ive just been to see phantom for the first time after seeing the 2004 movie version ,i just had to see the show,i got goosebumps watching this part, the music just gets you,i love it x
Ok, thanks. She must be getting on a bit though, if you look at how old Raoul is. The Movie also confuses this aspect because she looks like she's barely aged a day between past and "present"
every single production i have seen is purely amazing. i get teary-eyed and wonderful chills from the excitement of the chandelier being lifted and the music blaring! its a shame my theatre teacher didnt like it....:/
i seen the phantom of the opera in usa for the us tour back in 2010 it was amazing with the chandelier riseing and with the biggist bang ever to start it
I saw this 2 weeks ago and my god it was well it left me and my wife speechless the opening was the best opening i have ever seen for a show and i think next time we go to london will see it again as its a show that will never grow old.
Also great video as my parents were wanting to see what i ment by the opening scene. THANK YOU.
@SkittlesSarahxx I feel the same why! I get teary eyed whenever I see it! I saw this on Broadway (in NYC) yesterday and it was amazing! I think the opening is the best part. =*)
Did Rachel do all the Christine dancing? Generally they enter late, but it didn't look like she did. I know Sarah Brightman did it, as well as Sierra Boggess and Elizabeth Loyacano did for the Vegas version, but I thought that was it.
I was worried that at 5:30, when you'd lower your camera, there would be a pissed off large usher woman giving you a cross glare saying 'what did I say about videos?'
Hmm. The assembling of the chandelier was different when I sawr it last year. It was in several pieces and it was in front of the stage (which kinda made it hard to see) and it was piecing itself back together through the whole overture. 'Twas awesome. xP Literally. I love when Erik hangs off the chan. and that one part when it shakes a bunch when he talks. Then when it falls into the audience and shoots back up. xD
@EvanescentWoodNymph The Las Vegas production has the chandelier choreographed to piece together and assemble in it's perch during the overture. Both are spectacular however.
@titanicfinatic I know. The Vegas one is the one I saw. I figured that they all did that. I /would/ see it in NYC next spring, but I wanna see LND. And since it took 20 years for Phantom to come to Vegas, I'm not gonna wait to see LND. xD
@EvanescentWoodNymph Did they change the choreography of the assemblage. How would you describe the transformation scene in the Vegas production? LDN stands for London or Love Never Dies?
@titanicfinatic Love Never Dies. And the beginning had the chandelier kinda sitting over the orchestra pit. It was in three pieces and it was pulled into place during the whole overture. Then after Past the Point of No Return, he yelled "Bring down the chandelier!" Then it fell in the audience and sucked back up into the ceiling, and that was the last of it.
This is amazing. I think that no matter where you see the show it is still breathtaking. I prefer Las Vegas' version of the chandelier scenes more because the way the chandelier assembles is amazing. This version still makes me shiver thought. :) thanks for posting.
I saw it this july in London i was amazed by its beauty! I could hear the music from the orchestra and the singing from the actors and when the overture started i seriously cried because of the music and I couldn't control it at all!
I have been a fan of Phantom of the Opera since I was a little girl and I had just seen the stage production on Saturday. I can say, the stage version up-stages the movie versin ten-fold! And though I loved the entire show, my favorite part was when the chandelier went up. To see everyone watching it ascend as the bellowing organs seemed to control your heartbeat was so moving! Absolutely loved it!
Nothing sends chills up your spine like seeing it live when that chandlier is lit up. I remember jumping when they did it and the organ music along with it just cements it as one of the creepiest yet coolest intros for a show.
I saw Phantom of the Opera for my 13th birthday on Broadway in New York City( I am now nineteen) I have liked opera music for some reason since I was a kid ( my mom saw the Phantom of the Opera when she was pregnant with me) ...if you are sitting on ground level you really think that chandelier will fall on you as it is being raised.....but it was a great show
grr, im so angry! i went to watch this on 29th of May and there was a fucking signal failure at hammersmith so i was stuck at acton town on the piccadilly line for ages and i ended up being 20 minutes late for the show so I missed all this! hopefully i'll be able to go again someday....................................
. . . omg. . . i just saw last Tuesday, 27 April in London, Her Majestic Theatre, and i loved that part, Overture.. i´d got chill all over my body.. that play is much better than the movie version, love the movie version, but i like the play version much better... X3
Thank you so so much for posting this. I saw this this past summer and was in the 5th row in the dead center. There can never be anything compared to the sensation of being in that seat when the overture is played and the chandler is raises because in that seat it was directly over head. The only thing that could possibly compare is being in it
Thank you so much for this video! I totally agree, there is nothing like seeing the chandeliere rise above you coupled with what I believe to be the most powerful overture in all of history. By far, my favorite show!
I absolutely love this video! I just saw Phantom a few days ago and it litterally took my breath away... seeing that chandeliere rise about you coupled with the most powerful overture I know can be the most exhilarating thing one can ever see.
okkkk .... (heart attack) ... i hadn't seen that part since august 2008 when I saw it in london ... that really brought me happy memories as well ... I remember me trying to breathe while the chandelier was rising over me and this magnificent music was taking over me ... my sister was just speechless (she had no idea of the show until I convinced her to come with me) and was trying to whisper "get out the camera , now !!!!" ... I couldn't move though .... it was REALLY hard .... :'))))
thanks for posting this, i've sat directly underneth the chandilier at her majesty's, i know it doesn't fall that fast but when u r under it your heart is in your mouth!!!
this brings back happy memories, thank you.

OMG soooooo suscribing u are great thank u so much for posting this it is my favorite play and my favorite part in the play i have seen it in las vegas and i am only 9!!!!!1
I love this musical, I saw it live about a month ago. As soon as the overture started and that chandelier swung up to the top of the Theatre, Phantom of the Opera shot up to number one on my favourite musical list.
I think I'm going to save up some money to see it again =)
They aren't pushing it, they're just helping it along when the tiers first open up. Lots of cables and strands of beads that you dont want getting all tangled. There are also two men who actually catch the chandelier when it crashes, and they sort of grab it, then run forward with it, and slow it down until it touches completely to the floor before the intermission.
Seein this Live, Blew my mind, and i was only 11 at the time, Now 13, Im Looking back and Doing a little reasarch, im about to watch the original 1925 Silent film, I Hope its better than the Film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Musical. (I Love The Music. I DONT love Gerard Butler)
the tour came To Milwaukee and they had studen discounts and sold Students tickets for 20 $ TWO hours prior to show, i got to see it 12 times and sat in the first few rows I feel very blessed and lucky that The theater had that offer other wise id never be able to afford to see it
I would sell mine a million times! I keep begging my theater teacher to do it! But its good we don't, Phantom is one of those plays you don't want to be brought down by high schoolers! ;-)
@foofwolf22 My high school is doing it this year. The first year the rights came out and our stage has the right measurements. I am Monsieur Andre. I can't wait until rehearsals really start going. The music is very challenging. Masquerade and Don Juan Triumphant (before Point of No Return) we looked at first. They are so hard but I'm so excited.
@dudeyousuck100 Which state is this production going to be taking place? Just curious because I want to see how mesmerizing and spectacular high school students will produce it.
Our high school is one of the couple or so in the country or state (don't know the exact statistics) which have a performing center big enough to put it on.
went to see this in KC, got tickets as a present and thought it would be boring, after hearing the organ and seeing the chandelier rise over my seat, i fell in love with this play definately going again
this part rocks. i went to see it with my class, and we thought it would be boring, but this part totally changed our minds. The chandelier rising had to be the coolest thing i've seen.
that flash in the beginning of the overture... made me blind cause i wasnt expecting it, (when i saw it in real life broadway) i loved this part,,, i think the best part.. nice job... ^^
I was expecting it when I saw the show, so it wasn't so much of a shock. What really got me was the flames at the end of Wandering Child - I was in the 3rd row from the stage and I could feel the heat!
omg same! for some reason they didn't do the flames when i went in Feb, i went not long ago and they did, and i was in royal circle 3rd row from the frtong and i could feel the heat too, plus scared the living daylights outa me! i love the show, and i would gladly go over and over again. Such a shame Ramin is leaving though, he's my altime fave phantom.
I like these musicals, but why can't they be like those Sweeney Todd videos on YouTube? The musical recorded not by a camera in the audience, but by unseen cameras placed all around the stages.
Agreed. I saw the movie first and liked it quite a bit (Emmy's voice is unbelievable) but then after seeing it live I fell completely and totally in love with the show. The movie's changes to the story were all terrible and lame, and the beauty of the scene where "Phantom of the Opera" is sung was completely ruined in the movie.
@Happyperson290 I saw the play in the Pantages theatre in Toronto as a kid...it was goddamn fantastic. I saw the movie too and it was neat to see it in a movie but the singing and the characters and the overall FEEL wasn't there.
For example, there wasn't a giant chandelier being lowered onto the stage from over your head which was just amazing. Actually, the players in the theatre were asked to be in the movie but they turned it down. The christine in the movie was the backup choice =/
@Happyperson290 The stage version, absolutely. The movie is entertaining, faithful for the most part and has some striking moments. However, Joel Schumacher often makes some very misguided directorial decisions. The visuals, costumes and sets, while very well done, overshadow the story and music. Casting is all over the place too: Emmy Rossum was great but Gerard Butler and Patrick Wilson were woefully miscast.
@Happyperson290 The movie, because the cast puts a hell of a lot more emotion and feeling into the acting and singing. Not to mention that auctioneer doesn't sound stoned in the movie
@Happyperson290 Let me tell you, there is NOTHING like seeing this show live. The movie had its few positive aspects, but the stage show blows it out of the water.
As great as this version is, I wish I could find a version from 2002, I think, when Ted Keegan starred in the U.S. tour. The auctioneer had a horrible, slow, foreboding way of reciting his lines. "Lot..6..6..6.., then... a chan-delier...in piec-es." Creepy, and perfect for accentuating the sinister association between the chandelier and the number.
That's fine. I was just asking because I have the show as well and when I realised that I thought maybe I hadn't downloaded all the videos. But it's not there, thanks anyway =D
it is on there, it's nice quality the sound is slightly distorted on the louder parts and a head in the way at times, nothing major. It is a full show.

Nothing beats hearing those pipes in person and watching that chandelier rise above you. . Blows you out of your seat. Grin ear to ear.
gdmiller5 2 years ago 49
this part rocks. i went to see it with my class, and we thought it would be boring, but this part totally changed our minds. The chandelier rising had to be the coolest thing i've seen.
iBroadway175 2 years ago
@gdmiller5 I love this video but it just doesn't get that feeling that you get in person...

that flash in the beginning of the overture... made me blind cause i wasnt expecting it, (when i saw it in real life broadway) i loved this part,,, i think the best part.. nice job... ^^
DeathAngel0208 2 years ago 2
I was expecting it when I saw the show, so it wasn't so much of a shock. What really got me was the flames at the end of Wandering Child - I was in the 3rd row from the stage and I could feel the heat!
TheStrangerDied 2 years ago 2
Omg. I totally know what you mean. I was 18 rows back and it melted my face off. It was intense!
wickedistheshiz 2 years ago
omg same! for some reason they didn't do the flames when i went in Feb, i went not long ago and they did, and i was in royal circle 3rd row from the frtong and i could feel the heat too, plus scared the living daylights outa me! i love the show, and i would gladly go over and over again. Such a shame Ramin is leaving though, he's my altime fave phantom.

I like these musicals, but why can't they be like those Sweeney Todd videos on YouTube? The musical recorded not by a camera in the audience, but by unseen cameras placed all around the stages.
JDueler11 2 years ago
Because Sweeney Todd was Pro-Shot for Television Broadcast, and this wasn't.

Bummer.

What is better, the play or the movie?
Happyperson290 3 years ago
stage show by a mile, it's well worth seeing. The movie was really bad by contrast the cast were poor and the story was altered
PHANTOMfan08 3 years ago 21
MithraMusic 3 years ago
hey can u make a playlist with all the parts of the musical..it would be easier to find... please and thank you...
rory1494 3 years ago
Thanks! I love the movie. I think it is beautiful. I would love to see the stage show.
Happyperson290 3 years ago
@PHANTOMfan08 I didn't think the movie was that bad, if you know the story of making it.
But, for the full effect and REAL story, you must read the book. Both are crap compared to the book. Just sayin'. :)

THE PLAY. I'm seeing it for the 11th time on Wednesday in New York. The movie is great, but it's nothing compared to the live production.
carly3592 3 years ago
I went to see it three days ago in New York. I've never seen it in anyway so I so amazed at it.
shelz94 2 years ago
@Happyperson290 I saw the play in the Pantages theatre in Toronto as a kid...it was goddamn fantastic. I saw the movie too and it was neat to see it in a movie but the singing and the characters and the overall FEEL wasn't there.
For example, there wasn't a giant chandelier being lowered onto the stage from over your head which was just amazing. Actually, the players in the theatre were asked to be in the movie but they turned it down. The christine in the movie was the backup choice =/
Aro2220 1 year ago
@Happyperson290 The stage version, absolutely. The movie is entertaining, faithful for the most part and has some striking moments. However, Joel Schumacher often makes some very misguided directorial decisions. The visuals, costumes and sets, while very well done, overshadow the story and music. Casting is all over the place too: Emmy Rossum was great but Gerard Butler and Patrick Wilson were woefully miscast.
hawrnball 1 year ago
@hawrnball No, I quite liked Patrick Wilson as Raoul.
Monkeyballmania 7 months ago
@Happyperson290 The movie, because the cast puts a hell of a lot more emotion and feeling into the acting and singing. Not to mention that auctioneer doesn't sound stoned in the movie
TheLightningmikester 1 year ago
@Happyperson290 Let me tell you, there is NOTHING like seeing this show live. The movie had its few positive aspects, but the stage show blows it out of the water.

Is this a full show recording? Is all of it excellent quality?
9ALLEN9 3 years ago
It is full show and this clip is from a compressed (rather crap) copy of the recording. The DVD version is far superior in terms of quality.
PHANTOMfan08 3 years ago
@PHANTOMfan08 do you have the dvd? or maybe can you sent me this recording...? I don't mind the quality...

Man, I really love the overture!!!
:D
I hope that the show soon comes to México

That's fine. I was just asking because I have the show as well and when I realised that I thought maybe I hadn't downloaded all the videos. But it's not there, thanks anyway =D

UrsulaRulez 3 years ago 2
99% sure it is, i'll check
PHANTOMfan08 3 years ago
Oooh, if it is could we possibly trade for it?
UrsulaRulez 3 years ago
it is on there, it's nice quality the sound is slightly distorted on the louder parts and a head in the way at times, nothing major. It is a full show.
PHANTOMfan08 3 years ago
I heard the Australian version is pretty scary, because the speed is very fast.

I love you for posting this. I got to see it in London back in 2006 and am dying to go again! This will help hold me over until then. Thank you!
