I am a mandolin musician in a tradtitional bluegrass band in NW Illinois. I believe that bands who take a progressive stance within or inbetween any genre, for example The Avett Brothers or even Chris Thile-Punch Brothers only help the music progress and I much appreciate them. Like I said, I am a huge traditional bluegrass fan and musician and I think such close minded comments are uneducated and wonder why you appear to be so angry that The Avett Brothers would play at this show.
Well sir, I was born and breed in Eastern Kentucky as well, Rockcastle Co. and to my knowledge, the Avett Brothers may be one of the greatest bands ever.

As a born and bred native of Eastern Kentucky, I fail to see what any part of this video, has the slightest fucking thing to do with "Appalachian roots". The people in the crowd are the same people that call bands like Old Crow Medicine Show bluegrass music. If any of these indy-hipster acts came to a real mountain jamboree or a real bluegrass festival they'd get laughed off the stage.
And if you came out of the mountain to where I'm from, a.k.a. civilization , at least the people here would have the courtesy to give you the respect you deserved.
Where people come from doesn't matter. Just because the Avett Brothers weren't born in "eastern kentucky" doesn't mean it's not the bluegrass style. It's not their fault if their music appeals to other people than just backwoods bluegrass fans. They appeal to a lot of people.
