  • Elena Mosuc's High notes are so clear and brilliant.. I just love her <3

  • Qué entrete la puesta!...

Sin comentarios sobre ella... realmente espectacular, sin palabras...

  • What on earth is this set? Where did this take place?

It looks like its a rehearsal studio, or like they forgot to load on the set.

  • not of the first rank--at least in historical terms. Ad then there's the set and whatever they've done to the story... based on these clips I'm glad I didn't waste my money.

  • Please! These days you would be VERY lucky to have Mosuc singing Elvira... very few current singers do the music justice the way Mosuc can. You can't always live in the past, sometimes you have to enjoy singers for who they are rather than who you compare them to.

  • You may very well be right--recordings of any kind do not do justice to a "theater voice"!! I thought Netrebko's voice more polished and responsive in this music from the Met, tho, and we even had a few doubts about her! It's not based on the past but on observing the technique, quality of each note, and the ease with which the artist accomplishes his/her part. I will listen to more of Mosuc and see if my thoughts are confirmed...thanx for the response!!

  • No, you're right... This is enhanced and amplified, like so many singers are today.

  • @aaronsande Amplified? I am afraid, you are wrong. I have heard Mosuc several times live, in Puritani too, she has a strong, big, loud yet agile voice, with super high register and technique. She is a real dramatic coloratura. She does not need amplification.

  • @tehen162 I am not wrong. It is you who have been fooled. But don't stress about it. You are not alone.

Many major opera houses today amplify ALL of their singers. In LIVE performances, yes. Do a little more research, talk to those in the know, and listen more carefully.

  • @aaronsande I don't stress about it, because I know how she sounds without amplification. As I wrote I have heard Mosuc several times at houses (not only at major opera houses) where I KNOW for sure she was not amplified. You thought of yourself as of somebody in the know I should talk to? Sorry, I doubt it.

  • @tehen162 Do you think that Jonas Kaufman also sings without amplification? Juan Diego Florez?

If you can't hear that every voice here is amplified to the same volume, don't talk to me about what I don't know.

You're acting like an angry fanboy who doesn't care about the truth. Is that who you are?

  • @aaronsande I have not talked about what you know or don't know, how could I? I was talking about Mosuc who I know very well. I am neither a boy nor a fan, but don't like hostility and untruth. And yes, I think Juan Diego Florez sings without amplification, at least in Wien, Pesaro, Milano, Zürich and Berlin where I heard him was no amplification.

  • @tehen162 You said that you doubted I am "in the know". If that is not discussing what I know and do not know, you are mincing words. I will back off from the hostility if you will. I consider assaults upon my intellect to be hostility =D

Florez couldn't fill a teacup without a microphone. He was always amplified, I can guarantee it. Mikes in the wigs, the clothing. You really don't know that they do this?

Look at the video I sent you. I can show you Florez and Kaufmann too if you want.

  • @eelco67 How would you be certain? Are you also a big opera star, or were you a bit part/chorus?

  • @eelco67 Thank you for an intellectual, informed discussion on this topic... you did not become insulting, feeling that I was insulting your favorite singers.

I see that you are aware of amplification, and enhancement. I am willing to take you at your word in this case, especially since as a young professional I realize I need to stop having these arguments!

Live recordings, however, such as this one are still frequently enhanced. So what we hear in this video is not the house sound.

  • @tehen162 Because you can HEAR the amplification here. Clearly. Of all the voices. And I guarantee you that Mosuc was amplified live those other times she sounded big to you as well.

If you truly care to have a discussion, send me a message =D

  • @aaronsande this is not amplified, I know this for a fact

  • @coloraturafan You said the same thing when I asked about Matteuzzi singing in L'italiana in Algieri and you were wrong/misinformed there as well. Matteuzzi sounds so quiet, unamplified, that many have said it is like he is singing in falsetto.

So, please pardon me if I don't trust you here either. I know what a problem amplification is, and I judge that you do not agree or know how prevalent it is. Most do not, it really is understandable. But ask around some.

  • @aaronsande well as you seem to know it all... I guess I won't explain

  • @coloraturafan Sorry to come off that way. When I know I know, when I don't I admit it. Go ahead, please tell me how you KNOW this isn't amplified. I am, truly, interested in what you will say about that.

  • @aaronsande no reason to waste my time you seem convinsed

  • @coloraturafan All right. My loss perhaps. You do know that amplification is rampant in opera today though, right? If not please say so and allow me to share just one video with you. =D
