@wultor1 People's Republic of China is in any economic position to exert financial ownership on the United States of America is simply absurd. China's economy is no better off than the USA's and is in fact going through a difficult period of shift and turmoil as they try to modernize to better fit the global economy. No one country has absolute authority over economic events, as all economies are globally connected. China couldn't buy America any more than America could buy China. Also Boeing,

The Eurocopter isn't an advancement on the AH-64d but a parallel development designed to suit the attack helicopter needs of the French republic and the European Union. There is no empirical data to suggest it outperforms the AH-64d or vice versa, as is the case in any argument suggesting superiority between the military equipment of any two NATO members as there hasn't been sufficient combat data to suggest either. And lastly the argument that The Peo
@wultor1 couldn't beat anything considering the only current models are barely capable of air combat maneuvering and in fact completely unarmed. The j-20 prototypes were developed from technology stolen from crashed us air force planes, so there is no logical reason to believe it would be in any way superior, hypothetically speaking of course as like previously mentioned it has not completed development yet. @wultor1 you sure you don't want to fact check that data one more time? You're saying that the Chengdu Jeishi 20 a plane which I must note does not exist yet is better than the f-22 a plane which, I don't think I need to remind you, does in fact exist. That argument is fundamentally flawed in that is assumes a certain amount of foresight on your part or indeed the part of whatever source you get your information from (I'm guessing wikipedia). Since the j-20 is still in development it arguably c
@lol33322100 OMG Are you one of those "F*ck yeah, USA" guys? You see Eurocopter Tiger is better than any other attack helicopter.. it super agile, faster, better operation range and newer tech.. And what comes to other aircraft, unfortunately J-20 (china) >F22 (F35 is multi purpose and F22 is better in air to air combat) > Eurofighter... See USA not the best... China took that round... And China soon owns USA because they buy USA's bonds.. And also Airbus over Boeing anyday ;)
@danrtopp nah the Mi-35 might be a better comparsion but the Apache has (better) heat seeking missiles more agile the Mi-24 Hind is a Combination of Troop transport and attack helicopter making it heavy and quit slow
@MrKasperabhay (continued from last post) it" each other. Both countries were bragging about the superiority of their equipment, not just America. Americans aren't the only people in the world that like bragging about our stuff and in my humble opinion saying Russians don't do it at all is just plain ludicrous. I have heard as many accounts by Russian citizens about how much better their equipment is than the American counterpart as I have heard vice versa.
You know what's funny about that? The people bitching about Americans are... being loudmouths themselves. They don't seem to understand that. For every American running his mouth off online, there's a Canadian or a Brit or a German running his mouth off and/or bitching about the big bad USA, trying to rewrite history, downplaying our accomplishments because god forbid the US should be credited with anything, and hating on us because it's the "cool" thing to do right now.
@MrKasperabhay (continued from last post) that their own country has what is probably the best stuff of it's kind in the entire world? Americans are just more outspoken as a culture than most of the world is. That is why most people in other countries think americans are rude and stupid. We just talk a lot more and are generally louder. Back to the point, the entirety of the cold war, as in 1945-1992 was just america AND Russia as well trying to out "my shit is better at killing stuff, so suck
@MrKasperabhay (continued from last post) tion. What you see is not arrogance, but pride in the fact that we are a powerful nation that we see as helpful to other, less fortunate people. This opinion may or may not be true, much less reciprocated, but it is the reason many Americans talk about our stuff so much. But note that this is not solely an American trait. National pride is very common in developed countries, especially national superpowers. Can anyone honestly say that they don't think
@MrKasperabhay I understand the role of the Mi-24, as I have explained it my last comment. As an American I am well aware that many Americans, like many people the world over, are ignorant assholes, but as a well educated American I feel the need to defend the opinions of my less intelligent countrymen. I already agreed that America's military budget is quite overinflated, but if you look at history that same overinflated military has helped to keep the world in order many times since it's form
@aitkensE04xXxRecon (continued from previous post) 24 it presents a rather large target for enemy anti-air fire, as it is about 57% larger than most attack helicopters. The primary reason I believe the Mil Mi-28 Havoc is a better example. The Mi-28 is roughly the same size as the AH-64d and has similar armor capabilities. You are correct about the HIND's role as an infantry support helicopter and is comparable to the US army UH-60 Blackhawk or the US marine corps UH-1Y Venom in its primary role.
@aitkensE04xXxRecon no worries about that comment. I'm sorry I went all out on you about that, I know that was disproportionate retribution, it's just that i'm so used to dealing with trolls that that has become my default first response against everyone, troll or otherwise. You make a valid point, as the Mil Mi-24 HIND is used at least a majority of it's time in combat zones as an air support platform, but in my opinion it is not as effective as it could be at that role. If you look at the Mi-
@requium1 back to the point, I believe the hind is an attack helicopter. Or more of a support helicopter. The way it was often deployed was, to take out enemy group troops/provide airsupport, then deploy the soldiers into the battlefield. And since it can carry only 8 troops or a small amount of cargo, this leads me to believe that it is more of an attack copter.
@aitkensE04xXxRecon p.s. It is very closed minded, ignorant, and arrogant to assume that a vast majority of any nations population is uneducated morons. We're not all like the ones you see on tv.
@aitkensE04xXxRecon I believe you've mistaken the hind for an attack helicopter whereas it is primarily a transport helicopter, making your argument invalid. Had you compared the apache to the havoc it would have made more sense. while it still lacks the sheer firepower and armor of the apache, the havoc is at least an attack helicopter in the first place. It's not bragging, it's the simple truth. Our overinflated military budget simply allows for certain technological advantages.
@requium1 naah its attack helicopter with transport capability rather vice-versa..i have seen Americans call Russian weapons as JUNK ..don't you think its arrogance..OK agreed US is superpower but man seriously no other nation brags that much about technology and superiority over other countries.. this is just not fair..
I am from neither from US or Russia, and seriously speaking, I can't stand american's arrogance. They always think they're that good, but most of the population is so bloody stupid. I agree, ah-64ds are really good but hind-e's and ka-50's are good too. I love how Russia never brags about anything and are humble. Americans think too highly of themselves.
Это вертолет лучший тока на бумаге как М16 как Абрамс а реальный бой с равной техникой показывает что лучше и в качестве чего лучше.Американцы мне вас жаль вы ведетесь как лохи на любое высказывания СМИ и правительство ваше .
GOOD NEW FROM INDIA FOR ATTACK HELICOPTER CONTENDER FOR CONTRACT OF 22 ORDER OF ATTACK HELICOPTER. INDIA HAS CHOOSE THE AMERICAN AH-64D APACHE LONGBOW BLOCK III AS THE WINNER.
GOOGLE:(REPORT: Russia Loses Indian Attack Chopper Deal ). HA! THE MI-28 FUCKING SUX!
Hahaha.... This is bullshit! Russians here think their shit (that's right I wrote 'shit') is fit to be no. 1 !?
Even back then in the cold war - past the 70s at least - America already left the Soviets way behind in technology. Not mentioning that the Russian war industry has been literally brain dead for almost 30 years. Exactly how they want to catch up on that gap I don't know...
@Russia1117 Just becasue something is old doesn't mean its worse andthe US never said that. The Block II AH-64 Apache is the newest first seeing flight in 2003 (there has been many versions of it since 1975). The Army will be releasing the Block lll in 2012.
Both these choppers are designed for anti armor, covering force and escort, so their both pretty well equipped. In a chopper vs chopper dog fight the Apache would win. The Apache is a two seater and has separate defensive capabilities controlled by either pilot, which are quite effective in air to air combat. The KA -52 is only a single seater, I would imagine this is somewhat of an underhand if it came to a dog fight.
@Russia1117 The KA 52's missle weaponry capabilities also have a range of up to 8Km, about the same as the Apache. The Apache has a greater force of machine weapon explosive rounds, about 1,200 per weapon system, more adapted to cover fire and attack ground units, this could easily be used on enemy choppers.
@Russia1117 In the time it takes a KA 52 to expend 480 total misses on board, with no system designed to guide air to air contact, the Apache is already well in to spraying his machine fired explosive rounds right in to your fuselage. The KA 52 has semi-active laser guided tactical air-to-ground missiles, still no use against another chopper. APU-6 9K121 Vikhr anti-tank missile racks, still no good.
@Russia1117 The only thing the KA 52 has for air to air combat are the Vympel R-73 (NATO: AA-11 Archer) air-to-air missiles - which are no match for explosive rapid machine fire weapons 1× 30 × 113 mm (1.18 × 4.45 in) M230 Chain Gun with 1,200 rounds with
Hardpoints: Up to 6 pylon stations on stub wing, by a crew of 2 pilots vs one, while the KA 52 has only 4 Hardpoints.
@Russia1117 The Apache has AIM-9 Sidewinder max range 18 Km, which beat the hell out of the Ka 52's R73 range ...5 kilometers. The Apcha also has e AGM-122 Sidearm (broad-band passive radar seeker), speed 2.3 MACH and range 16.5 km. Again, the KA 52 is out ranged completely. not to mention, flares, night vision, about 14 hellfire missiles, and about 75 other missiles, 1200 30m rounds, abiltity to take control of drone in air, two engines, multiple air injects for harder missile lock ons
@Russia1117 also, capacity of 2, we have over 1500 apaches compared to less than 300 ka 52s, differant variants (escort, anit armor, covering force),rate of climb at 2500 ft/min comparded to an imbarassing 10/m a min, can carry multiple differant missiles, high of 22,00ft compared to 18,000,range of 1200 miles compared to 700,naval versions, missile tracking systems to see where missiles are compared to them,13 countries use it including the US...so just because u like it doesnt mean its better
@Slash396 it's not about how many weapons you got, ka-50-52 was seen in action in chechnya, and ka-50 wasn't hit, you apache got hit many times in iraq. type in youtube ka-50-52 vs apache, and you will see who is the best
@Russia1117 The problem with you is your focusing on everything other people say and your not going by facts. The Apache has been in action for 29 years and only a few have been destroyed. Most of those are pilot error, not getting shot down. We have thousands in service the Ka 52's used in Chechnya were a small group probably no more than 5. The number destroyed doesn't have anything to do with how good it is and yes, weapons do matter becasue without them they wouldn't be an attack heli right?
@Slash396 i know lot's about weapon's, and apache is not in action 29 years you fucking morron, it's maximum 6-7 years in action but not 29. i watched on american channel that someone said that apache got destroyed many times. you fucking american lier
@Russia1117 the AH-64D has been around 6-7 years the Apaches first flight was is 1973 and didn't get accepted into the military until 1983. Maybe the old versions of the Apache have gotten shot down but the AH-64D is EXTREAMELY hard to shoot down and either very few have gotten shot down or none. Russians aren't know for their technology especialy in aniation. But lets put it this way, they are both very good helicopters.
@Russia1117 You should read more carefully, i never said it CAN"T be DESTROYED. I said it is VERY HARD to SHOOT DOWN. If someone does hit the Apache with an RPG than most likely it still won't go down depending on where you hit it.
@Russia1117 sorry i personally think that most ameircans are arrogant and obnoxious but the KA-52 is Not better then the Apache and would you really think they would say it is? i mean its the USA they never admit ANYTHING is better then them lol
@SpetsnazVympel I agree that the Mi-28 might be more "superior" but it has a very small service length (since it's very new), little to no combat experience and not enough recorded fear factors due to it's lack of service length and combat experience.
Maybe if the Russians use the Mi-28 a bit more in Chechnya and sell it to Venezuela so they can use it a against Colombia it would get some combat experience and some fear factor.
What about the Russian mil mi 28? as far as I know the mil mi 28 is a replacement for the mil mi 24 hind and has been confirmed by many to be greater than the apache, I know it's kind of new but it's been in service for quite a while and probably should've been on this list
@Jjb44j no sir, that is incorrect. the apache is either equal or better than the Mi-28 in EVERY category accept for rate of climb...which it looses by less than 1m/s XD. despite the fact that the Mi-28 came out nearly a decade later.
@ViciousCritique If you watch Chinese version of TOP-10 helicopters they will have all 10 Chinese attack helicopters in that list... even if they don't have so many :)))
I am sure they will think that US helicopters are inferior piece of shit :)))
@BitnikGr Unfortunately for u , russians helicopters are the real piece of shit proven to be inferior to their US counter-parts , but dont give up russian in the next decade maybe u will finally suprise .
Funny u really believe u could stand a chance against US , thats priceless.
i heard that just the sight of an apache ah 64 attack helicoptor is enough to wet any terrorists pants .. it also said that its the last thing ull ever see in a dark warfield sky if u met one . coz no one has ever survived an apache attack ....lethal and deadly .its the ultimate manhunter .terrorists be afraid . be very afraid
lol, do they have anyidea how many of these were shot down in iraq or lebanon in 2006, after some of those aircrafts were shot down combat against lebanese, the israilis stopedd sending apaches so the shoulder weapons had the fear factor in this case, besides once the mi-28 gets its new electric suit it will be much better than apache
@ahmadov fuck no. the MI-24 is an ugly piece of shit that chops off its own tail whenever it turn too tightly, it cant survive a SAM neither can the AH-64 but the apache doesnt chop itself up and kill its own men. Now, go fuck off and watch the MI-24 video
@gta4ishardcore u are so dumb u don't know the difference between mi-28 and mi-24.man the names are different even if u don't know the heli.looooool.illetrite british boy. now go fuck off and learn to read.
...... SAM bait? I dont care about flares and shit, shoulder launchers can reload..... i mean, this is just like every other helicopter EVER it just has more armor and guns bolted to it.... but it CAN NOT out manuver a SAM i dont care who flys it, it could be Chuck fucking Norris flying it and it would still blow up....
@Prometheus19853 It can, actually. If the SAM is fired too close, it may actually miss the helicopter because ti has no time to correct. Chaff and flares can be fired by the hundreds, and a chopper will turn any firing signature into instant death. Ask the Muhajadeen.
@Prometheus19853 the apache doesnt give off much of a heat signature its flares do WAY more than the apache and an apache would never get close enough for a man to see it and the thermal imaging would just glide over it and not even see its heat signature from the standoff distances the apache is at
@kirbyroxy no, we are using them for the us army. i don't even think afganis know how to pilot anything more advanced then a donkey. i honestly doubt that after seen them "TRY" to work those taxis
The KA-50/2 outperforms the AH-64 in about 99% of aspects. Mainly because the Russians built their stuff after the Cold War, the Americans just keep updating all of their old stuff. I also read that Bell is planning to put AH-64 engines on their AH-1. Which would make it outperform the Apache, and have a lower price tag.
@nathaniel1995able the apache doesnt need to be the fastest or the most agile, it however is a deadly attack chopper with a proven combat record, unlike the ka 50 and the mi28 havoc, the apache has a missile defense system, unlike russian choppers that just have flares, the apache was designed to take hits from 23mm zpu rounds and keep flying, russian choppers armored to take hits from 50cal rounds, and the ka50 is a cold war design and did i say unproven
The KA-50 has been proven against Chechen rebels. Apache's have been shot down by guided and unguided missiles and anti-aircraft guns. The KA-50 is designed to take 23mm hits anywhere also. In fact, in 2003 an AH-64D was shot down by a farmer with a 8mm Kar 98k rifle. The chopper went down intact, but the crew was captured and the U.S. was forced to destroy the chopper. And, the KA-50 was designed in 1980, so Cold War design my ass.
@nathaniel1995able proven, hah never destroyed anything of value, the chechens dont have shity, and the apache has seen combat since the 80s and will have suffered losses, russian choppers are designed to survive hits from 12.7mm rounds nothing bigger look it up, apaches have been hit, but have survived those hits from those weapons and got their crews home safely, 1980 was still the coldwar, which means its a product of the cold war, that old and they only have about 15, tells you something
Respond to this video... really the ka 50 is better cause some farmer got a lucky hit, well i guess the mi24 hind sucks, since afgans shot them down with lee enfields, how many countries use the ka50, or better yet if it is so great, why havent the russians ordered hundreds of them. hmmmm answer that
@packr72 For same reason you can't buy a Ferrari. You can't buy something if you don't have money for it. But guess what... In 2010 they have already ordered the first batch of 50 Ka-52 and since 2011 they started building Ka-52K for Pacific Fleet. 16 Ka-52K will be based on 2 French "Mistrals".
@BitnikGr your a long way away from even having a quarter of the numbers of apaches and this thing needs a real combat record against more than just rebels with rpgs
@BitnikGr Oh yea ! u need to check people channels ? Face it u inbreed russian from siberia your military is piece of shit as you . But ...dont give up preaching your bullshit about russian stuff , maybe some slavic loser of your own kind will start to believe you .
Maybe one day u will grow up from that mighty russia fairy tale.
@ViciousCritique shut a fuck up trolling bitch. You can't even answer a simple question where one heli is better than another and how much difference is in their performance in that field.
In 2010 my country, Greece, received new batch of Apache Longbows. During presentation to high ranked officers, auto-rotating failed while executing a very difficult maneuver and 2 among the best pilots have crashed and died... because Apache DOESN'T HAVE AN EJECTION COCKPIT!!!
@BitnikGr And ? Mi-28 is crashing on regural basis , thats why russian military prefers Ka-50/52 . Mi-28 is piece of shit .....
Longbows u received were probably some outdated overused versions , and before they send them to your country, they polished them and make them look like a now.
@ViciousCritique Actually you cannot really make a statement about the crashes of the early Mi-28's being a reflection on what they are now. The V-22 had a very rough time at first. And if you look at the start of the Lockheed Electra, it had a terrible reputation at first, but was then developed into the highly successful P-3 Orion.
@ViciousCritique "Regular basis" - without numbers are just bashing words! Numbers! Provide numbers! 1 per 20 year is also a "regular basis". Then we compare it with anything... and we have to compare only crashes because of mechanical failure and not because of pilot errors aka "human factor".
-
Longbows Greece bought are all brand new, right out of the factory! Greece hasn't even one second-hand Apache.
@BitnikGr Oh and I forgot, they also have 150 OH-58As, 210 OH-58Cs, and 368 OH-58Ds. But I cannot find any accurate numbers on Russian helicopter totals.
@franknbeans4761 I don't remember the exact numbers. But I remember than last time when I counted them, they were about 200 more than Apaches in US Army. So, figure for all types of attack helicopters in Russian Army must be around 900. About only 100 are Mi-28s and Ka-50/52. The backbone of course is a Mi-24.
@BitnikGr Yes they do. They are deployed in Full Spectrum Combat Aviation Brigades. The OH-58D is what is mainly in service. I think the previous models are retired or maybe in limited National Guard units.
I heard that there are 300 to 350 and maybe even 400 Mi-24's in service with Russia right now and that they are being replaced by the Mi-28 Havoc. I heard the USSR had 1,400 Mi-24's, but obviously the number in service would be much smaller now.
How many attack helicopters does US Army need by its doctrine? Is there a minimum required numbers as with fighters in USAF?
-
Yes, USSR had so many. And as much so many they have sold for export. Right now they have around 650-700 Hinds. Mostly because many Hinds remained in other 14 Republics after fall of the former USSR. Right now around 300 are still in service in 6 of those 14 countries (Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan).
@BitnikGr For the US Army? I am not fully sure. At least 500. But the National Guard uses some too. And do not forget that the Apache is more capable at AT duties than the Hind. And do not forget the AH-1Z.
Do you have any references on the amount used by Russia? All I can find is that they use 350. I know they probably have quite a few in storage but nothing more.
@franknbeans4761 I never doubt that Apache is better than Hind as attack helicopter in EVERY aspect.
Just Mi-24 is a hybrid and can carry troops or evacuate pilots of downed helicopters. But that doesn't matter... It is not an aspect of an attack helicopter.
-
In English I have only this
The International Institute For Strategic Studies IISS The Military Balance 2010.
The Hind seems more like a close air support helicopter rather than an anti-tank helicopter. It seems like it would be best using it's rockets and cannon fire to support the squad of infantry it carries. However, I know that carrying the infantry significantly reduces the agility of the Mi-24, so they would really have to choose to carry either rockets or men.
@franknbeans4761 I hadn't time to answer to you yesterday. I wasn't at home. We went for a long weekend in Olympus region and yesterday we visited a concert in a medieval Venetian Castle.
-
Soviets had build many successful civilian helicopters after 50s. Idea of Mi-24 came to them after analysis of successful use of helicopter in Vietnam. Instead of building different type of attack helicopter, they preferred to build a single multi-role helicopter. It is true that they were working in pairs...
@franknbeans4761 ... One Mi-24 was carrying troops, the other one was providing cover. Actually Mi-24 was never used in right away fire support of troops they have just landed. They were either landing troops, either called for fire support, or called for resupplies and evacuation.
Use of same type helicopter for both roles (transport and attack) was good enough in 70s. One type of heli = better maintenance, logistics, training etc... But attack helicopters of next 2 decades had features...
@franknbeans4761 ... which can't be achieved with so bulked size of helicopter. That's why they started design of Mi-28 and Ka-50 as dedicated attack helicopter. I think Mi-24 even shouldn't be in this list at all, since it is a hybrid and not a pure attack helicopter.
@BitnikGr Sounds like fun, I have always wanted to go to Greece.
The Mi-24 seems like a good helicopter (at least in principle) for rugged multi-role air assault missions. It could use a better cargo bay and increased engine performance to make it more suitable but it is still a good concept. It seems like there should just be a separation of vehicles, transport helicopters and attack. That way, one aircraft can perform the hell out of their own job, and not be alright at everything instead.
@franknbeans4761 Check your PM. Russian MoD ordered 100 Ka-60, which is basically a replacement of Mi-24 and it is also a multirole, cargo and attack helicopter.
@BitnikGr the apaches have been around since the 80s, right now most of russia's attack choppers are m1 24s around 360. and neither the mi28 or ka50 have major experience, fighting against rebels without and airforce and sams, or even aa guns, apache pilots fly to low to use ejection seats anyway, combat performance is what matters and these new choppers lack it big time
@packr72 Correction... ejection cabin and not ejection seats.
So, basically what you say is that any system which wasn't in real war sucks and any country which produces weapon systems MUST start wars all over the world just to make their products more attractive to possible customers by putting a label "combat proven"?
You want to tell us that AH-1 Cobra is much better than modern Rooivalk, Eurocopter, Mi-28, Ka-52, because it saw extensive use in Vietnam war. Is that correct?
@BitnikGr the ah 1 was designed in the 60s so that variant isnt comprable to today's standards, but the ah1z viper is not a bad chopper built on a proven airframe.and yes combat effectiveness counts for something and the fact that both israel and gb, countries with respectable armed forces use the apache, plus saudia arabia, kuwait, japan, netherlands, and greece use it
Everyone is saying the Mi 28 Havoc and KA 50 Blackshark is better the AH 64 Apache. If they're both so good then why didn't they make the top 10 helicopters?
@Sgtkillbot because it was made by american documentary makers like duh they will say ah 64 is better, because they know nothing about ka 50 and mi 28 havoc
@mrvishal1000 Im guessing that these idiot documentary narrarators think that our American gear are better than everyone elses. Im American and Im proud of it but i think that i would be nice to put the KA-50 and MI 28 Havoc in the Top 10 helicopters. (They're both Russian right?)
@mrvishal1000 The AH-64 is more technologicaly advaced and updated than their Russian rivals, most russian helicopters in use of the Russian military are FROM the Cold War, not DESINGED. The AH-64 is updated and replaced with newer models. And it said fire and forget missles are standard in this helicopter, along with an eypiece HUD system.
@mrvishal1000 yeah america is real afraid of the 48 m1 28s and neither of those helis have major combat experience, im not saying they are inferior, but ya gotta walk the walk and talk the talk
And the Ka-50 ??? It's a top 10 americans helicopters ? No ! So look outsider your country please ! And don't forget the Tiger next time too ! ( I'm french ;)
a documentary made by americans....its not so difficult know wich helicopter consider they to be in number one..(yes..a lot objetive} what about the mi 28 havoc or ka 52 hokum
@killkani I don't think the MI28 has the up to date tech the apache's do. I honestly like russian helicopter disigns more than american ones though. My favorite is the Mi24
Dude this helicopter were half way plane and halfway chopper cause the flight stunts done in the plane can be done too in this chopper

That argument is fundamentally flawed in that is assumes a certain amount of foresight on your part or indeed the part of whatever source you get your information from (I'm guessing wikipedia).

@requium1

Can anyone honestly say that they don't think
requium1 2 months ago

You are correct about the HIND's role as an infantry support helicopter and is comparable to the US army UH-60 Blackhawk or the US marine corps UH-1Y Venom in its primary role.
requium1 2 months ago
@aitkensE04xXxRecon no worries about that comment. I'm sorry I went all out on you about that, I know that was disproportionate retribution, it's just that i'm so used to dealing with trolls that that has become my default first response against everyone, troll or otherwise. You make a valid point, as the Mil Mi-24 HIND is used at least a majority of it's time in combat zones as an air support platform, but in my opinion it is not as effective as it could be at that role. If you look at the Mi-
requium1 2 months ago
@requium1 back to the point, I believe the hind is an attack helicopter. Or more of a support helicopter. The way it was often deployed was, to take out enemy group troops/provide airsupport, then deploy the soldiers into the battlefield. And since it can carry only 8 troops or a small amount of cargo, this leads me to believe that it is more of an attack copter.
aitkensE04xXxRecon 2 months ago
@requium1 sorry for my rash comment, it was made out of anger due to the chauvinistic comments made by the morons below my initial comment.
aitkensE04xXxRecon 2 months ago
@aitkensE04xXxRecon p.s. It is very closed minded, ignorant, and arrogant to assume that a vast majority of any nations population is uneducated morons. We're not all like the ones you see on tv.
requium1 2 months ago
@aitkensE04xXxRecon I believe you've mistaken the hind for an attack helicopter whereas it is primarily a transport helicopter, making your argument invalid. Had you compared the apache to the havoc it would have made more sense. while it still lacks the sheer firepower and armor of the apache, the havoc is at least an attack helicopter in the first place. It's not bragging, it's the simple truth. Our overinflated military budget simply allows for certain technological advantages.
requium1 2 months ago
@requium1 naah its attack helicopter with transport capability rather vice-versa..i have seen Americans call Russian weapons as JUNK ..don't you think its arrogance..OK agreed US is superpower but man seriously no other nation brags that much about technology and superiority over other countries.. this is just not fair..

Russia1117 3 months ago
@Russia1117 Just becasue something is old doesn't mean its worse andthe US never said that. The Block II AH-64 Apache is the newest first seeing flight in 2003 (there has been many versions of it since 1975). The Army will be releasing the Block lll in 2012.
Slash396 3 months ago
Both these choppers are designed for anti armor, covering force and escort, so their both pretty well equipped. In a chopper vs chopper dog fight the Apache would win. The Apache is a two seater and has separate defensive capabilities controlled by either pilot, which are quite effective in air to air combat. The KA -52 is only a single seater, I would imagine this is somewhat of an underhand if it came to a dog fight.
Slash396 3 months ago
@Russia1117 The KA 52's missle weaponry capabilities also have a range of up to 8Km, about the same as the Apache. The Apache has a greater force of machine weapon explosive rounds, about 1,200 per weapon system, more adapted to cover fire and attack ground units, this could easily be used on enemy choppers.
Slash396 3 months ago
@Russia1117 In the time it takes a KA 52 to expend 480 total misses on board, with no system designed to guide air to air contact, the Apache is already well in to spraying his machine fired explosive rounds right in to your fuselage. The KA 52 has semi-active laser guided tactical air-to-ground missiles, still no use against another chopper. APU-6 9K121 Vikhr anti-tank missile racks, still no good.
Slash396 3 months ago
@Russia1117 The only thing the KA 52 has for air to air combat are the Vympel R-73 (NATO: AA-11 Archer) air-to-air missiles - which are no match for explosive rapid machine fire weapons 1× 30 × 113 mm (1.18 × 4.45 in) M230 Chain Gun with 1,200 rounds with
Hardpoints: Up to 6 pylon stations on stub wing, by a crew of 2 pilots vs one, while the KA 52 has only 4 Hardpoints.
Slash396 3 months ago
Slash396 3 months ago
@Russia1117 also, capacity of 2, we have over 1500 apaches compared to less than 300 ka 52s, differant variants (escort, anit armor, covering force),rate of climb at 2500 ft/min comparded to an imbarassing 10/m a min, can carry multiple differant missiles, high of 22,00ft compared to 18,000,range of 1200 miles compared to 700,naval versions, missile tracking systems to see where missiles are compared to them,13 countries use it including the US...so just because u like it doesnt mean its better
Slash396 3 months ago
@Slash396 it's not about how many weapons you got, ka-50-52 was seen in action in chechnya, and ka-50 wasn't hit, you apache got hit many times in iraq. type in youtube ka-50-52 vs apache, and you will see who is the best
Russia1117 3 months ago
@Russia1117 The problem with you is your focusing on everything other people say and your not going by facts. The Apache has been in action for 29 years and only a few have been destroyed. Most of those are pilot error, not getting shot down. We have thousands in service the Ka 52's used in Chechnya were a small group probably no more than 5. The number destroyed doesn't have anything to do with how good it is and yes, weapons do matter becasue without them they wouldn't be an attack heli right?
Slash396 3 months ago
@Slash396 i know lot's about weapon's, and apache is not in action 29 years you fucking morron, it's maximum 6-7 years in action but not 29. i watched on american channel that someone said that apache got destroyed many times. you fucking american lier
Russia1117 3 months ago
@Russia1117 the AH-64D has been around 6-7 years the Apaches first flight was is 1973 and didn't get accepted into the military until 1983. Maybe the old versions of the Apache have gotten shot down but the AH-64D is EXTREAMELY hard to shoot down and either very few have gotten shot down or none. Russians aren't know for their technology especialy in aniation. But lets put it this way, they are both very good helicopters.

The KA-50/2 outperforms the AH-64 in about 99% of aspects. Mainly because the Russians built their stuff after the Cold War, the Americans just keep updating all of their old stuff. I also read that Bell is planning to put AH-64 engines on their AH-1. Which would make it outperform the Apache, and have a lower price tag.
nathaniel1995able 6 months ago
@nathaniel1995able the apache doesnt need to be the fastest or the most agile, it however is a deadly attack chopper with a proven combat record, unlike the ka 50 and the mi28 havoc, the apache has a missile defense system, unlike russian choppers that just have flares, the apache was designed to take hits from 23mm zpu rounds and keep flying, russian choppers armored to take hits from 50cal rounds, and the ka50 is a cold war design and did i say unproven
packr72 6 months ago
@packr72
And, the KA-50 was designed in 1980, so Cold War design my ass.
nathaniel1995able 5 months ago
@nathaniel1995able proven, hah never destroyed anything of value, the chechens dont have shity, and the apache has seen combat since the 80s and will have suffered losses, russian choppers are designed to survive hits from 12.7mm rounds nothing bigger look it up, apaches have been hit, but have survived those hits from those weapons and got their crews home safely, 1980 was still the coldwar, which means its a product of the cold war, that old and they only have about 15, tells you something
packr72 5 months ago
Respond to this video... really the ka 50 is better cause some farmer got a lucky hit, well i guess the mi24 hind sucks, since afgans shot them down with lee enfields, how many countries use the ka50, or better yet if it is so great, why havent the russians ordered hundreds of them. hmmmm answer that
packr72 5 months ago
@packr72 For same reason you can't buy a Ferrari. You can't buy something if you don't have money for it. But guess what... In 2010 they have already ordered the first batch of 50 Ka-52 and since 2011 they started building Ka-52K for Pacific Fleet. 16 Ka-52K will be based on 2 French "Mistrals".

Numbers of Mi-8 attack version, Mi-24, Mi-28, Mi-28N, Ka-50/52 are almost twice in Russian Army than Apache in US Army.

BitnikGr 5 months ago
@BitnikGr And ? Mi-28 is crashing on regural basis , thats why russian military prefers Ka-50/52 . Mi-28 is piece of shit .....
Longbows u received were probably some outdated overused versions , and before they send them to your country, they polished them and make them look like a now.
ViciousCritique 5 months ago
@ViciousCritique Actually you cannot really make a statement about the crashes of the early Mi-28's being a reflection on what they are now. The V-22 had a very rough time at first. And if you look at the start of the Lockheed Electra, it had a terrible reputation at first, but was then developed into the highly successful P-3 Orion.
franknbeans4761 5 months ago
@ViciousCritique "Regular basis" - without numbers are just bashing words! Numbers! Provide numbers! 1 per 20 year is also a "regular basis". Then we compare it with anything... and we have to compare only crashes because of mechanical failure and not because of pilot errors aka "human factor".
-
Longbows Greece bought are all brand new, right out of the factory! Greece hasn't even one second-hand Apache.

@BitnikGr How many M-8's and such are used by the Russian army (or air force whatever they were transferred under)?
I know the US has 107 AH-64As and 620 AH-64Ds. And the Marines have 189 AH-1Zs and 160 UH-1Ys.
That and some 20 lightly armored SOAR AH-6 Little Birds.
franknbeans4761 5 months ago
@BitnikGr Oh and I forgot, they also have 150 OH-58As, 210 OH-58Cs, and 368 OH-58Ds. But I cannot find any accurate numbers on Russian helicopter totals.
franknbeans4761 5 months ago
@franknbeans4761 I don't remember the exact numbers. But I remember than last time when I counted them, they were about 200 more than Apaches in US Army. So, figure for all types of attack helicopters in Russian Army must be around 900. About only 100 are Mi-28s and Ka-50/52. The backbone of course is a Mi-24.
I didn't count Air Force or Navy... just Army.
Do OH-58s serve in US Army today?

@BitnikGr Yes they do. They are deployed in Full Spectrum Combat Aviation Brigades. The OH-58D is what is mainly in service. I think the previous models are retired or maybe in limited National Guard units.
I heard that there are 300 to 350 and maybe even 400 Mi-24's in service with Russia right now and that they are being replaced by the Mi-28 Havoc. I heard the USSR had 1,400 Mi-24's, but obviously the number in service would be much smaller now.
franknbeans4761 5 months ago
@franknbeans4761 Cool then.
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@BitnikGr For the US Army? I am not fully sure. At least 500. But the National Guard uses some too. And do not forget that the Apache is more capable at AT duties than the Hind. And do not forget the AH-1Z.
Do you have any references on the amount used by Russia? All I can find is that they use 350. I know they probably have quite a few in storage but nothing more.
franknbeans4761 5 months ago
@franknbeans4761 I never doubt that Apache is better than Hind as attack helicopter in EVERY aspect.
Just Mi-24 is a hybrid and can carry troops or evacuate pilots of downed helicopters. But that doesn't matter... It is not an aspect of an attack helicopter.

In English I have only this
The International Institute For Strategic Studies IISS The Military Balance 2010.
620 Mi-24 are referred there.
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@BitnikGr but i dont think that russian helis have ejection seat either
ahmadov 5 months ago
@BitnikGr Ah I see, very interesting.

Soviets had build many successful civilian helicopters after 50s. Idea of Mi-24 came to them after analysis of successful use of helicopter in Vietnam. Instead of building different type of attack helicopter, they preferred to build a single multi-role helicopter. It is true that they were working in pairs...
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@franknbeans4761 ... One Mi-24 was carrying troops, the other one was providing cover. Actually Mi-24 was never used in right away fire support of troops they have just landed. They were either landing troops, either called for fire support, or called for resupplies and evacuation.
Use of same type helicopter for both roles (transport and attack) was good enough in 70s. One type of heli = better maintenance, logistics, training etc... But attack helicopters of next 2 decades had features...
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@franknbeans4761 ... which can't be achieved with so bulked size of helicopter. That's why they started design of Mi-28 and Ka-50 as dedicated attack helicopter. I think Mi-24 even shouldn't be in this list at all, since it is a hybrid and not a pure attack helicopter.
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@BitnikGr Sounds like fun, I have always wanted to go to Greece.
The Mi-24 seems like a good helicopter (at least in principle) for rugged multi-role air assault missions. It could use a better cargo bay and increased engine performance to make it more suitable but it is still a good concept. It seems like there should just be a separation of vehicles, transport helicopters and attack. That way, one aircraft can perform the hell out of their own job, and not be alright at everything instead.
franknbeans4761 5 months ago
@franknbeans4761 Check your PM. Russian MoD ordered 100 Ka-60, which is basically a replacement of Mi-24 and it is also a multirole, cargo and attack helicopter.
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@BitnikGr the apaches have been around since the 80s, right now most of russia's attack choppers are m1 24s around 360. and neither the mi28 or ka50 have major experience, fighting against rebels without and airforce and sams, or even aa guns, apache pilots fly to low to use ejection seats anyway, combat performance is what matters and these new choppers lack it big time
packr72 5 months ago
@packr72 Correction... ejection cabin and not ejection seats.
So, basically what you say is that any system which wasn't in real war sucks and any country which produces weapon systems MUST start wars all over the world just to make their products more attractive to possible customers by putting a label "combat proven"?
You want to tell us that AH-1 Cobra is much better than modern Rooivalk, Eurocopter, Mi-28, Ka-52, because it saw extensive use in Vietnam war. Is that correct?
BitnikGr 5 months ago
@BitnikGr the ah 1 was designed in the 60s so that variant isnt comprable to today's standards, but the ah1z viper is not a bad chopper built on a proven airframe.and yes combat effectiveness counts for something and the fact that both israel and gb, countries with respectable armed forces use the apache, plus saudia arabia, kuwait, japan, netherlands, and greece use it

Everyone is saying the Mi 28 Havoc and KA 50 Blackshark is better the AH 64 Apache. If they're both so good then why didn't they make the top 10 helicopters?
Sgtkillbot 6 months ago
@Sgtkillbot because it was made by american documentary makers like duh they will say ah 64 is better, because they know nothing about ka 50 and mi 28 havoc
mrvishal1000 6 months ago
@mrvishal1000 Im guessing that these idiot documentary narrarators think that our American gear are better than everyone elses. Im American and Im proud of it but i think that i would be nice to put the KA-50 and MI 28 Havoc in the Top 10 helicopters. (They're both Russian right?)
Sgtkillbot 6 months ago
@mrvishal1000 The AH-64 is more technologicaly advaced and updated than their Russian rivals, most russian helicopters in use of the Russian military are FROM the Cold War, not DESINGED. The AH-64 is updated and replaced with newer models. And it said fire and forget missles are standard in this helicopter, along with an eypiece HUD system.
82ndairborne100 6 months ago
@mrvishal1000 yeah america is real afraid of the 48 m1 28s and neither of those helis have major combat experience, im not saying they are inferior, but ya gotta walk the walk and talk the talk
packr72 6 months ago
@Sgtkillbot because discovery channel is influenced by the american politics

F*ck that's ugly. Well I guess it looks a lot better then the MI-28, but the Apache only proved itself by killing innocent civilians!
