Guys its not about the style, it about the practitioner. I'm a relatively decent wing chun student but I still got my ass kicked sparring with a tiger-fist master.... Q_Q
true martial arts is rarely taught to people who are not of chinese heritage. its just a "code". the hardcore shit is kept secret from the chinese public themselves.
A lot of you are missing the point of this movie. Very sad...
Bunch of American apes jumping up and down claiming Wing Chun kicks serious ass.
The point of the 2 films is for you to admire Wing Chun but at the same time respect the Chinese culture. Learn from our Confucius, learn the true nature of why Asians practice Martial Arts.
Instead we get pages of "Yeah! Ip Man is beast Ip Man can kick Chuck Norris's ass...

@AznJiggah but then again, it can also be taken that this shows a flaw in the previous Chinese culture of martial arts. Looking down upon an outsiders martial arts style instead of bringing a healthy rivalry for diversity and evolution of martial arts.
@AznJiggah People get impressed by these flashy fight scenes so they revere it as the best. Children do the same thing all the time. Do you call them apes, or do you just acknowledge the fact that they don't know any better? Don't talk down to people and quote Confucius in the same response. It seems that you don't even know enough about your own culture. Nice name by the way "jiggah".... (sarcasm in case you didn't catch that.)
@SplitSecondSnarl That was a great reply to AznJiggah, i think he is completely wrong. Martial arts should be open to everyone. It's a shame that he talks bad about westerners, not all westerners are like that. I am a student in wing chun, being hispanic; and i think what he said about westerners was a complete offense. I doubt any eastern person would say that. Eastern people are as equal as western people. Remember guys we are all the same. Shame on him. Thumbs up to splitsecondsnarl!
@AznJiggah While I agree with you that many people miss the point of Martial Arts, I'm very offended at the your generalization of Americans being apes. I am Asian American. I've studied Wing Chun for years, as well as several other Martial Arts from other parts of the world. Sammo Hung is one of my heroes. And Donnie Yen is an awesome guy. I've actually had the pleasure of meeting and talking with them. Both men are super nice. Who are you to say what people can and cannot learn?
@AznJiggah I have great respect for Chinese martial art above all Asian ones. And I appreciate Chinese culture about the same. However I think the problem is that the west tends to look at fighting merely as a means to an end. European martial arts were based solely on killing or neutralizing opposition, they had schools just like the Chinese and Japanese but were for sport and "fighting in earnest" I think the issue is just both cultures approach fighting differently.
Kung-fu-tzu didn't believe in insulting people in order to get a point across. You make some valid points in your post, but by denigrating Americans as "apes" and lumping an entire people together in one broad stroke, you undermine the strength of your argument with childish insults.
@AznJiggah you are wasting your breath, i agree with u and i dont know how old you are but there is no way u will be able to convince 15-17 year old internet trolls to change their immature mindset.
@AznJiggah I don't know, man, it's not about East or West, it's about people. I'm from Brazil, and a wing chun student. My master says about the same, he teaches the culture. The art is about knowing yourself, and defending yourself if necessary. It takes a true master to teach the respect, but half of the people commenting are People who think of Martial Arts as a way of demonstrating powers. this are just internet 15 year olds, ufc fans, and thhey're all about the ego, not the art.
@RuinedApple I agree, they kind of got the jumping around off, but the skills demonstrations and styles were truly epic :D Sammo Hung even at his age is still a royal asskicking beast.
Actually BECAUSE Ip Man was such a good teacher his student SURPASSED him (as is the goal of martial arts teachers) to the point of Bruce Lee transcending and leaving behind traditional martial arts, turning it into fight science, however his mysterious death had cut short his progress, but him at a modern legend status. Ip Man says in this movie that he is only good because he is at the peak of his age, he will be surpassed by his students when their time comes.
