This system is a double edged sword.

1. I would bet it could only stop "slow" moving projectiles. Ergo no defense against anti tank high speed arrow ammunition.

2. It uses HE to deflect a incoming round. Ergo, infantry outside would have a bad day. Infantry that otherwise would probably survive if the shape charge hit the tank, ironically. At the cost of the crew of course if it penetrated.

3. Tanks should never go into urban areas without infantry support. Ergo, close support = system off.

hmm, I think he didn't actually shoot at the APC. Because all we can see in the video are close-ups. I gues it's not battleready yet. You can't see the APC even at the take from the Moderators back(6:23). Even the worst cameraman in the world would not miss the chance to film a scene with shooter and target in the picture.

Ukraine is working on a system that works to divert anti-tank missiles would be much better than this system

Curious...It looks like a one shot defense. It can stop one RPG, but if attacked again will Iron Fist have another projectile to throw or is it empty?

There doesn't seem to be any information i can find about it... my guess is that they would have reloading mechanisms and yes they would have limited ammo but that is still better that slats of armor that would be heavy and they can only take so much of a beating.

its empty. you can install several of them, or reload them. if it adds 1 extra life to the tank, which it effectively does, thats already quite good.

look at systems like AMAP ADS which have a lot more charges before needing a reload (while having shorter reaction times too)

a system using a turret to shoot at incoming threats may look cool but it's very impractical imo

I still dont understand how can they take out kinetic shells like sabots, I mean they have enough kinetic energy still after explosion to impact... but what ever, its Israel! Yay! They can do anything!

It sounds like its going to expose besides the projectile no matter what it is. This will create a force that will disrupt the path of the projectile so that it will miss the target. This idea is a replacement of the jammer. And it should work with kinetic shells. You can imagine that the shell originally flying in a straight line toward the vehicle will now fly pass the vehicle or hit the ground before reaching it.

Nothke, remember, a kinetic kill weapon is linear in its effect, it must be driven straight through the armor for it to be effective. Tip the penetrator and you degrade the depth of penetration the pentrator is capable of. If a penetrator does not intersect the armor along the longitudinal axis of its flight path it will shatter against the armor,either way the effect is the same, no vehicle penetration.

it's a big charge of explosive, it doesn't stop it, just destabilizes it so it either misses completely or impacts flat(not with the tip), but it's still better then nothing...

2 different (both israeli) companies.

IDF is about to equip the Merkava 3 & 4 with the trophy, and to equip the armored personnel carrier "namer" (very similar to the merkava) with a modded iron fist system.

I think that the USA has similar system on their tanks. Russia has a system like this on the T-90s. I personally don't think that the US would let Russia have the advantage in this area of active protection!
