Very nice build, congratulations! Was it hard to bend the thin MDF with the bands/ropes without getting indentations from where the straps were?
I noticed you didnt use the pre-sliced MDF that many uses but which often leaves a visible pattern of flat surface, break, flat surface, break... Yours is much nicer as it is a uniform elliptical back.
@TheHavoc09 No not at all, The ratchet straps is 50 mm wide and bends rigth over the frame. There are no marks. Yes the surface is much more uniform with this method. The secret is to gently weting of the board at the bending inside, and slowly bend the bord :-)
really they are amazing and this type of design [elliptical design} was in my mind from two years but i kept thinking how to bend that wood n i wasnt that much skilled coz i was 17yrs old and my family also didnt supported me for the finance needed for the project. your speakers are really an inspiration. now i've made a pair of speakers[my first diy speaker design] with 10" fullrange drivers n i'll be uploading a video soon. thanks for uploading your whole project video its really marvelous .
Great work, I also have diy speakers for my home theater sound set up, the finish isn't as beautiful as yours, but I'm happy with the sound: front speakers, surrounds and center channel, total power 350W approx. just for $US 250 is a deal and great sound. I have a YAMAHA RXV 359. couldn't be happier with the results..
Excellent work and I like your driver choices. I'll bet this is an outstanding sounding system.
Im in the design process of my DIY speakers as well, also using a curved rear enclosure. Your video has provided some excellent ideas for construction. Thank you very much for posting this video, and congrats on a heck of a job on those speakers.
those look like some very well made cabinets, a bit light on the bracing, but having curved/laminated walls like that I doubt there will be any flexing.
fantastic stuff, well done. I am embarking on a pair soon and am using veneered mdf with solid walnut slips around the edges. Why did you mention absolutely no screws?
Remember DIY's should take long time to keep the work funny. I't took me about 2 years from design, calculations, measuring etc. to the finished speaker.
My English is not sufficiently good to congratulate your work; I only can say a few words, perfect, incredible, you made it not only a speaker system, but a piece of art.
A final cost is hard to define as this speaker system is running as an active system, but for the units, wood and painting etc. it's about 1600 Euro. I am working on a digital 3way crossover and new amplifier for the top and mid. The 9" revelator is now feeded directly by a pair of heavy loaded LC Audio ZAPpulse 2.3SE (420 Watt RMS in 4 ohm).
Show as the pls. the xover points are?

tonyceol 2 years ago
Because there is no screws or nails in the construction, only mdf and glue. (glue, press and wait for drying...)

how did you do the polishing? I am building a speaker with similar color and glossy paint but i cant get the same results as your shiny finish.
amparnell 2 years ago
You do the painting all 10 - 12 layers and then start wet-grinding with 1200 grit paper, then you start polish and and finsh with some car wax.

why are the Scanspeak woofers 9"?
form109 2 years ago
Probably it was best to adjust the piston area to fit the desired electromechanical parameters (Thiele/Small) for this driver. Therefore 9".

Hey Kennet
Ser rigtig godt og gennemført ud. Hvor købte du egentlig det bøjelige mdf henne ?
Jeg bygger selv højttalere. Gerne med Scan Speak, Vifa, Seas.
