heartbeat was so moving! Absolutely loved it!

  • when i saw this in ca i love it it was good when the chandelier went up everybody in the theater was cheering so loud i was to

  • Thanks for making me feel again this marvelous love!

  • Nothing sends chills up your spine like seeing it live when that chandlier is lit up. I remember jumping when they did it and the organ music along with it just cements it as one of the creepiest yet coolest intros for a show.

  • @crazycat58 OMG SAMMEE HERE MAN! like wen i saw it, the beginning gave me CHILLS down my spines

  • I saw Phantom of the Opera for my 13th birthday on Broadway in New York City( I am now nineteen) I have liked opera music for some reason since I was a kid ( my mom saw the Phantom of the Opera when she was pregnant with me) ...if you are sitting on ground level you really think that chandelier will fall on you as it is being raised.....but it was a great show

  • grr, im so angry! i went to watch this on 29th of May and there was a fucking signal failure at hammersmith so i was stuck at acton town on the piccadilly line for ages and i ended up being 20 minutes late for the show so I missed all this! hopefully i'll be able to go again someday....................................

  • Is there a dvd of the actual stage show?

  • . . . omg. . . i just saw last Tuesday, 27 April in London, Her Majestic Theatre, and i loved that part, Overture.. i´d got chill all over my body.. that play is much better than the movie version, love the movie version, but i like the play version much better... X3

  • Thank you so so much for posting this. I saw this this past summer and was in the 5th row in the dead center. There can never be anything compared to the sensation of being in that seat when the overture is played and the chandler is raises because in that seat it was directly over head. The only thing that could possibly compare is being in it

  • Thank you so much for this video! I totally agree, there is nothing like seeing the chandeliere rise above you coupled with what I believe to be the most powerful overture in all of history. By far, my favorite show!

  • I absolutely love this video! I just saw Phantom a few days ago and it litterally took my breath away... seeing that chandeliere rise about you coupled with the most powerful overture I know can be the most exhilarating thing one can ever see.

  • @heybroitsme21

saw it two days ago on Broadway, I agree 100%

  • i almost cried actually in that part ... :)

  • okkkk .... (heart attack) ... i hadn't seen that part since august 2008 when I saw it in london ... that really brought me happy memories as well ... I remember me trying to breathe while the chandelier was rising over me and this magnificent music was taking over me ... my sister was just speechless (she had no idea of the show until I convinced her to come with me) and was trying to whisper "get out the camera , now !!!!" ... I couldn't move though .... it was REALLY hard .... :'))))

  • i saw it twice and loved it !

  • Oops... something went wrong at 7:17 to 7:20 ;)

  • @JuMiRick what went wrong?

  • thanks for posting this, i've sat directly underneth the chandilier at her majesty's, i know it doesn't fall that fast but when u r under it your heart is in your mouth!!!

this brings back happy memories, thank you.

ps saw love never dies 26th feb, a big let down, which is a shame it could b an amzing show

  • It's as if the chandelier is an actor and taking the show by storm.

  • OMG soooooo suscribing u are great thank u so much for posting this it is my favorite play and my favorite part in the play i have seen it in las vegas and i am only 9!!!!!1

  • I went and saw it in October. This part is one of my favorite parts!! GOOO PHANTOM!!

  • @srduff101

    Oh stuff it.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this musical, I saw it live about a month ago. As soon as the overture started and that chandelier swung up to the top of the Theatre, Phantom of the Opera shot up to number one on my favourite musical list.

I think I'm going to save up some money to see it again =)

  • omg! i went to see this in september in london its amazing isn't it!

    poor phantom :(

  • omg did u film this? where were you sitting?

  • Do you notice people pushing the Chandiler in 4:25, I did not see that when I saw it in NY.

  • They aren't pushing it, they're just helping it along when the tiers first open up. Lots of cables and strands of beads that you dont want getting all tangled. There are also two men who actually catch the chandelier when it crashes, and they sort of grab it, then run forward with it, and slow it down until it touches completely to the floor before the intermission.

  • Seein this Live, Blew my mind, and i was only 11 at the time, Now 13, Im Looking back and Doing a little reasarch, im about to watch the original 1925 Silent film, I Hope its better than the Film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Musical. (I Love The Music. I DONT love Gerard Butler)

  • This footage is amazing...that chandelier looked so close I probably would have tried to reach out and touch it. :x

  • the tour came To Milwaukee and they had studen discounts and sold Students tickets for 20 $ TWO hours prior to show, i got to see it 12 times and sat in the first few rows I feel very blessed and lucky that The theater had that offer other wise id never be able to afford to see it

  • I loved this part so much *____*;; best part, especially the set changing, so smooth and swift..

  • I would gleefully sell my soul to Satan to be a part of that show.

  • I would sell mine a million times! I keep begging my theater teacher to do it! But its good we don't, Phantom is one of those plays you don't want to be brought down by high schoolers! ;-)

  • @foofwolf22 My high school is doing it this year. The first year the rights came out and our stage has the right measurements. I am Monsieur Andre. I can't wait until rehearsals really start going. The music is very challenging. Masquerade and Don Juan Triumphant (before Point of No Return) we looked at first. They are so hard but I'm so excited.

  • @dudeyousuck100 Which state is this production going to be taking place? Just curious because I want to see how mesmerizing and spectacular high school students will produce it.

  • @titanicfinatic Ohio.

Our high school is one of the couple or so in the country or state (don't know the exact statistics) which have a performing center big enough to put it on.

  • @foofwolf22 Me too! I'm going to take opera lessons so I can be in the New York show. CAN'T WAIT!!!

  • the auctioneer is different from the one i saw, this guy almost yells the one i saw had a creepy way of talking

  • went to see this in KC, got tickets as a present and thought it would be boring, after hearing the organ and seeing the chandelier rise over my seat, i fell in love with this play definately going again

  • Hey! I saw it in KC too! It was amazing.

  • i wanted to see it in kc but it was to expensive for me

  • It as 266 for really decent seats for my mom and me in the vegas version.

  • when i wanted to go it was about 400

  • sweet jesus! How good were the seats you were opting for?

  • this is in great quality!! thanks!!!!!! I <3 PHANTOM!!!!!

  • anyone who has seen POTO knows lot 666!

  • Nothing beats hearing those pipes in person and watching that chandelier rise above you. . Blows you out of your seat. Grin ear to ear.

  • this part rocks. i went to see it with my class, and we thought it would be boring, but this part totally changed our minds. The chandelier rising had to be the coolest thing i've seen.

  • @gdmiller5 I love this video but it just doesn't get that feeling that you get in person...

  • that flash in the beginning of the overture... made me blind cause i wasnt expecting it, (when i saw it in real life broadway) i loved this part,,, i think the best part.. nice job... ^^

  • I was expecting it when I saw the show, so it wasn't so much of a shock. What really got me was the flames at the end of Wandering Child - I was in the 3rd row from the stage and I could feel the heat!

  • Omg. I totally know what you mean. I was 18 rows back and it melted my face off. It was intense!

  • omg same! for some reason they didn't do the flames when i went in Feb, i went not long ago and they did, and i was in royal circle 3rd row from the frtong and i could feel the heat too, plus scared the living daylights outa me! i love the show, and i would gladly go over and over again. Such a shame Ramin is leaving though, he's my altime fave phantom.

  • I like these musicals, but why can't they be like those Sweeney Todd videos on YouTube? The musical recorded not by a camera in the audience, but by unseen cameras placed all around the stages.

  • Because Sweeney Todd was Pro-Shot for Television Broadcast, and this wasn't.

  • Bummer.

  • actually it is illegal what the audience members are doing

  • What is better, the play or the movie?

  • stage show by a mile, it's well worth seeing. The movie was really bad by contrast the cast were poor and the story was altered

  • Agreed. I saw the movie first and liked it quite a bit (Emmy's voice is unbelievable) but then after seeing it live I fell completely and totally in love with the show. The movie's changes to the story were all terrible and lame, and the beauty of the scene where "Phantom of the Opera" is sung was completely ruined in the movie.

  • hey can u make a playlist with all the parts of the musical..it would be easier to find... please and thank you...

  • Thanks! I love the movie. I think it is beautiful. I would love to see the stage show.

  • @PHANTOMfan08 I didn't think the movie was that bad, if you know the story of making it.

But, for the full effect and REAL story, you must read the book. Both are crap compared to the book. Just sayin'. :)

  • THE PLAY. I'm seeing it for the 11th time on Wednesday in New York. The movie is great, but it's nothing compared to the live production.

  • I went to see it three days ago in New York. I've never seen it in anyway so I so amazed at it.

  • @Happyperson290 I saw the play in the Pantages theatre in Toronto as a kid...it was goddamn fantastic. I saw the movie too and it was neat to see it in a movie but the singing and the characters and the overall FEEL wasn't there.

For example, there wasn't a giant chandelier being lowered onto the stage from over your head which was just amazing. Actually, the players in the theatre were asked to be in the movie but they turned it down. The christine in the movie was the backup choice =/

  • @Happyperson290 The stage version, absolutely. The movie is entertaining, faithful for the most part and has some striking moments. However, Joel Schumacher often makes some very misguided directorial decisions. The visuals, costumes and sets, while very well done, overshadow the story and music. Casting is all over the place too: Emmy Rossum was great but Gerard Butler and Patrick Wilson were woefully miscast.

  • @hawrnball No, I quite liked Patrick Wilson as Raoul.

  • @Happyperson290 The movie, because the cast puts a hell of a lot more emotion and feeling into the acting and singing. Not to mention that auctioneer doesn't sound stoned in the movie

  • @Happyperson290 Let me tell you, there is NOTHING like seeing this show live. The movie had its few positive aspects, but the stage show blows it out of the water.

  • Is this a full show recording? Is all of it excellent quality?

  • It is full show and this clip is from a compressed (rather crap) copy of the recording. The DVD version is far superior in terms of quality.

  • @PHANTOMfan08 do you have the dvd? or maybe can you sent me this recording...? I don't mind the quality...

  • I saw the phantom at the Venetian, in Las Vegas. Is the best musical I ever seen!

  • i have seen phantom both in vegas and in New york i have to say vegas was better

  • when i went to the poto i got such a fright when the chandelier lit up i accidentally whacked the person sitting next to me lol

  • i wonder how much the chandelier went for in the auction???

  • YOU ARE MY NEW FRIEND.

  • the chandelier almost blinded me when i was there xD it was bright! But so awesome

  • what a brilliant start to a show :D:D gave me goosebumps when I seen it in London :D

  • me too

  • me three! 8D I didn;t expect the angel to come down and Phantom hiding on it o.o;

  • As great as this version is, I wish I could find a version from 2002, I think, when Ted Keegan starred in the U.S. tour. The auctioneer had a horrible, slow, foreboding way of reciting his lines. "Lot..6..6..6.., then... a chan-delier...in piec-es." Creepy, and perfect for accentuating the sinister association between the chandelier and the number.

  • Man, I really love the overture!!!

    :D

I hope that the show soon comes to México

  • Thank you for uploading this. I was only a kid when I attended it here in Hawaii and can hardly remember it at all.

  • Do you have the chandelier crash from this show?

  • i don't sorry, the end of act 1 has been cut off

  • That's fine. I was just asking because I have the show as well and when I realised that I thought maybe I hadn't downloaded all the videos. But it's not there, thanks anyway =D

  • Where do you download?

  • I traded for it with another trader. If you want to trade message me =D

  • there are two shows of matt, one is this one with bits missing and another is full but not as good as this one.

  • Is the chandelier crash good in the other show?

  • 99% sure it is, i'll check

  • Oooh, if it is could we possibly trade for it?

  • it is on there, it's nice quality the sound is slightly distorted on the louder parts and a head in the way at times, nothing major. It is a full show.

  • I heard the Australian version is pretty scary, because the speed is very fast.

  • I love you for posting this. I got to see it in London back in 2006 and am dying to go again! This will help hold me over until then. Thank you!

  • If I didn't know better, I'd say this was professionally shot.

  • It was lol this is the ProShot video of Phantom =D

  • you are perfect, not only your videos but you yourself as well, thank you.
