You can install Mac OSX on allot of netbooks with the hackintosh stick available on ebay, if you search ebay for Hackintosh its one of the top items with the picture of a snow leopard, i did it on my dell mini 10v and its brilliant!
@YouBen711 NO. This was a year ago and things are different now. I would go to my original posting on my blog (see link in the description) and look up the sites the I refer to there. This process is probably a little different PLUS you can't buy the dell mini 9 any longer. Now you'll be getting a 10 I think. I think it's doable with 10.6.2 but see what they say there.
@jerryx2000 Actually, the netbook is in a closet somewhere now. First it was my wife's. Then for a while it was just my 5 yr old's computer to do nick jr flash games. After a while it got slow and was too frustrating to use. I could probably just reinstall it but haven't.
@jerryx2000 Continued.. So the iPad by far. The only thing is those flash games that my daughter can't do on it, which every now and then I let her do that on a real laptop. I do like her to use the keyboard some and not just all touch screens. Kids today expect that every screen is a touch screen. Lack of flash video on the iPad doesn't bother me either. Haven't really missed it with all the dedicated apps.
Followed your instructions in the video and managed to run Leopard successfully. However after I shut down my Dell Mini 9 , it directs me to a black screen which states, PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable... Operating system not found... how do I go about.... Please , your my only hope
NO NO NO... you need to STOP and forget about this. There is nothing pirated - it was written by a community. OSX is a legal store bought copy and the iso is a boot disc w/a hack + some kext files to make the whole thing work. And it does - even photobooth - really well. Like well enough that apple could sell something similar - although they would design a better netbook and therefore it would cost 800 bucks.
Seriously tyjar6... forget about this and buy a crunchpad when it comes out.
i think it is so funny that it comes with cd's cause not alot of people have usb cd drives, optical media is going out the door, it might as well come with a read only flash drive of software.
i also dont get the whole... DL the .img burn with toast? what is that for? and if i cant instal leopard without it how do i get DL the .img burn with toast? thanks
u can just private mesage me all my questions thanks..
you also gotta read the instructions. The video is an overview and a proof of concept. The directions are online.. search for them or read my description for a url. i can't post url's here. DL = download. Burn an image file to a CD with a different computer.
If you're confused don't try it. The wacky question about internet settings is a good indication that you shouldn't do it, cause i'm not sure what you're talking about.
ive got a wacky question. if i instal osx will it mean its like a mac that i need to change the settings into my linksis router? mi dad has a windows work computer and if i change the settings to just work with my laptop he couldnt use the work computer. So do i have to calibrate the settings or will it be like a regular windows running (internet working) computer?
I have another friend who is dual booting. I recommend using the newer methods of installing leopard which can be found on the mydellmini9 website. I think it's called the type 11 method. It's a forum. Go there, read up, and post some questions there. It can be done but I'm not sure if you partition the SSD or use like a USB stick for one of the OS's. You'll want to read up there on all the tricks.
continued... For the record I've never done much on mine except itunes, safari, and netbook type things. My other buddy who did some iphone dev on it eventually bought a new macbook to do it on because of the power and size limitations of the dell 9. So know what you're getting in to and that it's a novelty, not the ideal way to dev iphone apps.
Being an iphone dev myself, I need the larger screen PLUS spaces to get everything in. You'll have references open plus code and more.
yes it should work fine. In fact the guy who taught me how to do it was doing iphone dev on it when i met him. The only issues are hard drive space, speed, and screen real-estate. HD space is easy and speed is not really that big of a deal on iphone coding. Screen space might get on your nerves. Of course keep in mind the funky keyboard and the misplaced quote key. Other than that you're golden.
I'm assuming that you have another mac around. DL = download. the .img or .iso is a disc image - linked to on my website. Download it and burn it to a CD with toast or some other burning software.
That CD I stick in at the beginning, which says Mini9-132-EZ is a disc that you download. Google it or look on a site called mydellmini. you can also look on my site at tomorrowland and search for dell or hacintosh. I cant put actual links or the dot coms in here or it will reject my comment.
God damnit. i remember when i received my Inspiron 1525, as soon as it came in the box the new Dell Mini 9 was out. Worse of all is the fact that mac osx wont even run on it even though Inspiron 1525 is more powerful.
hi man,, first of all gr8 vid u made here..nice job. i got a question 4 u, i own a mac mini, and it came with the mac os x cd. can i use that for the dell mini 9 install?
probably won't work. Those install discs only have the parts necessary to make it work on that specific machine. It probably has to be a retail boxed version.
if you go to the link in the "more info" area you will find more information.. like this one:
After installing everything I had no audio. What I did to fix it was to use the mini9 prefs pane to reinstall audio drivers.. then I also reinstalled them via the ALC268 installer, then I rebooted. Audio works fine now.

@badweasel yeh but I live in Europe. So it will be here later. And I don't think it will cost only 499$.

I can't help you pirate os x. Use a boxed version of leopard and you'll be able to do software updates.
All the directions are either on my site or are on sites that I link to there.
As for the dude with the external DVD drive problem. I used the one from my xbox. Beg and borrow one. You only need it for a day.
